Rising From the Ashes (CL)

That might help if your quad dominant. Otherwise, it’s probably not worth pursuing. I intend to just keep pulling for a big pull.

Thank you Mort. This is the video I have used to get started too. I’m sure the couple of young ladies at the gym Sunday thought I was nuts when I was saying to myself… knees, hips, knees, pull yourself under the bar. Lol
I don’t feel too bad though. They couldn’t even figure out how to turn the lights in free weight room, and one was training the other…uhm… I don’t think that’s how you teach somebody to squat. I kept my mouth shut.

From the squat videos I have shared @hardartery says I need to work on my hammies and glutes. That’s where my weakness is in my squat. He also suggested OH squats for my shoulders. So all that is cooking in the back of my mind.

Those are all great endeavors, but the why is the most important. Why would you do any of those things?

I wouldn’t use overhead squats to help my shoulders , but that’s a personal preference.

I have a pretty sad squat, but my deadlift is getting there. I guess you could say I’m proof that one may not have much of an impact on the other.

That’s funny I was only thinking last night how squat is my main focus right now and it is really starting to improve. The funny part is while it improves deadlift seems to be coming along for the ride. Maybe this only works one way round and not the other

Maybe that’s why the back squat is usually the reference lift from which other strength ratios are defined and not the deadlift.

Ooookay… today was a shit show. I took the car to get an alignment. It is wearing the back tires unevenly. The guy comes in and says… he can’t align the front because it needs parts. (The front tires are fine, it doesn’t pull, and there isn’t any slack in the steering) It needs a wheel bearing and and all new tie rods and stuff. He says but the back is adjustable. I tell him don’t worry about the front and just align the back. 15 mins later the back isn’t adjustable because it’s wore out too. I’m thinking…Just WTF wore out in the last 15 mins? Now it needs all new struts, tires and brakes. Uhm… yeah. I don’t think so. I was born at night but damn sure wasn’t last night.
Nevermind I will fix it myself… lying bastards!!!

Anyway… I went across and had my tire guy dismount and remount the tires to get a few more miles out of them. His station is right next to the gym so I went over and tried some the shoulder stuff in Meadows videos.

The gym doesn’t have a reverse pec dec so I tried some cable rear delt raises, once I greased everything up. Definitely built a fire.
Tried the cable front raises starting with arm behind the body and my left shoulder didn’t like that so much.
Tried straight up front cable raises and this was better.
Heavy partials lateral raises not so much.
Tried the lying lateral raise and this was the one he said would take the traps out of the movement. I must have done them wrong because my traps were the only thing I felt working.
Seated smith machine press, felt this mostly in upper chest just under my collar bone.

I every time I get on one of these delt binges I end up getting things aggravated and achy. I think I am just going to have to swallow my pride and start over from the ground up.

Oh and I forgot to mention the visit I had with my lady that has Parkinson’s who has hallucinations and thinks there is a troup of circus performers living down the hall in the nursing home.
I assured her I had not seen a “small person” or gypsy all day.

Then another one of my peeps is having surgery today because he has
an infection in his spine from the surgery they done last fall.

That is a helluva a day, impressed you got a lifting session in!

What do you do for work, if you don’t mind me asking?

Well, it’s complicated. I don’t actually have a job. I am a helper. My peeps are mostly elderly people who just need somebody to help them do the things they used to be able to do themselves. House needs cleaned? Grass needs mowed? Lawnmower won’t run? Need a battery or tires on your car? Bats in garage? Snake in your lily pad pond? Need a grave for your dead cat? Gophers in your yard? Have you fallen and can’t get up? Can’t open the safety seals on your meds? Nerve block removed from your leg? Call me! I will help you get it done. Craziest shit ever.
Yep! This is THE craziest shit ever!

Try going silly light and doing a ton of reps. Sometimes I close my eyes and think about pushing the top of my delt up against something instead of raising my arm.

As to the rest - you’re a cool lady!

That was silly light. The cable machine there is not great, so I had to lay on the floor. Maybe I just wasn’t able to bring my arms down low enough. It was a bad day and I was screwing around to get a feel for things so… Next time I’ll drag a bench in from the free weight room.

Lol! That’s not what most people would call it… but they all tell they can’t make it without me, and all their kids thank you for doing the stuff they don’t have time to do. So I am grateful.

I think it depends on how you’re built.

As for @ChickenLittle’s day, that sounds like a lot to handle. Good call at the tire place.

That’s an excellent video. Maybe I will try to learn to do real cleans, instead of whatever bullshit I do to muscle the weight up.

This could definitely be it. I think the line of pull would be very weird. You will probably need to play with the incline to get what you want.

Good luck! It’s hard to “feel” a muscle the first few times, but once you get it, you nail it.

Meadows seems to be the coach of the hour at the minute. He seems to teach big basics, whichbis a welcome break (for me) from the CTs and PCs of this world.

I agree on the CT front but PCs stuff is pretty no nonesense, That’s the reason I like his stuff. Meadows is awesome, I like Hypertrophy Coach and Eugene Teo too, worth checking them out if you haven’t already. That group are mostly on the same lines in terms of volume, frequency, intensity and bio mechanics.

I’m not arguing that any of them are wrong, they just don’t appeal to me.

You know my fave is 5/3/1 but I need to get out of that rut and try different things. Goal is always strength first.

My thoughts are to break things up in 4-6 week blocks all year. Example:
6 weeks to focus on DL
6 on squat (like mms)
6 for strongman stuff just to have fun
Etc

So I can keep at it without getting distracted.

I’m doing similar. Trying to get some non-531 tools for my toolbox and trying to periodise my training better so I’m not failing at everything all at once.

I’m still mad at PC about the deadlift comment…lol
I like some of his earlier stuff though, right now he seems to have a God complex. Like his shit don’t stink.
