Why didn’t you like it?
Does the infected pilot that’s heading for NY crash into the Statue of Liberty?

I am soooo NOT a fan of James Franco, and the script was so predictable. I’m not a real fan of CGI, but they did do a pretty good job with the apes. Also, with the apes, there was no real connection to Ceaser…I didn’t get the warm and fuzzies, and for the protagonist, I thought I should’ve been a little more attached to him, instead, I felt uncomfortable with him.
I just didn’t buy the whole premise, and it was a weak script.
It also didn’t tie up any loose ends having to do with the original movies.
I actually liked Tim Burtons better, a little more believable.
we still freinds?

Ah but did you know this is but one of a few films they plan to make to tie up with the originals? Can’t comment on all the other stuff you’ve mentioned as I haven’t seen it yet.
And lol @ Nards comment above ^^

Haha, ok ok…gonna stop now. Finding that gif program was literally like getting a new toy but I’ll lay off the RV love. I’m sure enough people are poking the bear now anyway. =)
On topic am definitely looking forward to getting out to see this now. Getting alot of good reviews from your folks and I trust the judgement of a fwe of you (knowing we have similar tastes ^^).

Stern, with your newfound talents, you should be infecting the internet with these things!
Great work!
I haven’t seen it yet, but I have one question to anyone who has: Is it possible to see it within the context of the original movies, yet pretend the Tim Burton film never fucking existed?

Lol…give me time my friend. A few years from now the name Stern will be synonymous with gif trolling. ^^

I disagree with damn near everything you said, but its no problem. Its a difference of opinions. Better explanation than most people give.

Definitely.
^ So Wol if I dont see it until it goes to Blue ray, will you hate me forever?
I did see Expendables in the movies.

If you count the original Planet of the Apes, yes. But if you try to count Conquest for the Planet of the Apes, then just consider it a re-boot. A damn good re-boot.

I’ll be disappointed, but you can always see Conan or Fright Night!

Was there a cutscene after the credits? and what was it?
Wol, after the airport scene, no. If there was one after that, I left before it and left satisfied. I’m getting bored of cutscenes TBH. The novelty wears off after a time.
I didn’t even see the Airport scene. Last thing I saw was James Franco saying goodbye to Caesar in the forest. I left early. Oh well.
It was a good scene, but you didn’t miss anything you couldn’t be brought up to speed on through a verbal description.
[spoilers]
Basically, the asshole neighbor /pilot walks through a crowded airport in uniform on the way to his shift. His nose starts to bleed, he wipes it with his hand, and looks up at the departure board showing international flights spanning the globe. End scene. No dialogue.
[/spoilers]
I found out later that there were additional graphics over the credits, documenting the spread of the plague - I’d left by that point, as well.

They are ignoring all the sequels to the original and these new ones are leading up to / following on from the first Chuck Heston effort only.

They will, but this is a circular story, so these new ape movies act as prequels and sequels, with the original POTA acting as a centrepiece to it all: Taylor and the Icarus launch are referenced in Rise. The flight left earth before the movie starts…I’ll say no more.
There is much tipping of the hat to the original. I think the people that didn’t enjoy this either haven’t seen POTA (shame on them!) or are missing the references.

Hmm I may rewatch it actually. Been at least ten years or more since I last saw POTA and my geeky ass wouldn’t want to miss references. ![]()

It’d be worth it, I think. There were at least seven direct references to POTA, probably many more that I missed. All were there for a reason.
The story operates in a way that assumes you’ve seen POTA at least once.
Rise plays out as a negative image of POTA, with Caesar assuming Taylor’s role of the outsider in a hostile world, so your knowledge and opinion of the original will definitely affect your enjoyment of this new movie…

Not that I know of, unless it was referenced in a newspaper headline or something during the credits after I left.
