Please ignore the chicken wing, to crank my elbows under right now hurts my shoulder so I’m holding the bar where it’s comfortable. Once my shoulder is 100% I’ll work on that.
OG- thanks me too, so far so good. Something that really hurt was to reach behind my back and that no longer hurts but is sore.
Germanone- Thank you for all your help. I was a little surprised by how much of a difference they made. You’ll notice a lot of wiggling around prior to making an attempt. Once you put your foot on the floor it’s nailed down and a little hard to situate, there is no turning your ankle to move the foot like with Chucks.
DJ- They were pricey, $200. First opinion is they’re worth every penny, very well made, extremely stable and surprisingly comfortable. Ordered from Rogue Fitness http://www.roguefitness.com/nike-romaleos-weightlifting-shoes.php They only sell them in black and as best I can tell unless you wear a 14+ Rogue is the only place to get them.
Joe- Thank you sir, vids are up.
Dday are they strictly for lifting? Or can you run in them also? sorry cant go to website for some reason it is blocked here at work.
You are welcome. Looks like you are sitting back more already and squats are looking better. In a few workouts you’ll be nailing them perfect.

They are strictly for lifting. Pretty sure you couldn’t run in them if you wanted to. The sole is flat and hard, does bend well at the toe for walking, think cowboy boots with a flat sole. Lots of CrossFitters wear them. This specific shoe, as I understand it was designed for Olympic lifting teams. Excited to deadlift in them Thursday, the stability is amazing, like your feet are in concrete.

Right now I just wear Nike cross trainers when I go do the Xfit with the wifey. When I am doing heavy days like DL and Squat I use the Vibram, everything else I use the Nikes.
My vibrams are getting old and word down, I was wearing chucks before. But my feet were slipping inside when I sumo DL’d that was why I went with the vibram’s. Felt like my feet were in concrete and solid on the pull.
I dont know about getting these if I can run in them, kind of wanted an all around shoe I could use for all. Cause I am not running in vibram’s.

Mentally it’s easier to sit back with a box under me.
A well meaning trainer try to help me sit back one time. Had 315 on the bar and he pulled me backward, lost my balace and somehow got smack in the head, bar ended up on my neck and squashed my face into my knees. The rack caught the weight but the pins were low so really I caught the weight, moral of the story, it freaked me out.

Yea the Romaleos are not at all practical but if, like me, you have problems getting depth and you’ve tried all the streetching etc then they’re a good option. I read a TON of information on lifting shoes, read reviews and talked to people before pulling the trigger and so far I’m happy I did. If you’re doing a lot of cleans, deads and squats them a lifting shoe might be something to look into. There are several companies that make them and Adidas has a pair now right about $100 however they’re so new the reviews are not in and I didn’t want to take a chance.

Are you friggin kidding me, he actually moved you while you have 315 on your back!!! Wow. Here is how i teach people to sit back (If you have someone who can help you). Get a length of PVC pipe maybe 3-4 feet long. Have someone hold the pipe horizontally in front of your knee, below the knee cap at about the patella tendon or so. The PVC should be straight up above the toes. When you squat if you feel your knee touch the PVC you know you need to sit back more but when you hit the PVC it just pushes away and doesn’t force you back (they should be holding i lightly not pushing you back with it). As you get better move the PVC closer to knee, maybe over first shoe lace, then second etc. But don’t ever let anyone force your knees or hips to do something while your squatting. Lucky you didn’t get seriously hurt. If you want vid of the PVC thing let me know.

That makes sense and most days I have a training partner who can help, if he shows next time we’ll practice that or I’ll rig something up.
Don’t get me wrong the guy is (generally) a good trainer we both had brain farts. We agreed afterward that we should have lowered the weight for starters and he shouldn’t have tried to pull my chest up. He felt really bad about it and other than a bump on the head and some mental scars I was ok. Lesson learned, the hard way.
Just make sure to start with a bar and work your way up over several sets. Should work good.

Do they work for deads as well? I would think the heel lift would force you over the bar more.
^not sure git. People online we’re raving about deadlifting in them so I guess so but can see your point. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
Ya, not so sure about deads. Try it and you’ll know on the first warm-up set.
Got a wild hair tonight and decided to do some HIIT and it kicked my ass.
X drill 30 seconds rest
5 sets
T drills 30 seconds of rest
5 sets
13lb sledge hammer slam
5 sets of 10 with each arm
tire drag
100 yrds forward return backwards x2
90lb sandbag carry
100 yards on each shoulder x2
Kind of made this up as I went along and really kicked my own ass. Doesn’t look like I’m going to lift tomorrow, got family coming over tomorrow night.
what a difference dday, from the first squat vids you posted to now, excellent improvement.
Dday those squats looked good- nice work
shoes make a big difference
and that conditioning session looked pretty rugged.
if I can jump in on lifting shoes a little
I had some lifting shoes in the past- adidas and they where excellent
got them trading some wrestling sneakers- this is like 15 or more years ago
they really help wit the olifts and squatting, the heal adds some height
to help with ankle flexibility they lend allot of stability to the foot
I found they where great with snatches, cleans front and or back squats.
I ordered the adidas that are currently 90$- the Nike romeleos are closer to 200
the whole movement for chucks- is that they are both cheap and flat
and for people for whom ounces count on lifts- you are a wee bit closer to the floor
personally- I am going through what is looking more and more like plantar facititis
and my ankle and knee are both inflamed
I blame chuck taylors for that.
Thanks for the dialog in here. I’m definitely learning a lot about training and equipment.
It will be interesting seeing how your squats progress now with the shoes and additional tips.
Do you have a plan on your conditioning work?
james
Thanks y’all
Germanone- Don’t know either. Like I said, there were several folks online who like them for deads?? One way to find out.
Matty-I have been working at, still a wase to go.
Kmc- Makes sense that lifting in flat soled shoes would cause problems with platar facititis, no arch support what so ever.
Very interested in how you like the Adidas.
James- Its nice to have such insightful and helpful folks to learn from. Everyone has been so awesome helping to get my squat down pat, ready to start using more weight but really need to get the form locked in before going up.
As far conditioning, I don’t always post about it but most mornings I walk and or run 30-45 minutes and try to do some kind of GPP once or twice a week. Had planned to do more of a cross fit style training leading up to the warrior dash but after effing up my shoulder the majority of the CF stuff was out of the question.
