And around here (outside DC), it’s best to stay home to watch a movie.

Past 3 times at the theater:

 1. people talking just inside door as movie starts, someone in sitting says be fuckin quiet, person by door “OH NO HE DIDN"T NIGGA BE…” and 5 secs, people by door turn lights on for like 10 secs

 2. people talking during movie loudly

 3. audio goes out for like 2 mins (near the climax of the movie), I am the only one that gets up and talks to management to get it going again.
LOL, what kind of theater are you going to? I see about 12 movies a year and the events listed have probably happened once each in the last 10 years. I wouldn’t go to the movies either if shit like that happened all the time so I don’t blame you.
closest theater is 10 mins away, that’s what happens when you are the white minority in a county  it’s not racist if it’s true, anyways next closest theater is about an extra 20 mins away, I’m jut not up for driving that extra time to see a movie when I can stay at home on my 65" 1080 with surround sound and pause a movie whenever I want, or eat whatever I want.
I used to drive 30 minutes just to get to the city. Movies aren’t for you, Hova. I’m gonna have to ignore your posts in movie threads.
I live in Houston it is a 30 minute drive to get to my fucking bathroom.

Wol would you drive an hour to a movie by yourself?

Me I have done it and fucking love it.
Sure would. I love movies.
I guess this kind of goes along with what y’all are talking about … I never understood the stigma attached to going to a movie by yourself …

Whenever I mention I went to a movie, whoever I’m talking to immediately asks “with who” or some variation there of. To which, I’ve been inclined to reply, “No one. I went by myself.” The look I get from them must be the look someone gets after they tell someone they are a leper.

I like going to the theater by myself because it allows me to really soak in the movie. I don’t have to listen to my fiancee ask a shit ton of questions I don’t know the answer to. This is the first time I’m seeing this movie too, how the fuck am I supposed to know who this guy is, they haven’t introduced him yet … What’s going to happen next? Fucking watch the movie and shut the fuck up and you’ll know the same second I’ll know…

Also, I’d much rather either go either to an early matinee or a late, late showing of the movie to avoid the annoying crowds. Plus you’ll find a lot more people will go to those showings who are just as interested in the movie as you are and won’t ruin it.

QFT can I get an Amen. But I will say my wife does not ask me questions, she knows I like movies.

I love going to movies by myself. Been doing it for years.

Is this by choice or neccessity?

lol

Just watched it and thought it was pretty sick. There were plently of parts of “Is that a real monkey or CGI?”. Mostly to do with the orangutan.

Just saw it myself. They definitely took the effects as far as they could with current technology.
In fact, I think they used real primates in the opening scene up until they started running from the hunters then went into mo-cap.

As a prequel and homage to the original, they couldn’t have done this better. Whatever flaws the movie had were minor (for example, Frieda Pinto’s character served little purpose beyond providing some eye candy and the odd moral platitude: “chimpanzees are wild animals”), but these do not affect the overall production. Even that sneering kid from Harry Potter didn’t ruin things. He was perfect casting in the sense that I wanted Caesar to do some serious damage to his gurning mugface.

The criticisms of the ending being weak are totally off. Prequel or not, the story is leading up to having the apes usurp humans as the dominant species. It’s too early for revolution on that scale.
I like that this movie was restrained enough to not end in bangs and bloodbaths.

[spoilers]

Caesar and his subjects escaping into the Redwoods lets the new species of super-primate reproduce unhindered; the last shot of the airline pilot/ asshole neighbor walking into the terminal and wiping his bloody nose hints that the human race is about to experience a global pandemic / solution to overpopulation. Perfect ending.

Just think of the spoilers as an incentive to watch the movie in the theater, in all its motion-captured glory, as it was meant to be seen, before your self-restraint cracks. That way, you’ll help ensure that I -I mean , everyone- gets a sequel.

Here’s a handy cheat sheet for those poor unfortunate souls whose lives have gone hitherto untouched by the joy of the original movie.

No excuses now.

The Gorilla in the movie is badass.
Holy shitola! Nice one, guys! Thanks to you, I’ve just realized that the movie has started to define the roles/ classes of the different species as we see them in the original POTA.

The orang is Caesar’s confidante with a natural aptitude for learning (he is the only primate with the natural ability to communicate with Caesar). They were the philosophers/ religious leaders in POTA.

The gorilla is a footsoldier (they are the warrior class in POTA).

I predict that after the apes are done with humans, there’ll be a period of in-fighting and Caesar might even be overthrown. Now I like this movie even more. The potential for future movies is vast with the primate politics we already saw in the enclosure.

Caesar’s mercy towards humans is passed on to his descendants. The chimps are the ones who recognize Taylor’s intelligence. This might be the first prequel that actually adds to the original.

Roybot-

Was there a cutscene after the credits? and what was it?

SPOILER

yeah, if I remember correctly they show the infected pilot flying to New York

Wol, after the airport scene, no. If there was one after that, I left before it and left satisfied. I’m getting bored of cutscenes TBH. The novelty wears off after a time.

watched it a 2nd time, better than I gave it credit for.

Still a few cheesy/cliche moments

What? You actually left just after that last scene? You didn’t wait midway through the credits?

If you’re planning on seeing Super 8, do not make the same mistake

As for The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the movie has substance. It has soul. Very emotional. There were a couple of plot holes here and there but I give it 8/10

And damn, those CGI. They make Caesar appear almost human.

And that gorilla was badass.

Spoiler: 'I loved the scene where all of the gorillas were pushing that bus on the bridge. Awesome

I chuckled watching this as it reminded me of a thread here in which, some members were discussing the level of strength between chimpanzees and gorillas and what they eat… or something like that…and RV was involved in that discussion…

I didn’t even see the Airport scene. Last thing I saw was James Franco saying goodbye to Caesar in the forest. I left early. Oh well.

If it isn’t a marvel movie, I don’t stay after the credits.

Haha, ok ok…gonna stop now. Finding that gif program was literally like getting a new toy but I’ll lay off the RV love. I’m sure enough people are poking the bear now anyway. =)

On topic am definitely looking forward to getting out to see this now. Getting alot of good reviews from your folks and I trust the judgement of a fwe of you (knowing we have similar tastes ^^).
