Love the Barrett

I would be totally impressed if someone could make a decent standing shot with a Barret.

How much does the thing weigh?

That was the M107 semi-auto, not as accurate as the bolt version. The battalion sniper squad leader (used to be an instructor at the Army school) stated it was a only a 3 minute gun with match ammo, but they were getting better accuracy than that, more like 2 minutes. That there was me firing a hitting an 8 inch target at 100 meters with some new European 50BMG ammo, armor-piercing, exploding-tip, incendiary, tracer stuff called RAUFOSS. Pretty interesting with great effects on targets. Weight is 30ish pounds for the gun.

Damn. I’m impressed.

Sorry to resurrect old shit, but i am currently in the market for a new toy (again).

I typically subscribe to the “a rifle is a rifle and a pistol is a pistol” ideology. But this is just so neat (in theory) I may have to get one:

I have looked at the 9mm version, but apparently there is a .40 S&W and even a .45 ACP! Anyone have any thoughts / opinions / real world experience? I plan on going to shoot on this weekend.

Ruger makes a carbine similar to this. I like Ruger firearms in general. Built like tanks and reliable as hell.

Actually, this is why I posted this. I prefer Ruger as well (have three now). I didn’t know they had a carbine. Haven;t ever really been a Beretta fan. I’ll check Google and the Ruger site.

Thanks for the info!
Think they call it the P-9? 9mm and .40 cal.

Make that in a .45 and you’d have a nice little shooter.

Here’s what H&K has to say about the briefcase for the MP5K:

No description of the K would be complete without mention of the briefcase. One of the hottest setups for collectors, the briefcase has limited applications for VIP protection, other than being very discreet. Difficult to fire accurately, the briefcase can easily put bullet holes into the calf of the firer, should he decide to fire the K on full auto while holding the case normally. Can you picture it?
PC9. Found it:

I really like the classic look of that rifle, It is supposed to be built like a tank.

A PC9 with a 30-mag would be wicked fun.

I have one concern about it though. The h
“hi-cap” mags that can be used with it are the ones used in the P-series pistols. I own a P95. I don’t think those mags are built to be “hanging out” of the gun like that. Looks to me like something could get damaged pretty easily.

The Storm, on the other hand, conceals the mags in the hand grip (that is, until they do come out with some hi-caps).

I wish the PC9 came in the same finish options as the Mini 30…

How do you like the Mini-30?

I have been lusting after a Mini-14 myself.

BTW Here is some great Gun Porn, just scroll down the left side of the screen.

Looks great to me. A bit much for my current needs though. I am currently trying to decide between these:

  1. Ruger Mini 14 in black synthetic / steel
  2. Beretta CX4 Storm 9mm Carbine
  3. AR-15 (complete, prolly Rock River or Bushmaster)
  4. Ruger PC9 Carbine

Gonna go test out a Storm soon. That should make the decision easier.

The Ruger PC9 is neat, but I’m just not too sure about it yet either.

Hey guys, i’m considering getting this as kind of a starter .308 as i’ve never owned a weapon in that caliber before. Any of you have an educated opinion on this weapon you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Absolutely love my mini-14. Just not all that crazy about the .223 round. Replaced the wood stock on it and both my 10-22’s with Hogue rubber stocks. Like my AK as well (banana clip pisses off the anti-gunners). I’m currently having a tactical rifle built on a Mauser 98 action. Can’t wait till it’s ready! I’ve thought about buying an AR, but wasn’t sure which one to go with, perhaps Rock River? An M1-A or .50 cal. would next on my wish list.

Prepare to get all steamy thighed.

JD Jones and SSK Industries > all

458 SOCOM - 350 grain Speer at 1800 FPS.
Equals heavily loaded 45-70s.

Also accurate with 500 grain Hornady’s Sub-Sonic.

Currently chambered AR-15 /M-16 uppers are:

17 Remington
20 Tactical
204 Ruger
221 Fireball
222 Remington
222 Rem Magnum 223 Remington
6/223
6 MM PPC (JDJ)
6 MM Whisper
6.5 Grendel
6.5 MPC 6.5 MM PPC (JDJ)
6.5 MM Whisper
7 MM TCU
7 MM Whisper
300 Whisper
458 SOCOM

Others will be added in the future.

How about an AR-10 in suppressed 338 Whisper?

I briefly owned a Chinese-made AKS, way back in…must have been the Reagan Administration. The finish was a bit shoddy, the thing rattled when shaken, and with that big thirty-round iron banana hanging off of it, it was kind of a pig to get into a decent firing position. The sights were execrable, the sling was a joke, the wooden pistol grip was not my idea of ergonomic (and don’t get me started on the crappy-ass bayonet!)…but man was it fun! Never one failure to feed in pretty foul conditions, either, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for my issue M16.

I replaced the AKS with an HK91, which was later replaced with a Fulton Armory M14. I am in love with this rifle and would not replace it with anything (except maybe a Mannlicher Scout…), but in your case, if you’re looking for a good, dependable semiautomatic rifle in a serious caliber for not a whole lot of money (less than half the price of an M1A), I think you can’t go far wrong with this AK/VEPR. Everything I complained about in the AKS seems to have been addressed, and the Kalashnikov has a longer and more successful track record than any other small arm in current use, with the exception of the 1911 pistol.

I notice, however, that according to the website they are out of stock. Hope you find one elsewhere.

Cheers

Blood

Looks like two different categories.

The Ruger and the Mini are rifles using a fairly high speed bullet. Good for outside work and a lot of fun to shoot. I own a mini and several Ar’s. If I could pick one I’d take the Ruger. My Ruger has never jammed or failed to fire in 10 years. Ar’s a popular and can be much more accurate past 100m.

The other two are pistol caliber carbines. I haven’t shot either. I think they’d be good for close quarters. Both would be cheaper to shoot.

My conclusion buy one of each

It’s funny; I had this conversation in my head just this morning. You are right on the money. Goes back to that ideology I posted a few messages back:

A pistol is a pistol and a rifle is a rifle. There is really no getting around that.

I was interested in the CX4 and PC9 because I already shoot a bunch of 9 and thought it might be convenient. But do I really need another 9mm? Even if it is two handed? No, not really.

I realized that he other reason that I like the CX4 is because, subconsciously, I love Bullpups. So… the answer is very apparent. Either a Mini 14 w/ Bullpup conversion (or something similar like the M17S) is what I am after. (Pic of the Mini 14 Bullpup above.)

Thanks, LT.

Ironic that this Russian-made 7.62 NATO Kalashnikov is probably a superior weapon than the American-made 7.62x39 M14 (Mini-30) produced by Ruger. How times change. You might get both, just for a laugh.

Or spend the same amount of money and get a real M14 (or an M1A, actually, which is as close as you can get), a much better weapon than both of them.

Depends on what you want. If you want a weapon that goes bang every single time you squeeze the trigger, in rain, snow, mud, and desert storm, but aren’t terribly particular about where the bullets land, then you want a Kalashnikov.

If you want a weapon that will hit what you are aiming at, that is, in essence, just as accurate as you are, and that is utterly reliable, rugged and beautiful as well, for a little extra money, then…well, I think I’ve probably overstated my preference, but I’d go with the good old M14.
