Running 5/3/1 BBB 3 Months Longer

Looking For peoples opinions on running the 3 month challenge longer. I’ve looked at the regular BBB compared to the 3 month challenge and like the extra assistance excersises in the challenge. On Weindlers site for BBB he says not to add any extra assistance work but at the same time it seems like the 3 month challenge is BBB but with extra assistance work in a nutshell.

Just run it again with a new training max?

I have also run the BBB Challenge.

I think the main difference is that in the Challenge you have to keep your supplemental work at 40% for the first cycle, 50% for the second cycle, and 60% for the third cycle.

Just running BBB outside the challenge you can change the BBB percentages from week to week (ie. 40% on 5’s week, 50% on 3’s week. etc) or always work at the same range from cycle to cycle.

The slow buildup over 3 cycles means you will be able to hit 5x10 @ 60% TM on all your lifts in the third cycle. This can be tough to do cycle after cycle, and can require a slow adjustment to the volume. For example if your always running BBB at 60% of your TM you may burn out quicker than if you had varied it from week to week, or in the case of the Challenge, month to month.

You can definitely continue to run BBB if you want, but take into account that the Challenge was set up the way it is for a reason. Running BBB is NOT the same as running the BBB Challenge.

You can do whatever you think is best. As someone that knows this program fairly well, if you follow principles and understand them, things tend to work out for the best.

Did not expect an answer from the man himself. Thank you. Your podcast with Kyle Hunt is what really brought me to trying this program.

what is the % of my max should i use when doing the BBB, first lift 5-3-1 ?

Hijack someone else’s topic! That question shouldn’t even be asked though. Simple research

My issue was with the normal BBB he says not to add assistance work but with the 3 month there’s extra assistance work. Obviously I know to rerun a program
