Hey Mike,
What can I do for abs besides crunches?
I am still confined to RICE therapy for my leg(see pg 2 of this thread).

Hey Mike, it’s Tuesday.
Brotz,
Here are the answers to your questions.
Yes, the NNM program is ideal for working out imbalances prior to getting into heavy programs. I like to leave a rep in the bank most of the time.
For an off-season workout, you can’t beat my “Designer Athletes” program featured previously here at T-Nation. You can swap some of the stuff like lunges/single leg stuff for lateral lunges, angle lunges, etc. if you want to make it a little more sport specific. I believe I covered in-season training modifications previously in this post. For all baseball players, though, I put a priority on strengthening the external rotators of the shoulder, as well as the retractors/depressors of the scapulae.
I don’t have a predetermined volume that I prescribe, simply because everyone is different and can tolerate different workloads. This one is truly dependent upon the individual.
For cutting, again this is dependent upon the athlete, their current training phase, their training goals, their nutritional program, and their work capacity to name a few. I like Eric’s “Cardio Confusion” piece, as well as Carl and I’s “Superior Circuit” because I think high intensity cardio for baseball players is highly overrated. Low intensity cardio, intelligent weight training and sound, no BS nutritional strategies should melt the fat off your body in no time. If you aren’t eating correctly, though, you’re wasting your time.
Hope this helps!

I wrote an entire piece on this topic, it’s entitled “21st Century Core Training.”
This would be a great focal point given your injury. If I’m correct, you’re a powerlifter, and powerlifters need huge amounts of core strength to move max weights. This could help you tremendously when you return to the heavy iron.

You know it, and I’m on and ready for your questions.
To get some dialogue going, here’s what I’ve done today:

When you say you wrote that article, does that mean that it’s somewhere in the T-Nation archives, or that it’s soon to be released? The search option doesn’t work for me and I’d definitely like to check that one out. Thanks.
Yeah, it was featured previously here at T-Nation. For some reason, though, it’s under Ian King’s name. Not sure why, but you should be able to look under “Authors” and find it.
