Wish I had some input on the daughter raising but I have two boys. Good luck you guys.

I’ve done jump squats a couple times and injured myself every time. I’ve given those up. Do you find with the higher rep stuff you start to daydream around rep 11?? During high rep squats the other day I found my mind wandering in the later part of each set. [/quote]

Yes, exactly. I will think, “AAAWWW Shit, I have one more set to finish” but i think it helps me with recovery. I feel better after a high rep session than I do after resting a few days.

Dateline: Tuesday, 4:15 am bastardly high rep bench training:

Anderson’s from the 10th pin: 120x20
Bench press: barx20, 135x20, 170x16, 170x13, 170x10
Incline DB press: 2x55x15, 55x13
Cable X-over: 3x45x20
OH tircpes extensions: 3x100x 20

Pretty good training today. I was able to increase the reps on some exercises and up the weight on others. I’ll see how this goes for a couple of weeks and re-evaluate. For now it seems to be helping with the shoulder soreness. My only problem is all the counting of reps. instead of counting to 20 I’m counting to 5 four times. For some reason that helps with the counting boredom. I think my brain gets jumbled when the numbers reach 2 syllables.

What a pretty almost spring day. If we have more of these I’m going to have to break out the Harley:

JW’s Thought of the day: always take life with a grain of salt, …plus a slice of lemon, …and a shot of tequila.

All those reps you better be careful…you might turn into one of those bicep kissing, ab-loving bodybuilders.

Good to hear the high reps are helping the shoulder.

Break out the Harley! If you don’t it may see it’s shadow and we’ll have 6 more weeks of winter.

Well, it is getting close to beach weather.

Nice work!

Nice training Willy! Love that quote, “take life with a grain of salt”… lol!

Thanks Bunny. Glad I could make you chuckle.

In the '70s here today OP and Skip. I wish it was a weekend, I’d air the Hawg out!

Dateline Wednesday, 4:17 am Bastardly attempt at a heavy back day

Squat warm up: 120x20
Kroc rows: 3x120x6
Bent over 'cheater rows" (with straps) 245x6. 3x265x6
Lat pull down: 3x165x8, super setted with face pulls 3x110x8
Shrug in the ground base: 3x360x8

I was going to try a 4th set of Krocs, but the knurl was really sharp on the 120db’s and they cut into my soft tender little baby soft left hand… WWAAAAA!! I used straps on the bent rows. now I’m a cheating gear whore. I guess I need to buy a belt next. Experimenting with super sets. That was kind of fun.

Off to a meeting with a new bank. I think its going to be another “Thanks but no thanks” meeting. Got the report from our present bank’s consultant. The rat bastard cut our legs out from under us with the bank and now he wants us to hire him to turn our company around… Go figure. I also see the red stagecoach’s true business ethics… I’d really like to vent about this whole deal but this isn’t the forum. Plus it might be held against me in a court of law in a future date, when I have a rash fit of rage.

JW’s morning thought: My favorite mythical creature? The honest politician.

Enjoy the weather while you can. Think the T-storms we’re having are heading your way. How you like those jump sqauts. I’m really starting to like them. Your back strength is really getting impressive. You’ll be walking around with the arms stickin out soon.

Thanks Harry. I’m sure trying to get stronger both front and back. We are getting some of your rian now. I wish y’all would keep it down there. We need to dry out up here!!

Dateline Thursday 4:23 am, Bastardly pitiful squat day

Squat warm up: 120x20
Box Squat: 135x5. 2x205x5, 3x225x5
Anderson: 2x250x3
Jump squat: 3x30x6
Elliptical machine: 12 minutes

I was rather uninspired this morning. Playing with the Anderson Squat. I’m starting at the bottom. I like them and will continue to work on that exercise. Climbed back on the Elliptical. I hate cardio, I make no bones about it. I hate it so much tomorrow I’m going to run intervals again. UGH!!

JW’s serious morning statement of fact: Government cannot create wealth. It can seize wealth. It can reallocate wealth. Government can erect barriers to wealth creation and can tear the same barriers down. If Government could create wealth the Soviet Union would have won the Cold War.

JW been very inspired by your training, particularly the Kroc rows. Tried them for the first time yesterday and really feeling it in my upper back. Any idea what weight you started out using on these? I had a hell of a time doing 3 sets of 8 with 75lb dbs. 120’s are impressive as heck.

Thanks Scotto. I started out using 80# dbs. It’s funny how fast you can progress doing them when you are not worried to much about form.

I’m such a wuss. I’m only up to 65’s for sets of 10. Progression is 3, 4, 5, deload, then up the weight again. They do make the upper back ‘swole’. Had to say it. Sorry

Aww Shit Rug, I have been watching your training. You’re no wuss!

Dateline Friday. 4:40 am

Treadmill interval: 30 minutes

OK I am making a solid effort to get back on the cardio kick. My britches are getting tighter. Friday and Monday I’m going to try to run some intervals, etc. Today’s wasn’t bad. Still I sabotaged it. After a decent breakfast of Greek yogurt, mixed with nuts and dried cranberries, I stopped at Hardee’s for a double sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. Couldn’t stop with one, I had to eat 2… I’ll do better tomorrow.

JW’s morning thought: Procrastination has it’s good side. You always have something to do tomorrow.

The treadmill intervals are back! You were doing those every workout for a long time. One day at a time when it comes to eating for guys like us who love food so much. You’ve inspired me to throw in some cardio tonight.

Dateline: Saturday, 5:05 am Bastardly bench training

Squat warm up: 120x20
Bench press: barx20, 135x10, 170x8, 210x6, 250x5, 280x1, 300x1, 315xmiss, 315x1 (ugly PR) 250x5
Dips: 2xBWx10
DB incline: 70x6, 2x75x6
Flat fly: 3x35x8 super set with elevated push ups 3x6
JM in the Smith: 205x8, 225x6, 245x3
Dips: BWx6x4x3
Treadmill jog: 10 minutes

Woke up this morning and got myself an ugly PR. My ass came off the bench a wiggled, did the shimmy-shake and everything else, but dammit 315 went up. Film at 11.
Missed the first attempt, my ear bud cord was pulling at me and had me distracted. I said WTF unloaded and reloaded the bar and made another attempt. Thankfully my ego was spared. Looking at the film I know 315 is my max. Nothing in the tank. Looks like my sticking point is in the middle of the lift. I should formulate a plan for that. I am open for ideas.

I pushed the DB weight up as well as the JM press weight. I also did 2 sets of dips for some strange reason. Actually there was a cat doing some super sets in the cable thingies so I went repeat with the dips. Like an idiot I ran on the treadmill. All and all a pretty good training day.

JW’s morning thought: Every so often, I like to go to the window, look up, and smile for a satellite picture.

congrats on three wheels Wilson!

Nice pressing Wilson, three wheels is big.

Nice work. You ever consider board presses. May help your sticking point. 2,3,and 4 board seem to work the mid range of the bench.

Thanks Joe and George, its been over 25 years since the 3 wheel days for me.
Rug, I’m going to start some kind of board work. I hope I can find a 4 am helper…

Dateline Sunday, 5:23 am Bastardly boring high rep back day

Kroc Row: 3x90x20
Lat pull down 3x105x15 super set with face pulls: 3x60x12
Reverse fly: 3x35x14
Shrug in the standing calf machine: 3x270x20

Breezed in and out today. Nothing to remarkable, other than the Lat pull downs seemed really heavy. Everything else was painfully boring. I guess I am not meant to count that high. Maybe that’s why I’m sawmill trash!

Went down and helped my parents fix my grandmother’s beach house up to put on the rental market. It was bittersweet taking out some of her stuff that we didn’t want damaged or stolen. There were a lot of memories there. I still have folks stop and ask me about the old woman that was bundled up like an Ewok sitting on the porch in Feb watching the cars ride by.

JW’s morning thought: My wife is such a diplomat. She told me to go to hell in such a way that I am looking forward to the trip.

JW, your bench and back work are looking stout. 315 was a real grinder, great job gutting it out!
