I think you are spot on mate, it makes sense. The fat gain so far has been minimal, though I’d have much preferred to start at a lower bodyfat %. Think I’m gonna press on with the bulk, while trying to keep fat gains down. Still going to keep doing light cardio sessions for fitness and eat at a surplus. I hope you stick around here till next year. Your advice on diet and cutting is elite level, as your pictures show. I think you are a very valuable member on T nation and just a really dead on stand up guy in general.
Edit: why does my reply to comments never bloody work lol. I always have to revert to @jackolee . Could you possibly know @Chris_Colucci ? is it my browser possibly ?
Appreciate the kind words buddy! I wish I would have found these forums earlier. I have immensely enjoyed reading, learning, encouraging, and recieving the same. Cheers man
That just reminded me… I didn’t get round to cooking this weekend. Me and the missus had a night out instead at an Indian place. I am going to cook me up a good steak next week sometime.
I used to live in England (just for a year), and despite being in NY for most of my life, where you can get any cuisine imaginable, I’ll never forget the Indian food in the UK. Had a friend whose parents owned an Indian restaurant, and it was the ultimate spot to be after a night of pints and other recreational activities.
What part of England was it ? I’m across the water in N.Ireland . The wee place we use is top notch for grub.
Doesn’t look much from the outside but it’s very fancy indoors. The staff are exceptional, get treated like royalty. I laughed there when u mentioned - other recreational activities lol
I’ll say this: I went to a party-heavy high school. I lived in england when I was 13, in Bristol, and I regularly visited my friends there throughout high school. British kids were a whole new level of wild. I saw people consume amounts of drugs that should have been immediately fatal.
sounds like you had a good time of it anyway. I have 3 friends now passed through drug abuse. I’m lucky I got out or I could have been on that list. One died in another mates flat. I will never forget that night, the picture of him in the ambulance, his lips blue and not breathing. The gym is the way forward.
My county in NY was hit with an epidemic of opiates - 9 people from my graduating class were dead from ODs by my 10 year reunion. The gym is my addiction now. I don’t know how healthy it is to refer to it that way, but I have no illusions about the fact that it’s just a replacement for all the shit I was doing to my body previously. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

190lbs this morning. All going good. I have stopped counting reps… Its just a number. I’m using mostly a pyramid method of light to heavy and back to light on the weight, pushing to failure each set. End with a progress picture.
Before bed meal 250g basmati rice , 200g mixed meat ( beef / turkey ) mixed spices.
No veg, already had a bucket load today. Fish is now off my menu, even the thought of it is making me boke.
Salmon is brutal man… yuk. I was eating mackerel there but every bite was a load of bones, It says boneless on the packet. How much would you spend a week on steak ?
Hmm not sure tbh but at least 1.5kg of steak maybe as much as 2.5kg. Depending on where I source it from 30-100 AUD. Ain’t cheap but I’m loving it. Really living to enjoy the little things. We eat 3 times or more a day may as well make it a super pleasurable experience
Well that’s true, the more luxury the more pleasure. Have to find something to replace the fish now. I could add me some steak in there maybe 3 out of the 6 dinners per week and some chicken the other nights.
I think if I worked it out as a source of protein whey protein powder would come out as most cost efficient. I got a few kilos in the fridge and will hit a double scoop on days that I don’t get in enough food overall but I don’t exactly trust it if you know what I mean. Like if all my protein came from shakes is it really the same gains or close as regular food?
Definitely not better than real food. I use 2 scoops powder post workout and that’s it. Like you say it’s good to add in on days you didn’t hit enough protein, or adding a scoop to flavour other things like oats, yoghurt etc. I actually use it as a flavour mostly, plus it does get another 50g protein per day for 2 scoops. Nothing beats real quality food sources
I have four scoops daily. But not as meal replacements. I use them in between meals. Two reasons: 1 - Gives me both a quick digesting source of protein along with the slower Whole Foods I consume. This is good for first thing in the morning and also pre and post workout. 2. If I eat six meals 2-3,hrs apart and shakes in between it keeps the fire burning hot all day. When my contest is over though I’m going a whole week with none! I’m so tired of chocolate whey
