The best logs around here include more than training sets. It’s the interaction with others about life that makes this feel more personal.
The aspect of us all basically being strangers also allows us to be comfortable opening up and sharing more than usual - - whether we’re venting about life or offering advice.
I can’t imagine having the same conversations at work that I have/see here in the forums. I think writing our words out helps us filter the crap and deliver the best message. This place also allows us to be blunt with each other because we don’t have to see each other at work tomorrow.
Exactly! The logs on here that are just training posts don’t have that T-Nation feel about them ya know. Some people like keeping to themselves and thats ok.
When I was a young muskrat, I didn’t like math and thought that it wasn’t useful for anything. Now I’m studying applied math in college. It’s given me the ability to understand a lot of cool stuff, and it’s helped me both in my master’s degree and in finding a job.
As you get further up in math, it gets more useful and interesting and less annoying. Don’t despair if it’s hard for you now or you don’t like it. You will look back and be glad that you put in the effort. I’m genuinely glad that you are doing well and that you have the foresight to try your best
Thanks for the advice @muskratlifts! I definitely don’t like it mainly because i have always sucked at it. To get better you have to practice so i guess if i practice and become good I’ll like it.
It’s kind of disappointing to think i never payed much attention and just slacked off or mucked around for 10 years of school because i hated it, and how much smarter i could’ve been if i did my work.
It really isn’t that difficult, like anything school just requires effort.
In a sense, being “smart” is a skill. By learning more stuff (and by doing a lot of thinking and problem-solving), you can definitely improve your ability to think critically over time. Don’t worry; you haven’t messed up anything by goofing off. That’s part of having a life and being a kid. School can definitely be boring sometimes, but it’s worth it. In order to get better at reading and thinking, you just have to do more reading and thinking
Indeed it is an acquired skill. Like lifting weights or running if you practice you’ll get more “efficient”,unless you’re born with a higher IQ like albert einstein and you’re gifted to be smarter then 99% of the population. Still albert wouldn’t be as smart as he was if he did crack and never studied and learnt.
I could’ve gone to university straight out of school if i had’ve gotten decent grades last year. I would’ve been put in ATAR this year (I’m glad I’m not, atar kids have to do like quadruple the workload a kid in general has to do. They have no life. Fuck that!
No worries though, I’m still going to go to uni. I just have to get my Cert 4 in something and possibly do a bridging course.
And school is important, i never listened to anything people would tell me about how important getting a good education is. my response when i was 12, to people telling me that you need school was pretty much telling them to fuck off.
It’s alot harder to get a job then it was 30 years ago and things are pricey nowadays so a decent income is a must.
Its always a good time if you find a girl who can manhandle you without a problem. Also, I sucked at math for 18 years and decided to go to college for engineering and now I still suck at math haha. Only reason I get A’s is cause I put in the work, not cause im good at it. Still dont know why im an engineering student tho, math is hard.
Glad to hear it’s working out for you dude. I’ve found dedicated work on the gripper tends to last for a while. I’ll go a year or so without touching it and still be able to close a 2 for a few reps. Getting it in now will do you good.
Young man. You are doing a great job for yourself. You know you are.
You’re not quitting school like others do. You grind thru and get a grade at the end.
You know what you have to do, to get decent or actually good grades.
And you have a set mission in life.
If you stay the course and don’t stray to far off, you’ll end up having a good life.
Just stay true to yourself.
Thanks mort! i really appreciate that. i want to get my bachelors degree in exercise science (strength and conditioning) or something else, than a masters degree in exercise science.
thats the whole masters degree course, i want do it because it really interests me, and i know a guy who won the WA’s strongest man 2017 and he went to university and did something like that course. he’s strong as fuck and being that knowledgeable he knows how to get that strong. he’s also a reputable coach and he coached a few athletes at the australian arnolds this year.
i’m not genetically blessed but i have the drive to get super strong, so i’ll take what i can get. in future, i’m going to compete in strongman and hopefully compete in the arnold australia and win. also i want to work in a gym and coach strongman, powerlifters, rugby players etc or just general people.
