Im confused. When I driving on the NJ Turnpike for instance, I am generally in the left lane, generally if traffic allows am going 80mph, but if some dick is on my ass when I am going 80 in a 65, I am supposed to move over for him?
If he is trying to go 90, and youre going 80… Exactly who is being the “dick” in this instance?
He is hence me calling the imaginary driver a dick. I would be the dick if I was going the speed limit or slower in the left lane. Going 80 in a 65 is not camping out. Especially when the road I speak of has troopers everywhere.

Why wouldn’t you move over? It’s a passing lane. Just because you are driving above the speed limit doesn’t mean you are suddenly exempt from that. Does it wound your pride that there are people who drive faster than you? I really can’t understand what you are taking issue with here.

Never thought of it as a pride issue at all. If I’m going at a fast pace within what other motorists are doing I feel he needs to make his own way. If my pride was going to be hurt because of this I’d probably go faster and not maintain my speed

Are you referring to me?

Well fuck me…I always like to consider myself a person Who can admit when I’m wrong. Sooooo after doing some Google research…I am being a dick by staying in the left lane. I seriously plead ignorance… I will now always move over.

I would. Like in the example above when I thought I was getting pulled over. I was getting out of the lane at 80ish so the guy could pass me at what ever- which is why I didn’t see the cop till he hit the lights.

The guy going faster is the bigger fish to fry. The other thing is, if I’m going as fast as I feel safe going and someone else wants to go faster, by all means I let’em get as far from me as quickly as possible.

Very commendable to be able to admit you were wrong!

FML.

I knew - KNEW - I should not have posted in this thread.

I’m holding AliveAgain36, TNation, and each one of you fuckers personally responsible for my bad judgement.

Your absolutely right

$1500? Holy fuck.

Did they stick you with a misdemeanor for going more than 30 mph over or something?

$1,500 is the bond.

I have to show up in court since it’s occurred in a construction zone.

Minimum fine is $375.

Agreed, we all have blinders sometimes, so good on you, Matty.

the whole construction zone thing is such bullshit, especially when nobody is there working. good luck with court.

I was being stupid.

I had my Valentine 1 on the floor next to me, just didn’t bother plugging it in. And, I kept my speed up through the construction zone because there are no shoulders for a trooper to stop on and try and use stationary radar.

I came up on this trooper in an unmarked car and reduced my speed to match his about 200 feet before I was going to pass him because I saw his municipal plate. He slowed way down, pulled behind me and pulled me over.

Dumb.

they should stop being called troopers/police officers and just call them what they are. Revenue collectors.

I need to take heed. I’ve been playing fast and loose with my speeding-tax luck lately. Its hard to go from a 9000 pound diesel to that little Audi and not try and make up a little time on the road.

When I was in my MB, I really didn’t have any sensation of speed. Everything was quiet and smooth, then I would look down and be doing 90.

This particular commute is 85 miles, all on highways. I’ve made it twice a week for 10 years - each time doing 80 - 90 mph - and this is only my second ticket. TBH, this was well-earned and I was probably due.

What is bullshit about speed limit reductions and fine increases in a specific area where road conditions are worsened and people are at risk?

Their job is to enforce the law and most traffic penalties are dealt with by fines. What do you think should be done to prevent motor vehicle related deaths?
