JW, sometime set the pins in the rack real high and do 1/4 squats. You can use a ton of weight. Makes you feel like Meat and Pete for a little while.

Lol…amen to that. Except, even on 1/4 squats, I can’t do what they do for fulls.
When you drop the weight back down for the real squats, though, they sure feel lighter.[/quote]

Has the nice effect of strengthening the spinal erectors and upper back when you pile on the weight, too.

Gong to do it Thursday am… O-darkthirty

Wednesday morning workout

Rubber band dislocate: 15 reps
YTWL: 10 lbs
Waterbury DB complex: 6 sets
Treadmill fat burning program: 20 minutes

Got my ass kicked AGAIN by a set of 20 lb dumbbells… Damn what a humbling experience! By the 3rd set my tongue was wagging. I gave up the ghost on set 6. I think I’m going to shoot for a 10 set goal.

Made it out to an 8th grade soccer match to see my nephew play. The lanky kid can run for 30 years it seems. He scored a goal. His team beat the team from my town. I can take him playing soccer in the fall because he plays lacrosse in the spring. There is something neat about a sport where its legal to whack your opponent with a long ass stick! My kid is an artist so I go to ballet and voice recitals. I’m always amazed how she can perform so naturally on stage. I’d be in a corner somewhere puking my guts up with nerves.

JW’s morning question: If it only takes one match to start a forest fire, why on earth does it take me a whole box of matches and 5 gallons of lighter fluid to light my damn grill?

“tongue was wagging” - that is exactly why I avoid those damnable things. You are a better man than I, because I am sure that I could benefit from some sort of complex, but haven’t the gumption to do 'em.

I have to agree on both counts…sports involving controlled violence have a flavor absent in all others. And I am not much for being the center of attention either, hence my phobia of a PL meet.

I may have asked this before, but how far are you from the Outer Banks?

It takes me an hour to get to Nags Head. It’s about 3 1/2 hours to Wrightsville which is down in the southern part of the state.

Just caught up. Sounds like you’re likin the new gym. The enviroment (and right equipment) really make for good, or bad, workouts. Squats are coming along. Bet you see big jumps in them.

Hang in there. You’re going in the right direction.
Good luck and keep pumping that iron.

Thursday evening workout

Speed Bench with bands: Barx20, 135x10, 2x135x3-3, 2x205x3
Hammer decline: 4x55x10
Hammer incline: 4x45x10
Pec deck, pushup superset:3x120x 12, 8 pushups
OH triceps with rope, straight bar triceps push down: 3x80xfailure

I guess I was having a dynamic effort day last night. For what ever reason I decided to play with the Hammer machines. Like the incline, hate the decline. If I do declines I’ll work on the decline bench. I’m thinking Sundays will be my DE chest day and Wed night will be a ME night. I decided to sleep in this morning so tomorrow I’ll squat.

Here is the beginning of Autumn in the swamp for you LS…

JW’s morning consideration: The next time someone says, “Now I’ve seen everything”, ask them if they’ve ever seen a UPS truck parked in a parking space.

Nice picture. Never saw much outside of LeJeune (and the strip bars in J-ville). Congrats once again on not having to use a smith anymore!

Friday Morning workout

Was a paint out… I stumbled in the gym this morning, hoping to make up for squat day I missed yesterday morning, only to find painting contractors working in the room with the squat rack. Since I had my Chucks on and I wasn’t in the mood to do a complex I carried my ass back home and took a shower.

I’m really dejected. I wanted to squat today…

JW’s morning question: Who’s idea was it to make the word abbreviation so long?

Thanks, j-willy. When I first saw the pic I thought you had slipped down to my old toddling grounds…the Okefenokee, in south GA. Makes me miss home.
Do you guys have any gators that far north? My youngest would go wild over seeing one (and probably wet his pants). Might be a good find, next Summer, when we are out your way.

There are a few gators up here. We are a bit too far north. However we are seeing more and more. They dont get real big becasue the seasons are so ‘short’ this far north. but the fancy reptile science cats say there hasnt been gators in northeast NC in about 700 years.

The photo was taken at the little creek behind the mill.

Nice swimmin hole. Feel the same way about the hammer equipment. Love the incline and the decline always bothered my shoulders. Squat tomorrow.

Little creek, huh? In OK, that qualifies as a river…lol. Looks like a serene place.

Saturday Morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 10 lbs
Bench Press: Bar x 20, 135x10, 185x6, 205x9, 205x8
Incline DB press: 3x55x10
Hammer wide chest: 45x15, 55xx15, 70x10
Rev grip CGP inclines in the Smith: 135x10, 2x185x8

I did my Sunday chest routine today, in hopes of incorporating Ed Coan’s bench progression into my bench. Today was SUPPOSED to be the first week. I was supposed to do 2 working sets at 205. Apparently I’m not as strong as I thought. I failed at 9 and 8 reps. It was kind of disheartening. I’m going to start over my next ME day and break the working sets up into 4 sets of 5. Damn, I thought I was stronger. than I really am…

Missing the bench reps kind of blew my whole mindset for my training. I just bumbled through it.

JW’s question of the day: Has anyone (besides Donald Trump’s wife) ever been fooled by a comb over?

I think a lot of people do the same thing. I know I do. If my performance is off on my ME, and sometimes just when I’ve completed my ME, the air lets out of my sail.
Everyone is going to have an off day. Don’t let it bum you. Just more fuel for the fire next time you lift. Sometimes lifting angry can be a good thing.

I don’t know. Told my barber not to even “help” me that way when he started changing my cut.

Sunday morning workout

Rev. grip bent row: 135x10, 3x185x6
Chest supported row on a fancy row bench bench: 4x90x10
Hammer low row: 70x18, 3x80x10
Face pull: 3x70x12
Hammer iso lat pull: 3x70x10
DB shrug: 3x75x10
Hies shrug: 275x10, 3x325x10
Rack pull from the knee: 225x5, 4x275x2
Cable pull thru: 3x50x10

Still searching to rind the back and shoulder combo. Got a lot of work done. I’ll be sore in the morning! the combo of Hammer low rows and the Hammer lat machine worked the hell out of my lats. The hies shrugs worked good for 2 reasons. I can get the feel of some heavier weight on my back and it works the crap out of my traps.I have got to figure in some grip work. I cant hold 275 for 2 freaking reps… this kind of hurts my soul… Oh well… Gotta get studying on grip strengthening!

JW’s question of the day: If laughter is the best medicine - who came up with the phrase, “I died laughing”?

JW- Grip is an issue for me as well. I find that doing my rack pulls with snatch grip really hammers the forearm and helps build grip and ofcourse hammers the crap out of your upper back. That and High volume (20-30 ) reps sets of DB rows…Damn you did a lot of pulling today.

Lot more volume than usual. Having fun with the new toys? 2 10# plates back to back for a start on the grip work. Hies shrug is a new one to me. Answer to question of the day, an overdose.
