I have to say I get bored with bb curls too. I don’t really do them much any more.

SM = Smith Machine Squats… I know, I suck…
I have been going back and forth with these and the seated leg press just to give me some variation and because I feel each in a different way.

I saw a trainer have a large, elderly lady on a bosu ball having to do bent over rows.
Do you ever use the rowing machine for your cardio?

Bent over Rows on a ball seem awkward. I doubt she would be able to go up in weight that much either, though I bet that wasn’t her goal wants to be toned ![]()
Nah, the rowing machine seems boring to me. I like spinning or HIIT using uphill walking or eliptical.

Shouldn’t they just make the elderly do practical stuff like being able to walk up some stairs, lift their groceries and lift themselves out of a chair!???
I haven’t tried spinning yet. I am a fan of the rowing machine.
They have a trial machine for a week, I think it was called a versaclimber and it was like you were climbing a wall. Now that was freaking hard. You had grips for your hand and you strapped your feet in and you tried to work yourself up by moving your limbs.

Are you talking more about the crippled and handicapped or just the elderly here? ![]()
I like spinning because it can be challenging and alot of people quit because of the amount of sweat and because they just feel like it is too hard… I just like doing things that are supposed to be difficult.
That versaclimber sounds interesting… get a video of you on it for me ![]()
I need to check out a spinning class! ya, I admit…I’m scared ![]()
I see ladies(and men) coming out of the room, DRENCHED…looks like fun! ![]()

ah good point. I am probably vastly underestimating the abilities of the elderly. I was just thinking of lifts that more coincided with how life works. haha! but then again, I have lifted the bag of dog food and slid on a wet patch of dog drool so maybe the bosu maneuver wasn’t a bad idea.
Oh the versaclimber was a hit. They only had it for about a week though.

I think the majority of trainers in local gym just give the same type of routine to everyone no matter what their deal is. I am pretty sure the trainers in my gym have no education in personal training and fitness and just go by the same cookie cutter rules for everyone.

I will admit depending on one’s fitness goals spinning may not be for them but I think everyone should try it before they knock it. What I like about it is that you can really push your self depending on how much tension you add. I see some who never add tension and they barely sweat and never look like they really worked. I see others that literally have a puddle of sweat under them by the end of the class.
In the end I just really like the challenge of doing something thought of to be difficult.
I would say the most important thign when you are new to the spinning class is making sure your seat is adjusted correctly, the instructor can usually assist you. The one aspect can usually make or break the class for you.

There actually is a computer program at the gym chain where I work that generates workouts and I think some of the trainers actually go by it. My coworkers and I tend to laugh at it, but there are some weirdly bad trainers out there. For example, today I saw a woman trainer teaching a fairly functional 40 year old man how to deadlift. She accomplished this by handing him 1 45lb plate to hold in each hand and telling him to bend over while sticking his chest out. I know she was trying to teach him a deadlift because she said “Now it’s time to do deadlifts” right before she started him on the plates.

eye roll
I don’t know that I would have been able to stop myself from saying something if I saw that…
I have really slacked off on doing this particular work out day, luckaly I really havn’t lost anything during that time period.
One Arm DB Rows 1x5x45, 5x5x55
Upright Rows 1x8x50, 3x6x60
HS Lat Puldown 1x8x45, 2x8x70, 1x6x80
HS Iso Lateral Shoulder Press 1x8x35, 1x8x45, 2x8x55
Guys were using my barbells so I had to use the machine for my shoulders… it actually was not bad. If I don’t have any shoulder issues like I used to with direct shoulder work I may continue to use it.
Some guy was bathed in colonge at the gym… why would any guy do that, esp. at the gym, bleh!
You should have told them to give you the damn db’s.
Nice workout.
Deadlift 1x8x135, 1x5x185, 2x5x205, 1x1x225, 1x0x265 FAIL!!!
yeah, that did not work, it’s what I get for slacking off.
CG Bench Bress 1x10x65, 1x8x95, 1x5x115, 4x5x125
Goblet Squat 1x8x75, 1x8x80
Tricep Pull over 2x5x50
So I guess my triceps are really getting stronger. This is great, however the arms in my clothes ae getting to be an issue… I’m not sure I like that…

It is a little weird when body parts start exploding through clothing. How awesome do your arms look though?

Yeah, I noticed I tend to have power spurts in different body parts and lifts.
Now it is bench and triceps and before it was deadlift. My back and quads and are starting soon too.
They certainly look strong but they would look better if I had a bit less body fat to actually show definition.
