Thanks. The funny thing is they seem to be actually helping in making my low back feel better. Must be that ‘stablizing’ thing. ![]()

nice work rug. do you use a false grip on your millies? i decided to try it after seeing a couple times that it helps track your elbows and shoulders better. I really like it.
Great MP and deads. Very solid training. I may try the false grip with MP as John has suggested and see if its better.
I love the false grip. Wrapping the thumbs just feels off. Of course, I say the same thing about bench.
Nice work, RL. Trap bar helping with the back?

Nice
When I do standing military press I tend to get ‘under the weight’. But it usually means taking a wider grip. How wide is your grip when you do these?
Around 2-3in off the smooth. I’ve found hand placement is really important doing mils, in regards to shoulder health. If I go too wide, my shoulders feel ‘odd’. Now, when I’m doing GM’s, or in the rare case that I squat, I need my hands out further to get the bar to set right on my shoulders.
Ditto that last. MP’s with grip wider than that and I feel like my head is being levered off my shoulders. Though at lighter weights and higher reps, a wider grip + false grip might be a good assistance exercise for MP’s.
Mj, Eco, Ls - thanks. I’ve tried the false grip once or twice, just too chicken-shit to keep at it. I feel more comfortable with my thumbs wrapped. And yes LS, the trap bar does help with my back. Forces me to squeeze my glutes while pulling. A great help.

Funny thing though. When I do behind the neck seated mils, I’m actually wider gripped than normal. Kind like when I squat or do GM’s.

What the hell do I do with the rest of my day???

Nice work, RL. Looks like the back is going to play, as long as you don’t go nuts with it. Of course, the 200+ lbs. GMs looks kind of nuts ![]()

Thanks. Odd thing is though, even as my back does better, my bigger issue now is still where the patella? tendon, the one in the front of the quad, attaches to my hip. Thats the one that really gives me shit when I squat and that’s the thing I overcompensate for and injure myself over. GM’s don’t have as much an effect on that area, for me, as squats do. I figure I’ll work GM’s hard and bring up the box squat (I’m more comfortable with these) slowly.
Is that from an injury? Or just something that creeped up one day?
I think the discomfort (not pain) I am experiencing, in my upper left thigh, is in the IT band. Not sure, but that is what it feels like.
Glad that you have some exercises that allow you to work around it. Not being able to do anything would be frustrating plus some.

See! Like I’ve always said…situps are bad for you.

It was ‘Enjoy the silliness at the gym’ day. I’m listing these things for the humor aspect as I was smiling the whole time while training.
2 youngsters 1/4 squatting 4 plates and looking quite silly spotting each other.
Another youngster put 3 plates on a bench, no warmup of course, tried to unrack it, couldn’t, then left it there.
2 other youngsters attempting single arm dumbell snatches, quite poorly I might add, and never failing to increase the bell after each crappy set.
And last but not least, one of the female employees was chatting with a few of the members and trying to sound ‘ghetto’. The funny thing was when I went to leave and she said ‘Have a nice day’…sounded as white as can be. Not that I really care, but come on!

Nice Millies, RL. And I sometimes miss the gym shenanigans. About the only stuff I get is a 4 year old playing with a 1# db or jumping off the bench and an 8 year old who thinks the power rack is a gymnastics set.
Nice lifting RL, if you have random hot coed’s at your gym then it sounds like we lift in the same place.
