Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

today’s training
Just working on my imbalances so purely training my left side. Starting off real light today since I havent trained for a few weeks. Will be a while before i get back to strongman training

1×10 single arm db row
20kg

Seated db press 1×10 10kg

Single Leg press 1×10

Db romanian deadlift. No balance for single leg so have been doing single leg bodyweight but today did both legs with dumbell on left side to isolate left glute hamstring and erectors more.
1×10 20kg

Conditioning:
5 rounds ×1 minute on and off exercise bike. Going to build this up to 10 ×1 mins with 1 minute rest. Going to get lean and get a six pack whilst I’m taking a break from strongman.going to Boxing 3-4 × a week will help alot lol. Have cleaned my diet with no junk at all, only meat, fruit, nuts, greek yogurt, rice, milk and potatoes.

Purely training my left side in the gym. Gradually adding reps+ weight. I’d give it 6 months atleast before my left side catches up. My right side wont get smaller during that time, training the left side only still has an effect on the right. I cant remember what it’s called but since the whole body is wired together it still stimulates it or something. Plus I’m doing boxing at night and labour work during the day (Retic, digging trenches, Lots of twisting stuff together, and shovelling)

Just a heads up, this effect is purely neural. You may still atrophy on your right side

Oh okay, allgood. My right side is my dominant side anyway so I doubt it will atrophy much

do you have any prior boxing experience or are you just starting out?

I did mma last year for a few months but thats fuck all so id call myself starting out. Lots of work to do before my first fight, coach says hell put me in the ring for april and il fight u75kg.

mma that’s a lot of grappling right? and without them thick boxing gloves, should be a big difference to western boxing

Yeah With mma you do BJJ as well but that’s generally a separate class. MMA class usually ks striking so boxing& kickboxing.

1 min on 1 min off 6 rounds on exercise bike. Might drop this to 30 seconds on 30 off because it takes too much time.

Long post ahead!
Im really loving my job. I get to drive around and see alot of cool things and views whilst driving to houses. ive gotten to work on retic on mansions! Now that im not at school im not stressed whatsoever, I can think straighter and i feel like my mind isnt clouded anymore. I feel like my life has finally begun. For a long time i felt i couldnt access my brain like i wanted to and felt stupid alot even though im very intelligent, now i feel as if i have access to my mind and can think and learn clearly. fuck SCHOOL!!! my whole life i was super stressed and felt like absolute shit everyday at school.

Im also loving boxing and my body is healing, I feel like stress caused alot of muscle tightness i used to have as well im doing alot of mobility and stretching and its paying off.
Im eating super healthy and feeling great physically too. Im going to have 2 lifting sessions per week with one day having strongman events and i think i can get stronger whilst working on imbalances. I think lifting is important to boxing as well.

Stretching and mobility. my gym is 200 metres from the boxing gym so can go to the gym after depending on boxing days like if theres heaps of cardio then probably will be too dead to do some lifting after. Also will have my shower at the gym instead of at home to save time, i have to wait an hour for the bus after boxing finishes so will just go to the gym or lay dead on the gym couch lol

Cool to see you boxing buddy. Will get you unbelievably fit.

I used to box when I was around your age, i was a total machine and the fittest I have ever been (or will ever be again). I was fast, powerful and agressive but my one drawback…I couldn’t stop getting hit in the face! Not being hit is a massive part of it so I didnt get far!

So far i get hit alot, But i’m new so hopefully i can improve that lol. Why didnt you just work on defence more?

Yeah I worked on it a lot but it didnt come naturally. It’s like most sports really, Football for example, some people just have an instinct in front of goal, and that’s a skill that can only be taught to an extent the rest is unteachable.

In my case i was still getting hit far too easily even after a few years lol. 2 of my mates were pro so it was more of a social thing I did with them to let off some steam rather than me expecting to go far in the sport, after a while when my mate set up his own club I was there more to lead the conditioning and take people on the pads.

I decided ti start doing it because my hip is messed up and until i fix it i cant do strongman or lift properly, also to be proficient in self defence. So far im really liking it so il see where it leads

Coolio. I remember the feeling when I first started, I was pretty fit at the time from football so I thought I would be okay. After a 5k run, 40 minutes of circuits and then several rounds of pad work and then being told to go get some sparring gloves I actually thought I was going to cry!
