I unfortunately did not have access to a belt and wraps today and it showed in my squat work out. I will post a video of 225 with out a belt or wraps. I had hoped that I would be able to at least get to 250 with out any assistance but that didn’t happen.
As I have been feeling constantly achey I made it a point to do some mobility work foe my legs, hips and low back. A little foam rolling and some streching. After my work today I spent some time in the pool and then the hot tub. I have to say that one or a combination of those things helped me today.
Failure is always funny.
Our gym needs real cages.
congrats on the deads Pr!
squating heavy with no belt is quite a challenge. if you never fail, you never push hard enough. good job.
a 200+ squat, a club I will probably won’t ever be a part of.
Great work!!!
time to get a belt ?
are you squeezing those shoulder blades together really tight the whole way? try to get the arms a little more underneath and work on keeping the chest up.
Where are your eyes focused?
I agree w/nlmain, got to be a fail once in awhile or how do I know what I’m capable of?

It is time to get a belt I just can’t afford one yet. I keep hearing that I might get one for Christmas though… ![]()
I remember I was squaeeing my shoulder blades tight when I unracked it but as soon as I went to get a big breath I felt them release. I am having some trouble the heavier I go with getting that breath and holding my form through my upper body. I tried to just hold on tot he breath but I can’t with out gett light headed. Any suggestions?
My eyes are on a foucs point behind me and above my head.
I fail alot so yay! ![]()

Don’t say never. You never know what is possible even in a sucky situation.
I didn’t say the ‘N,’ word… ![]()
but your right. Just trying to be real, kwim?
squatting over 200lbs is not as important to me as being able to walk, lol.

Are you taking a breath via stomach not into the chest? Reason I ask is wearing a belt you take in the air, fill up the stomach and press out on the belt. Really helps stabilize the core and I find helps keep the back tight.
You weren’t wearing belt so you had nothing to press against and that is a little harder. When I walk out the weight, I get big air for the pick ( unrack), walk back and set stance up, making sure I’m upright, no bend at the hips yet, pull the shoulders back even more, big breath thru the stomach.
I think of a piston, strong and tight, down and up.
Also I think the pick is one of the most important parts of a successful squat, good, strong pick usually equals a good squat ( for me anyway
)

Yes, squatting isn’t worth anything if yyou can’t walk.

I do get a big breath for the unrack. When I step back I let it out and get another big breath but somehow it just doesn’t seem big enough. I will pay more attention to how I am taking that breath. With the belt it does seem to work better though ![]()
PR’s all around.
Nice work Rhonda good squats and pulling.
air and belts- it took me a while to figure out how to use the belt
I didnt use one for years, but have learned how to get a big air
and stay tighter
good work
Awesome squatting! I must admit I’ve only been squatting with any seriousness for a couple of years, and then on and off due to lower back and hip issues. I’m trying to work my way up to 70kg (154lbs) which is probably a warm-up weight for you. In all truth, I find squatting a bit bloody scary so seeing you fail with a smile on your face makes me realise it’s probably not so bad.

What I did with that last squat I failed on was to move the safty bars up one noch just incase I didn’t make it up. That makes a fail a little easier as you don’t skin up your neck, which is something I have done in the past. I bet 154 is pretty close for you ![]()

then I helped a girl out who came up to me and asked how she could get hips like mine… I so had to fight back saying “get fat” ![]()
Congrats on the bench PR! Nice work.
