Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

Thanks man! I probably could have done more if it wasnt after deadlifts. Probs like 5-10kg though and wouldve been a big grind

Hey Young Duke
Awesome work and PR’s on the DL.
Really glad you’re beginning to find the groove.

Oh and great front squat too.
I don’t know if it’s right but front squat is a great assistance exercise for DL (and back squat of course).

Yeah I’m glad too! Obviously alot to improve on but im happy with the progress been made.

I think it would be. Front squats are great! Alot of carryover to strongman which is why i do them. Thanks man

Great front squat mate, well done of the PR! :+1:

Cheers @I_Luc

Okay so extremely sick today. Dont know if I’ll be able to train tomorrow (hopefully). Still forced myself to eat even though every mouthful i nearly throw up. I think im going to chuck up and feel better though (usually happens and relieves my headache). I was feeling sick monday and tuesday but not sick enough to skip the gym. Now i am :frowning_with_open_mouth:

What the heck? Yesterday i felt extremely sick and hardly slept through the night. Woke up every hour last night. Now i feel alot better though. I think i might train today. Headaches gone and theres no throwing up or feeling real shit. Feel like im running on 60% whereas yesterday it was 0 %

@strongmanbrett @strongmanvinny2 @Koestrizer @flipcollar @T3hPwnisher @theonecamko how do you guys program atlas stones. E.g sets/reps/height/%?. I wanted to start doing stones weekly because its my weakest event. I have no clue how to program it

Sadly I don’t have stones. It is a very weak event for me.

Damn

Todays training
Death by bench. Probably shouldnt have trained. Although i wasnt as sick as yesterday, yesterday drained the hell out of me and last night.

warmup
Facepulls,latpulldown, reverse hypers

Close grip bench

Worked up to a top set 65×6 PR
As i was reracking the bar i blacked out for a couple of seconds and so one bit of the bar was racked and the other fell down. Luckily it was half racked and i have the safety thingies.

pendlay row
Never done these( actually like a couple of times lastyear) these felt awesome for my lats and whole back in general and therapeutic on the lower back @danteism

60 ×8 pr
×6
×5

Facepulls
3×20

Cut out all accessories apart from facepulls. Just wanted to get the work in. I probably should have stayed home and rested…

Ive only done stones twice and my best is a 50kg stone ×8. In wa all the novice comps they expect you to be relatively strong. I’ve checked out alot of novice comp weights and minimum atlas stone I’ll need to be able to do is 100kg for reps. So i have until april next year to get it up before my first comp

It depends on what sort of event I have coming up. For my last one, I used a static height and worked up to a daily max single or triple and then did a backoff set for AMRAP. Right now, I am doing fixed height and weight. I established a baseline of 15 reps in about 9 min, so now I am eithee going to get in more reps in 9 min or do 15 reps in less than 9 min.

I have a comp next year in april ( first strongman comp of the year) and all i know is i need to get my stone up to at least 100kg for reps. So i have a lot of time.

that was beast, big lift!

Was the 50kg with tacky? If not, it makes a pretty big difference.

Nope i don’t have tacky

It’s pretty much night and day when you put it on. You’ll be able to move much heavier weight when you can stick to the stone.

I was using a stone of steel in training for my last competition and the most I managed was with 100lbs loaded in, which is somewhere around 240lbs or so. In competition, I hit a 275lb atlas stone with tacky and the only real issue I ran into was I put on too much and got stuck to the stone, so I wasn’t able to adjust as easily between the lap and the load.

Make sure to get some before the competition. Until then, if you keep getting stronger in general, you should get stronger on the stones.

Thats good. Thanks for telling me that btw. I had no clue about tacky. I just thought it was like chalk for atlas stones

Damm dude. Thats some heavy ass stones.

Yeah I’ll make sure to get some tacky.

Eh, not for my weight class. It was about 25lbs less than advertised, but things always change on competition day. But yeah, tacky is vastly different from chalk. You literally stick to the stone, which makes a huge difference trying to move a slippery spherical object.

Your technique can be pretty trash with tacky, as it makes up for a lot of issues. I actually ran into that specific issue, as the only time I ever lifted stones was in competition, which meant I had tacky, so I never learned how to be good at it. Getting a stone of steel and training it without tacky/tacky towel forced me to improve my technique.
