Ok… I’m a bit of T-nation newbie. I’ve been reading / practicing for a while (~2 years 25 lbs of mass gain) but haven’t posted much. I have a couple of questions about rounded shoulders. What is a good way to tell if one has rounded shoulders? I may be able to submit a pic if I can get my cam to work but any general signs? I have a strong back and squat and deadlift often. Along the same lines I work back and chest alternating. My main lifts are:
Bench: 1 x 215
Squat: 1 x 275 (previous best about 2 months ago, working back from injury)
Dead: 1 x 295 (2 weeks ago)
Pullups: 1x35lbs or 6 x 20 lbs
I’m 5’8, 179 lbs probably 12-14% bf right now. Just curious if anyone can give me some hints or point me towards an answer.
I’m not positive, and I don’t have the time to check right now, but I think one of the Neaderthal No More articles points out how to spot postural distortions, including rounded shoulders.
Go to a mirror. If no matter which way you flex and squeeze you can’t make your rear delt as big as your front delt them IMHO you would have rounded shoulder (I have rounded shoulder too). Row, row, row your boat in the future for me.
It’s a bit hard o explain in words but the one many physio’s tell their clients is
turn side on to a mirror, look at you shoulder area, is there a depression or crater where toy anterior delt meets your upper pec, just below the collar bone? Look also at you back now, does you shoulder blade stick out? Does the shoulder sit forward towards the chest as opposed to back (which would flatten the line of the upper back out)?
These would all suggest rounded shoulders but it’s hard to tell as every one has a different shape.
