Yeah i really need to improve my technique. The only issue i have though is the 50kg stone is tiny and since heavier stones are alot bigger the technique on the 50kg stone wont really apply. I also think since its smaller its harder to grip like more slippery if that makes sense? I’ve tried a way heavier stone and it felt easier to grip.
What @T3hPwnisher said haha. I have only had one comp with stones and it was a set weight(240 or 250lbs) for reps so leading up to it I just worked up to that weight during my event days and just tried to do more reps than the previous week. Also I didnt have tacky, wish I did, its hyuge.
Would at least be 300+ If it’s like a natural stone 275 can get challenging, but Atlas stones allow enough technique that you either really gotta push the diameter or the weight up to get the challenge. Or make it a VERY high loading height.
Todays training
Yeah still sick as. Was overheated as hell but eh didnt seem to affect strength much just energy.
warmup
Band stuff
Reverse hypers
Talking to some random guy. Im getting to know alot of people at this gym which is cool. Lots of cool people. people just see me and say “you’re duke, I’ve heard about you, you’re doing strongman” lol i think its because I’m 16 or something.
SSB squats
Widened stance. Hit hammies alot more which is good so keeping it that way
yoke
160×15 metres pr
Moved around a shit tonne because was trying the back squat position on the yoke just to give it another go. Definitely not doing it again.
Felt like had alot more in the tank but technique is poor so didn’t go heavier
atlas stones
30 minutes with the 50kg stone. Technique work. Got a funny vid where i put atlas stone over the bar and it rolled into the tire that was against the wall, tire fell down with atlas stone in the middle. +3 pointer lol. Accidentally deleted vid though
reverse hyper
3×10 10kg Adding more weight. Forgot to do planks
I’d strongly advice gripping the outside bars of the yoke instead of the crossbar. More stability usually and less risk if things go wrong, at least that’s what I imagine.
Making good progress. One thing I see, only because I was guilty of the same thing myself, is that your feet are pretty far apart, like almost squat stance. That’s great for picking up the yoke, not so good for walking with it. If you pick it up with feet close together, walking will be a lot more stable, less swaying from side to side as your weight shifts. I noticed that toward the end of the walk your feet were coming closer together, but at the beginning there was definitely a lot of side to side swaying.
Swaying is what i want to avoid so I’ll bring my feet in closer. I’m actually not as worried about my yoke as i thought I’d be. I think with practice it will really shoot up. Especially since it’s my second time doing yoke.
Lots of muscles feeling super tight and my foam rollers broken. walked to the gym and did foam rolling and then bar hangs for loosening up my back which worked good. Then walked back home
Deload day 1
Warmup:
Lat pulldowns, lat pulldown scapular retraction thingies, foam rolling, lazy lifter
Axle press
5×3 @50% so light so form was off alot. My form tends to be alot better on heavier weights vs light weights. Tried wrist wraps for one set and they felt dumb but im probably putting them on wrong.
Talked to mate for 40 minutes
Continued workout
Hammer curls superset pressdowns 3×40 for elbow health
Its pretty cool! like even olu from neversate follows me. I need to get a phone with a better camera though
My plan is to become an instagram god and get sponsored or something.
in the future motherfuckers will know who duketheslaya is. First i want to win states strongman in WA, then win Arnolds and Australias strongest man then compete in worlds strongest man. Next year in my first novice comp, they’re going to doubt me, and think oh look its a kid what can he do. I’m going to show them what a real young dude can bring to the table
