Shit was all willy-nilly this morning. Bettwr luck next time!
How much do you play with your bench set up; like getting really tight and locking your shoulder blades in?
Enough to know it’s hopeless!
Optimism! I love it.
Well, when I started my first log on this forum I could only bench 45lbs. So I have added 50lbs to my bench in two years. Taking into account my near death experience last year, I think I’m doing aight! A friend as helped me work on the set up. Pull yourself up, pinch the shoulders together, stay tight, keep the chest up, dig in with your heels, use the leg drive. So, what it all boils down to is… I am simply not strong enough YET!
Despite my sarcasm, I feel I am very close to breaking this plateau.
If you’re really tight through your core, butt, legs - everything tight, tight, tight… you can’t lift your butt up. It will feel glued down.
This was a deal with me, too. I really arch and use leg drive so if I’m not tight, tight, tight my butt is going to come up when the lift gets heavy. I’ve fixed it now, and you will too. I can see it as the bar descends. You look relaxed there, and that’s why the bar is coming down sooo fast, and it’s why you’re moving on the bench. I suspect you’re tight as you unrack, but you relax your form as the bar descends, then you attempt to get really tight when you press.
This!! That’s awesome. So much fun, right? BTW, I can’t believe you’re only an inch taller than me. I see your arms and think you have to be 5’8". You’re limbs remind me of kpsnap. That BB has a lot further to travel for you. Haha. Yes, you have a bigger bench there.
CL, when Sturat was coaching my bench this past year, he was telling me that I wasn’t tight. I felt tight, so it was frustrating. Really squeeze your glutes next time and see if that helps. I think I was so focused on my upper back being a platform, tight back and shoulders being tight, and pulling the bar down, activating my pecs, etc… that I’d forget to tighten up my glutes. Everything is tight, tight, tight. If your butt is tight, it can’t move off that bench.
Thank you! And yes, my wingspan is wider than I am tall. Freak of nature…lol My dad’s fault!
I am just happy it wasn’t a 10 minute grinder!
I will work on keeping the core tight. Thank you for your help!
I understand this, I will just have to keep at until I get it.
And thanks to you I am pretty decent at the inverted rows also. Or at least I don’t think I’m going to die…lol

My phone started blowing up at 4am due to the weather. Flash flood warning!!! from what? A half inch of rain! That shit right there is why people don’t pay attention to it and end up dying!
Today would have been my sister’s 60th birthday. No one ever closed her Facebook account so people are telling her Happy Birthday! Ugh! Not sure how my mom is going to take that. ![]()
Live to fight another day!
Live to fight another day is RIGHT! I send you showers of good positive vibes!!! You’re a tough cookie Chicken!!!

Since I missed the deadline for entry to the meet, I’m just going to take some time to work on getting my “gym” fixed up. Surely I can do better! I need to get rid of a bunch of junk.
Last month I did the 22 push up challenge and made it almost to end before I wrecked my shoulder doing dips. This month’s challenge will be inverted rows with rings. 25 a day. Hopefully by the end of the month I will get all 25 in one set. By the 5th set it was getting sloppy.
Depth looked good on both!
The 165 was iffy. I’ll get it, eventually.
