Rocky Jerking 315

See. I wouldn’t really know that. What I DO know about…well…I know. Yet people don’t want to believe me…just because I’m an asshole.

Yeah, you’re pretty much an asshole. SFW? You write with authority on these issues. I’m not sure why people are worried about “personality conflict” issues.

I’d much rather have a site populated with assholes than know-nothing pencilnecks who think “Rocky” can C&J 315 and aren’t curious why a O bar with 4 plates on the side isn’t showing some “give.”

Long live the assholes!
AHHHHHHHHHH! good point with the bar! you do get some ‘whip’ in the bar as you approach that weight. with elieko it’s pretty slight between 140 and 150 kg. but when you get around 170 and up it gets more pronounced. good call!

As much as it pains me to, I have to agree with everything Hack said. I am not a practitioner of that type of lifting but it just didn’t make sense to me that he could be clean and jerking that weight in his current state. On another note that 85 DB simultaneous curl is impressive with his size at that time.

It shouldn’t pain you to agree with me. It should make you feel GOOD! Real good. Great, in fact.

Haha, that did make me chuckle. To be honest I thought you were going to blame it all on the liberals so in that respect it was refreshing!

Take care,

wait a minute! i didn’t say the liberals were NOT to blame for this one! in fact, they PROBABLY are! i think it’ll come out that that obama guy had a hand in the cover-up. i only say it now 'cause you brought it up. i thought it’d sound crazy, just coming from me!

i always like to think that something positive might come from stuff like this: more people training like this.

back in the mid-90’s, olympic lifting was dead. i mean…more dead than it is now. i’d do a snatch or CJ and people would like at me like i was from venus.

now? i go into gyms and see people at least attempting a reasonable facimile of the lifts; power cleans, what-have-you. maybe this will bring about more of that.

i think olympic lifting is a great sport. it has a rich history and it is - hands down - the most difficult thing i have ever done. i still can’t believe some of things i’ve been able to do when i remember where i was at ‘the beginning’ of it all.

too bad that USAW (usa governing bod) is lost in their coaching of athletes, management of the program and outreach to the public.

can ROCKY clean and jerk 315 at 60 yrs old.

i believe the answer is clearly YES.

lol
Of course Rocky can do it at 60 years old.

I don’t think the directors would care if he could or not. They usually film each scene multiple times, so they wouldn’t have him C&j 315 anyways.

It’s not in the commercials, but did anyone see the Rocky highlight on Hollywood Insider last night? Sly is swinging (or maybe snatching) a kettlebell.

Damn its a freakin’ movie people! I saw the hulk throw a helicopter against a mountain, was that real? Stallone is built like a brick shit house without a doubt, but you have to seriously be somewhat retarded to think he is jerking 315lbs. Especially (even if you are that naive) when you have two very experienced olmypic lifting coaches (Hack and Staley) explaining the facts.

You saw the hulk throwing a helicopter against a mountain and you want to know if it was real…? If you were referring to the real incredible hulk, Lou Ferrigno, then yes it was most definitely real!

For those of you to lazy to read the other posts, or just have more important things to be doing, it has clearly been demonstrated that Stallone could not have done this at his age (60, unbelievably) or he would hold a record by around 65 pounds in the clean and jerk.

Having said that, I am one of those that would have believed he could. I have been away from consistent training for more than 2 years (been back 2 months), I have a f’ed up knee, and I still push pressed 250 last week. I suspect if I was capable of performing the split jerk with proper technique I could do more. So 315 lbs for Stallone didn’t seem like that much of a stretch to me in jerk (w/o clean.) If anything, I would be more impressed by the 85 lb dumbbell incline curls for reps (or less due to functionality)…I could maybe do half of that.

Well I guess the guy in the “Under Armor” commercial wasn’t really power cleaning 4 plates on a side for reps because the bar didn’t show flexion on the way up and int he clean position.

We all know there will be some amount of “bow” starting around 3 plates. And with movement even more.

Not so much in eleiko, sheiko, and the manufacturers used in national/internationl competition. That said, the guy in the under armor add had a 20kg. bar w/ 2 20 kg., 4 15 kg. and two 10 kg. = 140 kg. (308) pounds. You don’t get much flexion with that load.

If its for a commercial or movie, there is no need to have real weights on there.

It seems to me like they would want real weights in all honesty. How the hell do you ACT like you are lifting a heavy load. It seems like it would almost have to look lame. For example, for you guys that have worked cleans before, assuming you move a decent amount of weight, go just clean the bar. For whatever reason this feels very strange to me and I am sure I look much different in expression, form, etc than from moving serious weight.

A vid of Stallone (not Rocky) squatting 275, doing GHR’s with a keg overhead, and some other stuff. Looks like this was/is/might have been put together for The Contender or for Instone. Either way, Stallone does seem to bust his ass.

I’m guessing your girl left you for a Guido.

A similar phenomenon occured following the Ronnie Coleman training videos. After those videos came out, I saw a lot of guys training like that for quite awhile. It was pretty funny.

I never thought for a minute that these were real weights. Can’t wait to see the film though.

All of you are so stupid. Rocky has been training extremely hard the last year so he could specifically split jerk 315 for the movie. Sometimes I wonder about some of you. Here he is in his last competition.

(PGA your such a f*cking slacker as of late)

I don’t know if this has been said yet, but whether or not Stallone can jerk 315, he is not lifting real weights in the movie. No one lifts real weights in movies. The reason behind it being this: many directors take upwards of 10 takes of a scene, some like David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en) regularly shoot more than 30 takes of each scene.

Even if the lifter was able to get a 10 reps with a 315 Jerk, it would begin to be tough to even get a single rep after doing 30 takes of a scene. No matter how strong they are in real life, in the movies for safety reasons and for the sake of the filming, the actors use fake weights.

Hope this settles any more debating about this topic.

WTF? Was he doing some kind of snatch with bands??

Saw this thread in passing.

hate to break it to you, all of the gym shots were filmed at my old powerlifting gym in southern california. and they are all fake plates. all of them, even the dumbells. They brought in all prop dumbells and weighted plates.

It was quite funny when I came and my friends were repping out 315 in standing military presses.

Some of the powerlifters in my gym actually have shots in the moveis and were used as extras.

Geez, that simply isn’t true. They just consider it a part of their German High Volume training and log it accordingly in their workout journal.

Doesn’t anybody know anything. :frowning:
