Thank you. She was the 7th and 8th grade English teacher here for 48 years! Packed house. Had to walk WAY farther than I wanted in the shoes!

Things are starting to “wake up”. Wanted to go heavier on everything but, I know better. I am too old to wreck myself right off the bat.

On a side note. There are bees all over my chicken feed. I have NEVER seen this before. Not sure what I can do to make them go away. I don’t think they are regular honeybees. They are very dark colored. I am concerned.

If they are carpenter bees they are fun to swat with a badminton racket, if they are hornets, I don’t recommend the racket. :joy:

I prefer not to get stung by either  bees make me swell up big time, may be better off with the hornets.

I risk life and limb to get this video. Afraid one is going to fly up the leg of my workout shorts

I guess they are just honeybees but I still don’t like it! Not one bit! :scream:

Edit: the county ag extension agent has never heard if this happening either. The only thing we can think of is that it’s too dry and too warm. There is nothing else for them to eat. I made them so sugar water to see if they will go to that instead. She said to put some kind of strong smelling essential oil around the feeder. I tried but by the time I got back down there the number of bees had tripled! You couldn’t even see the feed they were so thick. I will have to do that after they go night, night.

Play the long game, for sure.

Just went down to the gym for my 30 mins of happiness. I have to keep reminding myself that this last year has been HARD! I do NOT have to program a bunch of specific stuff. For now just have fun and do something. It will be okay.

Band lunges
Crab walks
Band arm press thingys
Rings
Upside down Bosu into 3rd world hold
Getting up and down off the floor with no hands
Blah,blah,blah

FYI: tea tree oil does not keep beez from chicken feed. Nor do they want sugar water yet. Imma gonna to talk wildlife biologist friend today to see if he has any advice.

A couple of circuits of band work and jumping around like an idiot. Off to the garden! I have vegetables to plant, electric fence to put up, and to get the tiller running!

It is still winter!?

83°F today. We have a cold front coming this weekend but nothing major. It’s never impossible to have some more cold weather but unlikely it will last long. If you want cool crop veggies you better get them in pretty quick.

I have probably 10-12" of base snow at this point, with a storm coming tonight forecast to bring 5-8" more. Which is okay, I like snow. It’s so hard to relate to someone putting veggies in the ground right now, though. It’s 17° out there right now.

My son is planning a trip up from Pittsburgh. Our birthdays are a day apart in late April, and yesterday I sent him pics from last year, taken a week apart so he can decide if that’s the weather he wants. In the first I’m bundled up, wearing a hat and my ski mittens hiking, in the second we’re in short sleeves and dresses (bare legs). But there are no bugs then.

It’s definitely too early for stuff like tomatoes and squash etc… but not for onions potatoes, radishes, turnips, beets etc…
If you wait too long here it will get too hot and they will rot in the ground.
Of course this is Texas and anything can happen. We could have another ice apocalypse ya never know.

When I moved here from TX I flipped weather extremes - planting day (tomatoes) was March 18 in DFW, here it’s Memorial Day, which is crazy. We exchanged 6 months of brutal summer for 6 months of hard winter. I’m satisfied with the exchange, by and large.

I’m completely jealous; that’s exactly the winter weather I’ve craved for, oh, 40-plus years. First step: escape the Land of Entrapment (New Mexico’s state nickname is “Land of Enchantment”, but we natives call it what it is.)

You do have good Mexican food, though!
