Cro-cop against Mike Tyson in Las Vegas…
The Japanese assert that Filipovic will be Tyson’s opponent, but the rules under which the fight will occur are not as yet known.
ZAGREB- Croatian gladiator Mirko Filipovic may be the next adversary of the legendary american professional boxer Mike Tyson! The former world champion in the heavyweight category signed a contract with the japanese organization PRIDE, who on October 21 is organizing a big show in the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Tyson’s opponent in the main bout, for which it is not known if it will be held under Pride, kickboxing or professional boxing rules, it still not certain, but in the Japanese media they’re already speculating how in fact it will be Cro-cop.
“I’d fight Tyson. Talk has come to me as well that I am among the candidates for Tyson’s opponent, but for now I cannot confirm that information. Naturally, I’d willingly enter the ring with such a legend of combat sports. The one thing I am certain of is that I will appear at the show in Las Vegas”
-Mirko Filipovic, who is currently preparing for his appearance in Final Conflict 2006 tournament, held September 10 in the Tokyo suburb of Saitama. As we know, his opponent will be Brazilian Wanderlei Silva, and in the second semi-final American Josh Barnett will fight Brazilian Minotauro.
Tyson and Pride started to talk about a fight baa couple of years ago (by chance at the same time Tyson was talking with the leadership of K-1), but the 40-year-old American backed out and still hoped for a successful continuation of his boxing career. After November 2005, losing by knockout to the seasoned Irishman Kevin McBride, Tyson realized that sporting luck and salvation from his millions in debt needed to be sought elsewhere.
Mike for a million-dollar appearance
Pride’s offer came in the package with the Las vegas hotel-casino Aladdin, which requires Tyson to work at least three of ten contracted bouts. The fight in the Thomas and Mack Center is supposed to be an exhibition, even if it is tradition for famous boxers to appear in review bouts going back to the seventies. Not one American or Japanese media alleges the value of Tyson’s contract, but they estimate that for the appearance on October 21 he won’t receive less than one million dollars.
In Las Vegas Pride’s world champion in the heavyweight category, Russian Fedor Emelianenko will defend his title against American veteran Mark Coleman, and bouts have been announced for Phi Baroni, Josh Barnett, Mauricio Shogun Rua and Japanese Kazuhira Makamura.
