MM, I noticed earlier in the thread you talked about your calories. Can you give us an overview of what you’re taking in on a daily basis, calories, meal frequency, ect. Thanks!
i’m at the top of my powerlifting weight division so i’m just trying to maintain my current weight while getting stronger.
i take in 4 protein shakes each day. each with about 50 grams of protein. i eat about 6 small meals each day mostly made up of protein with some complex carbs in the way of multigrain pastas rice or bread. drink tons of water and eat lots of nuts as snacks throughout the day with yogurt and granola.
i eat some fruit, not much- mostly a banana and an apple for a snack. pretty boring but that’s about it. i really have no idea about calories. i basically snack all day and really never eat a huge meal ever.

Thanks for the feedback – are the shakes in addition to your six small meals, or are four or you six meals liquid?

Sick reverse grip bench meat. Do you know your openers yet? I’m about 90% certain I will be attending your meet as my boss is lifting too.
Not sure if someone has asked this before or not, but what type of shoes do you lift in.
I squat with about a medium width stance as well (little outside shoulder width) and have been comtemplating fancy-pants oly weightlifting shoes. I have been using chucks but also really have to focus on sitting on my heels. I am wondering if I would be better off with oly shoes since chucks are probably more suited for wide-stanced/gear-using squatters who sit back as far as possible, rather than normal raw squatters.

i squat in high top chucks. if you are trying to get back on your heels more oly shoes aren’t the way to go. they have an elevated heel. i’m going to buy a pair of Metal squatting shoes. they are a bit pricey but they are apparently awesome.

Thanks for the advice. I will stick with the chucks. The wife was just asking me for Christmas present ideas, which means “What would I never justify spending money on, but wouldn’t mind trying?”
skwatts. this was actually last night’s session. i was going to follow 5/3/1 but decided to just work up to a weight that would be a good opener on squat.
warmup
0x10

600x1- this was the plan for my opener but it felt really light.
635x1- felt very solid. the band work has paid off. my acceleration out of the hole was unblieveable tonight.
that was it for the night. deads sunday and then next week will be a week of working up to openers and then a week to rest.
While were on the subject of shoes, what do you think about adidas sambas? Another lifter turned me onto them bc of the flat bottom – they seem like a good alternative to my barefoot method.

highlight from tonight- reverse grip bench 510x1 +10lb PR. set up a little too close to the uprights and hit the right side one. luckily i was able to still lock it out.

I noticed you said that doing reverse grip bench press makes you use your rear delts more than front, any other differences like upper pec or triceps?
it is a HUGE tricep builder. especially where it attaches near the elbow. this part of the tricep is very important in locking out during the bench.
i can’t emphasize enough how great this movement is for balanced shoulders. everyone should do these as a bench variation.
