Outlawing cars altogether would eliminate the risk.

Require everyone to travel 85mph on highways.
After all, it’s not the speed but the differential in speeds that is the cause for some accidents.
In fact, I’m going to start a “Drive 85, Save a Life” campaign.
The IL legislature recently doubled speeding fines in work zones, ostensibly to keep construction workers safe (apparently there were no children whose safety they could appeal to).
It turns out in the last 10 years, there has been 1 death due to traffic hitting a construction worker on the highway. The rest of the deaths were due to workers getting hit by construction equipment on the site.
It’s not to keep construction workers safe, it’s to raise revenue for the state.

He was going 50, I was going 70, an accident ensued. What caused the accident?
An increase in speed also increases the stopping distance, effects the vehicles handling, and increases the damage/injury upon a collision. Speed is a significant factor in collisions.

So is not having german breaks/suspension and a perfectly balanced car. When you do have them you can stop quicker and avoid collisions better. Do you think that the result in the video in the OP would have happened if he were driving an M3? Maybe we should mandate everyone drive german sport sedans to save lives.

How many non-construction worker deaths were there in construction zones? Accidents are more likely to occur in a construction zone because of changes in road condition/quality, narrower lanes, distractions, and debris. This is why fines are increased and speed limits reduced in these areas.

That would be great, but not everyone can afford an M3, but everyone can read a sign and make sure their speedometer needle stays nice and close to the number on the sign.
If you want, I can bring up a bunch of pics/videos of high performance cars involved in accidents.

Next you are going to tell me you want to ban driving under the influence too. Sheesh.

Guilty!
On that topic, I feel people don’t understand how wasted you have to be to have a BAC over 0.08. It’s far from 2-3 drinks unless you slammed back a few shots and went right to your car.

95% of the “construction zones” are nothing more than orange barrels on the side of the road, with a 45-50mph speed, double fines, and some half asleep pig who has tickets pre-written. MONEY MONEY MONEY

Ha! .08 is just getting warmed up! I’ve hit 4x that and still remembered it the next day.

Haha, yea there are always exceptions to the rule.
Out of curiosity, did you blow on one of the machines at the bar, or a calibrated device or instrument used by the police?

Blood draw at a hospital. I was just joking with the bravado. My second dui was at .32. I’ve even heard a few people claim mid fours, but they didn’t actually remember it.

Tsk tsk. Let’s keep it American. Tesla MS handles better than the foreign sedan and thus even less likely to be involved in a wreck. Of course if it is in an accident it’s the safest car available.
Everyone should be required to buy a Tesla. That is the Obama way after all.

I was looking to see on Pangloss’s ticket what vehicle he was driving but didn’t see it.

Lol, of course not and no I don’t think it’s the commuters job to enforce the law (as Rattlehead) said).
I just find it funny that people get so bent out of shape when someone is doing the speed limit in the left lane. When you break it down people are angry because someone, following the law, is inhibiting them from breaking it.

I saw a Tesla S in the parking lot the other day, its a sharp car.
That said, my American car choice would probably be a caddie or convertible Camero with the supercharged 6.2 litre. I had a ride in a supercharged CTS-V the other day. Wow. That thing got up to 120 in a hurry. I would have liked to see what she could do on the highway.

Not quite. In Kentucky you’d be breaking the law by not keeping right. ![]()
