Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

yes, that’s what i thought too (or to?) initially. but what do i know? maybe your coach has some kind of new knowledge neither you nor i haven’t heard about but then i think it’s fair if he explained his program. or, maybe your coach use you as a guinnea pig without your consent - in that case he is a bad coach.

He should have changed the last couple of workouts you’ve had some bad workouts the last couple of weeks, maybe even more.
If you’d done the workouts and feeling great, then this wouldn’t be maxing out, it would be using the comp weights for a few non taxing reps.
You’ve been straining and that’s why you’re struggling.
Go in tomorrow and do the lifts with weights you can own.
I get the rationale behind the programming, but you where supposed to be fairly fresh by now.

Well rest up next week and get all the benefits you can reap from the meet.

Yeah that’s true

I think he recovers super fast so expects me too? Last week he deadlifted 300kg for the first time, then 2 days later front squatted 225kg in sleeves for a new pr. But I dont recover as fast lol

maybe he is on peds? then his advice would not be applicable to someone who isn’t.

Nah hes not. Hes been lifting 8 years, and before that ppayed rugby/sports. Also very good genetics lol

Todays traininh
Yoke
160,190,225,260,285kg ×15 meters on 14 secs. I was only going to go to 250-260 today but I did comp weight because I was feeling good and strong. Comp weight was very good. Aiming for under 10 secs on the day.

Sandbag to shoulder
I was warming up but my lower back felt a little off so I didn’t push it. Capped it there.
Some light banded deads etc monday-wednesday. Deep tissue Massage thursday then comp saturday

Guys how do I fix my left glute not activating. I want to really fix it as well as grow my glutes.

What happens when you just do glute bridges? Do you not feel your glutes working? I’d try just doing a few sets of them (single leg would be even better if you’re strong enough so that you can focus on the left side) and holding at the top and squeezing for a few seconds. It’s an easy movement that probably won’t increase your deadlift by 100lbs or anything, but it’s literally all about getting your glutes to fire.

When I do single leg with my left leg my hamstrings just cramp. I just cant seem to activate my left glute

It would be pretty hard to walk, squat, do any kind of hinge without activating your glute it some way. I think everyone reads too much or you tubes too much these days.
Have you tried standing up and squeezing your arse real hard. Just do that lots every day, when you clean your teeth. When you are waiting for a tram or bus. When you are standing in your kitchen waiting for the microwave to go ding!!! Just learn to squeeze the muscle real hard.

Guilty lol

No I havent. Il try it thankyou!

I do this a lot when I’ve been on my feet for a while and my lower back is achy. It immediately relieves some pain just by flexing my butt as hard as possible. I think Dan John (maybe it’s someone else) mentioned “gluteal amnesia” - our glutes get so weak and inactive from sitting so often that it can take a LOT of work to really get them back up to speed. That’s not to say you don’t need a strong back, quads, hams, etc. but stronger glutes will probably help your body just feel better, besides aid in lifting more weight.

today’s training
Comp week!
Yep. Hurt my back alot more than I though on Friday, Guess that’s what happens when you max out 4 days in a row. Should have stopped the yoke at 250kg but did what coach programmed because I’m stubborn and went up to 285kg and bam Back tweak! Anyone my right erector at the bottom has a sharp stabbing pain if I move too sudden, Bend over etc and today I couldnt do axle cleans without severe stabbing pain in my back. My back has been feeling fucked since Friday but its not as bad as it was.

Axle cleans
Back pain

Did press from the rack which was fine
40kg 2×6

Tire Deadlifts
90,100,110kg no pain.

I dont give a fuck. I didnt compete in the last competition because I hurt my hip and there was a back squatting event which made my hip even worse so I didnt compete. Then after that my left hip flexor got even worse and I havent squatted for ages now. I dont give a flying fuck if my back hurts by Saturday, I’m still competing. Theres no competitions for 6 months after this one and I’ve worked too long and too hard to Not compete. If I dont compete it will crush me, as it is today in the gym when my back hurt I almost felt like quitting right there but I cant quit.

Best of luck man, with your drive and work ethic you’ll crush it

Thanks brother! I plan on placing 1st. I think my back will be fine, if it was severe I wouldnt have been able to push press from the rack or tire deadlift. If I keep my back moving and flush it with blood+ take inflammatories and see my massagist+time and rest before comp it should be good as new. It just spasms with certain things so I have to be careful the next few days.

actually, when i read your log i don’t feel that your coach is doing a good job. i’d loose confidence in him if i were you.

I made alot of progress I wouldnt have made on my own. Also my coach is a really nice guy and has done alot for me! My coach was really good and other times I wouldnt agree with certain things. Some of the programming hasnt gone well with me though like my coach programming too heavy.

Anyways after this comp I’m going back to being on my own. I’ve had a coach for 5 and a half months. I’ve learned enough information and programming that if I need anything I can just search back through old messages with my coach like technique etc. I’m going to focus on using lighter weights and building a better base. Also correct imbalances and build muscle. The only muscle groups I could say are muscular is My traps, Middle and lowerback, Forearms and front delts lol. Everything else is weak and small.

After this comp theres 6 months until the next competition so I have a big offseason. At the moment what limits me in competition is my static strength, muscle mass, Technique and conditioning. I just want to put a shit tonne of size on. Specifically in my legs and delts lol.

I think its too early to say this. During the strength phase or peaking phase you will generally feel very beat up ( I know I did and my training was less intense that Dukes). But it should all come together on comp day to leave you prepared mentally and physically.
If this sh$t was easy then everyone would be a champion.
