I completely agree that Henson and Cipriani have not lived up to their potential (I wouldn’t put Powell in their league), however I don’t think that there is any denying that, on his day, Henson is the best and most complete inside centre in the world.
God! Up to now I thought you were being ironic with all this Gavin Henson stuff, but you really mean it don’t you? Oh dear.
Gavin Henson hasn’t done anything of note on an International stage (or at club level for that matter) since that penalty to beat England 11-9 in Cardiff in 2 thousand and fucking 5!! and that was only significant because Wales hadn’t beaten England in 20 years or so.
I’m not a great fan of Cipriani either, but at least the guy is actually “playing” rugby.
And there’s no way Cipriani would be in England’s WC squad based on how he played during the Ireland game in the 6N in 2008. That is literally the equivalent of what Gatland has done.
You really shouldn’t be commenting on a rugby thread, you clearly know nothing about it.
Gavin Henson the best inside centre in the world?, Don’t make me laugh. Even if you mentioned that in a pub here in Wales they would laugh you out the door.
Hw was also an intrumental part of the Wales team that won the Grand Slam in 2008, he represented the British Lions in 2005, until recently he was Ospreys all time highest points scorer and he won the Celtic League and Cup with Ospreys…
Try getting your facts right, prick…
Firstly, I’ll ignore the prick comment because this is the internet after all and I’m pretty sure that if we were discussing this IRL you wouldn’t have said that to my face, you’re just being brave because you know you can get away with it and I don’t want to get in to childish name calling.
Secondly, I admit GH “did” have talent once but he’s squandered it and for that reason can never be considered one of the best,
Thirdly, he is the top scorer for a welsh region that has only been going a few years, it’s not like he’s the top scorer for a team like Harlequins who have been going for about 150 years, that means nothing.
Fourthly, whether you get to be a Lion or not depends more upon who’s picking the team, not necessarily how good a player you are. Like when Woodward was in charge there was a large contingent of England players and when Gatland was in charge nearly all of them were Welsh. Christ even Andy Powell and Leigh Halfpenny can claim to be Lions.
finally, congratulations! you are going to be the very first person I am going to put on ignore. I’ve even resisted the urge to put The Bird tweet tweet on ignore which shows how annoying you must be.
Well done.

I really don’t want to get too involved in a conversation about someone who can barely claim to be a rugby player anymore, and seems to seek out the celebrity lifestyle, but I will say that I always thought the worst thing which happened to Henson was that tackle he made on Tait in the Six nations. All of a sudden he was in the limelight, and the tabloid media, in their usual shit coverage of rugby, sensationalised it and gave him too much credit for too little. I always felt that it was part of a conscious act in order to create another ‘Beckham’ type that they could build up and then pull down.
So how about that rugby world cup?
Friendlies happening this weekend. Any predictions? Im not sure if the other home nations have any lined up this saturday?
I predict a quite explosive game between wales and england. With hopefully england winning. Unless of course Henson is playing, then i predict him scoring atleast 90 points and destroying us.
How about AUS and NZ?
Im not sure who is at home and who isnt. I think that will play a key part.
Good day full of Rugby on Saturday. Got the Tri nations, the England v Wales game, and Ireland v Scotland.
I predict wins for Oz, England and Ireland.
It should be interesting to see the results over the next 3 or so weeks. I think we will know a lot more about each teams chances.
Apparently England intend to play a much more attacking game, according to Mike Tindall:

Before i read that, id just like to say that i dont think the words ‘mike tindall’ and ‘attacking’ have ever been used in a sentence before!
Bit like joe worsley and dynamic. Man im glad he’s been dropped from the squad.

Yeah he’s a bit past it now, but he’s been a good servant to England. Remember how he completely nullified Jamie Roberts single handed and that tap tackle against Australia in the quarters of the world cup in 2007 that would have been a definite try?
Great tackler, used to “scythe” people down at the ankles.
Have any of those teams for the weekend released their teams yet?

Oh yeah a fantastic tackler. Technically brilliant. Wasps in the european final? a few years ago. I think he had the task of tackling the toulouse? number 8. My memory is piss poor to be honest, and i cant be bothered to look it up! But he had him under wraps all game.
I had the pleasure of being coached by him a few times when i was in an academy. Really nice guy, took a few jokes about his head on the chin lol.
I dont see how he couldve been in the squad when he wasnt even starting at wasps… who are shit.
EDIT: i hope you were talking about worsley lol, like i said my memory is terrible.
I dont think they have released the squad yet.
What do you think about the black kit? The video sparked my memory of it. Personally i think its ridiculous. Its not the national colours so why do it? Its like ireland wearing red, or wales wearing green… or the all blacks, wearing white.

The OZ tight 5 will be under severe scrutiny this weekend, should be a better indication of what their world cup chances are
agreed…lets see how genia/cooper do going backwards

Yep, definitely their first ‘proper’ test. Can see some weaknesses being exposed myself.

I’m really interested in this. It’s been my argument for a while that Cooper is nowhere near the same class when he’s not going forward.
Gotta agree about Mrs. Henson there, first person I’ve ever decided to put on ignore.
Anyways, really looking forward to the OZ and AB match, more so than the Irish match even. Like has already been mentioned, home advantage will likely be the deciding factor.
Scotland always give the Irish a run for their money so I wouldn’t be too confident at this stage. Looking forward to see if young Connor Murray is picked at SH in the early friendlies to suss him out. Dude has bucket loads of potential and will be a star for Ireland and Munster in years to come im sure
EDIT: stupid iPad and fucking auto correct
i have a feeling he’ll be on the plane…would love to see murray/boss/reddan and o’leary left out…really hasnt been the same since his lions ending ankle injury imo
scotland/ireland will be a standard boring boshfest…whatever you say about scotland, they’re always extremely physical…i wonder if they have all bulked up again like before the last wc…
Oz/Nz should be well worth dragging your arse out of bed on your day off for…

Oh god here we go haha.
Not meaning to turn this into a standard munster/leinster affair but even with tthhe shitty performances O’Leary has been putting in over the last 12 months you still couldnt pick Boss over him. Boss has never even hit international level IMO(although ill always remember his break away try against England in Croker in 2007 with great fondness). Undoubtedly the season with Leinster has done him the world of good but he simply isnt good enough. I think he proved this at the start of the previous season when Jo Schmidt inexplicably picked Boss over Reddan and Boss continued to disappoint. Not that im overly fond of Reddan either. Although a good friend from college stuck around after the munster/leinster clash back in april and got a chance to talk to Reddan for a bit, said he was one of the nicest guys he’s ever talked to!
Nah I wont be dragging myself out of bed for it, beauty of Sky+ haha

My bad. It always seems like he’s playing when Carter’s given a rest. Him coming on against Australia in the bledisloe cup completely turned the game on its head. What is your opinion of Nick Evans? He’s consistently been the best number 10 in the Guinness Prem for a number of seasons yet he’s still over looked. I know he’s playing over the other side of the world but a player of his calibre should definitely be given a chance IMO.
Right on the money mate.
He has publicly stated that he would answer the call, but the dilemma for the NZRU, I guess, is relax the rules about picking overseas-based All Blacks or risk another painful World Cup meltdown if Danny boy gets injured and the back up pivots can’t step up to the plate. (And as you rightfully pointed out, little Nicky evans can step up.)

Hahaha! You’d always see this kinda shit in French Rugby. Hilarious.
I’ve been following British Rugby for a few years and you rarely get big fights like those.
And I hate Stade Francais’ kit. It’s too pink.

True, it never goes off quite like this! …Martin Johnston did have a very handy right hook back in the day though.
Funny watching huge men in pink put the bash on.

Exactly, they both require quality ball going foward. So The AB’s task will be to take that away from them.

Mike Tindall in one of my favourite moments, from one of my favourite games of the 2003 WC.
Doing a bit of gardening, trying to plant Gregan into the ground like a tree.
Yes! I remember that hit - I hated Gregan with a passion too…typical scrum half - much prefer Kelleher!
Id post that massive hit from Lewsey on Rodgers (sp) where he broke his rib haha, best technical hit ever IMO
