No one is hating on him, just wondering if it’s real or not.

I’m not hating on Stallone, dipshit. Grow up. I’m hating on idiots who belive that a 60 year old man - let me say that again - a 60 year old man who is NOT and has never been an olympic lifter, but whose training background is in bodybuilding clean and jeked 315 pounds.

If you ASKED Stallone I guarantee he’d tell you that it was like 80 kilos or something like that.

Is there ANYONE out there with some frame of reference who can help me out here? Anyone been in o-lifting and can back me up here?

Seriously, it is so ridiculous it’s not worth discussing.
Is this supposed to be directed at me? If it is try rereading the post that I was replying to.

As far as me asking in the first place I asked because I didn’t believe it and wanted some opinions to backup my discussion with a buddy about it.

As for a frame of reference (from someone who’s spent the past 4 years in 4 different uni gyms) I’ve seen two guys clean 315, a couple clean 275, and I myself can do 310. So in the world of those who don’t specifically train in the sport I think it’s pretty rare.

There’s also a part in the training montage where he’s throwing uppercuts with some heavy DB’s.

Most boxers will tell you that even using light weights can throw off your form, so not sure what he’s accomplishing here.

But, like others have said, it’s a movie and I’m more than happy to suspend my reality for 2 hours and watch the flick. I just hope it’s decent.

Yeah. Me, too. I think it looks cool and - in my mind - ROCKY will be jerking 315 prepping for his fight with the other guy. And I’ll be proud as hell 'cause I’m an o-lifter and it’s in a ROCKY movie. But come on, he could walk in and win just about any 94 open class for most state’s championships, local meets, etc. That’s OPEN.

There is a huge devide between someone like Matt Devine who won this years 94 class at the American Open two weeks ago with a approx. 400 pound kg. and the rest of that class (a couple hundred lifters nationwide). I’d say under 10% of them clean and jerk more than 140 kg. (308). And most them aren’t 60 year old actors.
good point…

I am sure they really thought about the fake amount of weight to show.

They ‘probably’ thought it was somewhat reasonable for boxer who is competing for the heavy weight title to be doing that…knowing 95% of the audience knows nothing about how much weight that really is…beside us folks

Ya, that scene also made me laugh. He’s lugging around what looks to be a pair of 60-pound dumbells (which again are fake) and throwing horrible technique “uppercuts”.

Anybody who knows even the first thing about punching and/or boxing training will let you know that that is a ridiculous way to train. You use very very light dumbells if you choose to use dumbells at all. Or you just get heavier gloves.

I can guarantee you that a lot of boxers are gonna be laughing their asses off at the training scenes of the movie if they ever choose to go see that movie.

Obviously it was not directed at you.

You make an EXCELLENT observation, though. You’ve been in 4 UNIVERSITY gyms. Probably seen some athletes train. You haven’t seen many guys - at any size/age - duplicate this lift. I think you HAD the answer all along. Your buddy should have listed to you.

As much as it pains me to, I have to agree with everything Hack said. I am not a practitioner of that type of lifting but it just didn’t make sense to me that he could be clean and jerking that weight in his current state. On another note that 85 DB simultaneous curl is impressive with his size at that time.

It shouldn’t pain you to agree with me. It should make you feel GOOD! Real good. Great, in fact.

Is the blood he sheds in Rocky real or fake? Real – You haters!

That pretty much answers your question. NO ONE who has ever done any O-lifting would have wondered whether Sly could C&J 315. NO ONE.

Also, notice how the bar doesn’t bend at all (in the pics of the C&F and squat)? NO ONE who has ever had three plates on a bar for ANY lift would have wondered whether the photos were fake. As you know, bars start to bend a little bit once you have three plates on per side.

I’m adding lots of names my Idiot’s List. (I informally keep track of people who say such obviously stupid things that I know to discount anything they write in the future.)

Really, ANYONE who wondered whether those pics were authentic has NO BUSINESS saying anything about weight lifting or bodybuilding.

Here is the news, guys. Stallone is 60. He is not jerking 315. Not now. And I’ll make an educated guess and say, “Not EVER!” Curling 85s has NOTHING to do with he can clean and jerk 315. I’ve jerked 190 kg. (418). I have never even TRIED to curl 85 pound dumbbells. The two don’t correlate at all.

He’s a short guy with short arms. Never say never - or in your case ‘not ever’.

Look. I’ve been around world class o-lifter for around 12 years now. Cleaning and jerking 315 is nothing to me or guys in the sport. It IS something to 60 year old masters lifters. As a matter of fact, the American record for the 105 kg. class is around 260 pounds. Sly is not near that big. Also, cleaning and jerking 315 is not akin to benching 315. Sly can probably bench 315. Don’t know. But I DO know for an absolute fact that he is not jerking 315 with THAT shallow split, at the age of 60, weighing a little more or less than 200 pounds. I DO know that.
You said, “not ever”. I merely told you to never say never. I never said he could do it now.

You are also talking clean and jerk. I am talking just the jerk.

Pay the fuck attention. Or do you enjoy looking like a total fucking douche bag?

It doesn’t matter to me one way or the other.

OK, this should have been my 1st post as opposed to third, but here goes anyway:

The winner of the men’s 60-64 94kg weight class at this years Master’s Worlds in weightlifting snatched 93kgs (about 204 pounds) and clean & jerked 110kgs (242 pounds)
Yea, but if Rocky had competed, the number would have been MUCH higher!

his knees aren’t even wrapped correctly in that pic lol.

See. I wouldn’t really know that. What I DO know about…well…I know. Yet people don’t want to believe me…just because I’m an asshole.

Yeah, you’re pretty much an asshole. SFW? You write with authority on these issues. I’m not sure why people are worried about “personality conflict” issues.

I’d much rather have a site populated with assholes than know-nothing pencilnecks who think “Rocky” can C&J 315 and aren’t curious why a O bar with 4 plates on the side isn’t showing some “give.”

Long live the assholes!

Since I started this thread do these paragraphs both apply to me?

Haha, that did make me chuckle. To be honest I thought you were going to blame it all on the liberals so in that respect it was refreshing!

Take care,

Chuck Norris could jerk 315 and then some.

Neither are his wrists. And I have to admit that I agree with the earlier statement that someone made; the training montages are just going to look like advertisements for his own supplement line.

You’re not the only one who knows. Sly will never ever jerk 315. He never has, and he never will.

What is frightening to me is that this movie is going to come out, and all the 170lb guidos are going to start wanting to think they are bad asses again. Watch for the lemmings and the way they ape what they see like good little chimp guidos in a spa/fitness gym near you.

i think u guys are missing the point.

can ROCKY clean and jerk 315 at 60 yrs old.

i believe the answer is clearly YES.

lol
