'Rumors of My Demise are Greatly Exagerated'

Nice Millies, RL. And I sometimes miss the gym shenanigans. About the only stuff I get is a 4 year old playing with a 1# db or jumping off the bench and an 8 year old who thinks the power rack is a gymnastics set.[/quote]

I noticed something interesting. I’ve been doing weighted dips to improve my bench and turns out, so far, I seem to be gettting a carry-over to overheads. We’ll see how this pans out.

MP is looking good. I train at home so there’s only one idiot at my gym.

Dips are a GREAT exercise. I just wish my ass wasn’t so big that doing them hurts my shoulders.
I can believe that you see carryover. Pecs, delts, tris, stabilizers. What more can you ask for??

Skip, my shoulder aches doing dips as well. I’ll be watching dips from the sidelines for a bit as well.

Trap bar Deads Deload

Sets of 5 to 285

Shrugs and bentover shrugs 4x10@185

Nice quick session. In my garage. No humorous gym siteings today.

RL, do you lift with the garage door opened or closed? Just wondering if you inspire, or terrify, the neighbors…or if they don’t get to enjoy the show.

Open, with really obnoxious music. Most of my neighbors, at least the kids, are loud and obnoxious too. Of course, my metal is SOOOOOOO much better than the rap shit they are playing while hanging out in the street trying to look tough and glaring at everyone that goes by and almost hits them with their cars cause these idiots are too slow to move out of the way of a moving vehicle. And as much as I try not to point it out, it isn’t the caucasion kids in my neigborhood doing this crap. Sorry for the rant. It seems to get worse at it warms up. I get the occasional ‘How much do you bench?’ to which I answer ‘alot’. My daughters friends just look at me and the weights and go ‘Hi, sir, how are you?’ Kinda cool really.

That is cool  Keep 'em fearful. I used to have a ball coach that would say, “You’re gonna respect me or you’re gonna fear me. Maybe both…but those are your only two options.”

I can count on one hand the number of rap songs I have liked. Metal is just made for lifting. Well, for those of us who feel that lifting is as much emotional as physical. I have dispensed with a lot of negative energy while lifting.

The kids in my neighborhood are all young…except for 2…1 is a skater type (though well mannered) and the other plays ball, but I never see him. The ones that come around are 4 - 12 years old. As I am the only one in the neighborhood who lifts weights, though, there is some serious gym envy going on with the boys.

Bump!!! Just kidding

Warmups to 135
185x5
210x5
4x5@235
1x10@235
I was looking at what you were thinking of doing, LS. I like to do my sets first, then an all-out, instead of an all-out then additional sets.

Weighted Dips
45x5
65x5
85x5

These are a pain if the weight starts swinging!!!

Hammerstrength Iso Pulldowns
170x5
195x5
220x10

Krocs
3x10@75

And for those who care…Post-workout nutrition…2 Checkers Double Bacon Cheeseburgers…Yummmmmmmm.

Best post-workout nutrition ever! lol

Great bench and dips, RL. Knocking out 10 reps after 4 sets of 5 is great.

And I thought about adding it before, but sine I have, thus far, always exceeded prescribed reps, I figured why not just do the prescribed…after taxed. I may end up hating it. We’ll find out tomorrow.

Post workout nutrition - Triple cheeseburger, sans bun of course and big bowl of Cookie Crisp cereal. Just feel like iritating the supplement whores

1x10@235 looks like more than a 275 max bench. The weighted dips w/85 is outstanding. Cheeseburgers are the ultmate workout food.

Nice work, RL. Never done any Ms, but 235# doesn’t sound comfortable.
You would think the GMs would be painful on the back. Such a strange body part.

That’s the odd thing though. With proper arch and execution, they kick the shit out of me but cause no irritation to my back. And it seems to be a great warmup for box squats. I did say I would take up squatting again. Parallel box squats seem to be just the thing, again.

Thanks Hel. Last time I tried for a max was after my pec healed up and I got to 275. But, because my inclines were coming along so well, I figured I’d use that number instead of deducting 10%. My best ever was 325 touch and go…long before a couple of yrs of yo yo weight loss…225 in winter…185 in summer…2 yrs in a row. I vowed this yr to not do that again. I’ll just stay at 220 or so…current weight…and try and get my strenght and fitness to match the weight.

The latter is more comprehensive and will expose you to the Cisco equipment’s capabilities at some point, but if you’re just breaking into the field, the cert will draw employer attention. Intern as soon and as often as possible. Experience counts for more than certs or degrees.

That’s what I’m shooting for. I figure once I have my Assc.s, I can work and continue toward my next degree, and get some additional certs as well. I don’t need to make mega dollars at this point in my life. A living will do just fine. Especially in that field.

What Tony said. Experience is a biggie, even if from a “lesser” job in the IT field. Getting a cert or two might be the fast track towards getting into the field, though.
Some places don’t put much stock in them. Others, like where I work, get all giddy over them.

Where my manager used to work, they didn’t care about them. Where I work, you have to have an MCSE just to be a computer tech. To be a network guy, you have to have an MCSE and “advanced” Cisco cert.
I got sick of pissing my money away with school, since I had no idea what I wanted to do (and still don’t), and just started getting certs. Once I broke into the field, time in and certs have taken care of the rest.
