Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

I love at the start where it tells scott hermann to shut the fuck up :joy:

Does UWA do Bachelor of Exercise Science? They’ve got one of the best medical schools in the nation and biomechanics doesn’t fall too far from that tree

They do sports science i think. However it’s alot different to exercise science ( strength and conditioning). not really what I’m after.

Ah fair enough

BJJ day
a bunch of weird warmups ( they helped later, surprise surprise it was actually teaching stuff).

all the stuff we did today: i don’t know how to explain most and still don’t understand it but that will come in time. please bear with me haha.

working on Judo throw To take down to Side control.

Rear naked choke ( these aren’t pleasant, if you don’t tap out you’l be out in less than a second.)

Back control

Hooks

Shrimping- this was The backwards shrimp where you move your hips away.

Forward rolls

Back rolls

Pummeling

Wrestling ten minutes. my favourite part! my partner for the whole session (same as last week) is this 13 year old, three years younger than me, dudes similar weight, bigger framed and bulky ( his wrists are like 50% bigger than mine)and never lifted. jesus i’m glad he’s not a few years older.

got a few chokes on each other and yeah. he’s new to MMA like me and seems to pick up technique alot quicker haha. i choked him out a few more times due to being stronger but if he keeps up his learning abilities i’ll be getting submitted alot more and lose. he’s a tank!

I swear every few weeks the stupid threads die down, then more just pop up again haha.

I used to do BJJ for a couple of years back in my teens. I remember the first time I sparred with a girl that was state champion I had to concentrate soooooo hard not to get an erection when she pulled me in the guard position. LOL!

It’s always the same dude, too. I love getting into with him. It’s arguing with someone who has the ego of a PhD and the knowledge of someone who reads half of a BB.com article every two weeks lol

Cool you’re into BJJ man. I just got into it too! It’s so awesome, there’s no outlet quite like rolling.

Yep! BJJ is pretty cool. How are you finding it? Its more complex than i thoight it would be haha. I’m hopefully going to be able to do 1 on 1 sessions with the coach soon. He said he’s busy for the next month but after that he’l consider training me.

My favourite combat sport next to BJJ would have to be boxing.

I’m loving it. It is indeed very difficult though, & the conditioning needed is on another level (we go 6 minute rounds and I am just gasping after lol). I’m one of the strongest, if not the strongest in the class but I don’t have the technique developed to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise. I’m getting better for sure & have more tools than I did when I started, which is a great feeling!

Boxing is pretty sweet, we did boxing & slap boxing a ton back in High School.

I have my bachelor’s in Exercise Science. It’s great stuff but it’s only text book stuff. Stick around here and see what works in the real world without a lab and then combine it with the theories and science backed evidence from the text books. I’ve learned as much, if not more, here and at the gym as I did in the classroom. The science behind this stuff made sense of things I’d observed on my own. I think the biggest thing I learned was the different energy systems, how they work, and how to train them.

One thing I’ll warn you about though—make sure there’s a career out there for you! Even though the cost of living is great here, this area doesn’t support strength and conditioning… and that’s why I found my way into law enforcement instead of coaching like I’d hoped. My dream job still doesn’t exist here but I’m considering finding alternative paths. The first one is to start something within my Department to train officers. The second requires me to go back to school to get a Physical Education degree. I have no desire to teach in the classroom. I just want to live in the gym and weight room and work with high school kids. High school is the ideal setting here. It’s free to the kids, I can make decent money, and the kids are at very impressionable stages of life. Learning to do things right a that age could make or break their college aspirations or just set them up for a life of general health and fitness.

But for now I’m stuck dreaming of what could be with my job and living vicariously through my wife. She’s a PE teacher and has a weight lifting class. I think she teaches three classes a day and they alternate odd and even days, so she has six classes total. I would want six weight lifting classes organized by skill level. Intro to weights, intermediate, and advanced… Dreams though.. just dreams. LOL

I’m glad you’re enjoying it man! The conditioning is intense alright, i nearly threw up last session. (Probably because of the forward and back rolls but still)

You’re hell strong so once you develop technique, you’ll be a beast

A mixture of hands on + text book experience is better than just one or the other, thats a definite! Did you enjoy the course?

That is really unfortunate man :frowning_with_open_mouth:. That would be awesome if you could be a coach! I wish i could’ve had weight lifting class at school when i first started high school.

About an hour and ten minutes from where i am there’s Perth ( Capital of WA) with a population of 2 million. Id hope I’ll be right for job opportunities. There better be lots of jobs available for a population of 2 million!!

Bad news/Rant

The good news is… theres none

The bad news is i went to sign up at the gym today and the owner rejected me because you have to be 18+ To go by yourself unless you have supervision. For fuck sake… tbh just want to go back to perth where i could go to the gym with no issues and i had my best mate and lots of family and lots of things to do, lots of life opportunities…

i have no idea how im going to get back to perth because i need to go to uni there and also study for my cert 4 in fitness and become a personal trainer… Stuff being here. In perth i could go out with the boys #YTB or go to a chicks house or invite them over and have a good time or do whatever, or go to the beach or order a pizza or play with my little cousins and life was good, and now im stuck in boarding school where i cant do fuck all and can’t do shit.

I spent like three hours writing up the danteism program and studying it and choosing all my lifts and assistance work and wrote out a training guide.i was going to start lifting full time again next week. I made a gym playlist and everything i was so hyped wtf shattered :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Edit sorry for the ranting and i calmed myself down. But jesus…
