Ridiculous Gym Numbers

I no longer discuss numbers (mine or theirs) with anyone I train with or around.

I know the general consensus is who cares what other people’s numbers are but it bothers me when you know its total bullshit. I work extremely hard to get whatever lifts I get…to let someone say that they do the same or done more when they were younger fucking pisses me off. My cousin is like this, everything I have done he has double when he was 18…its like talking to Uncle fucking Rico.

This seems relevant. I was reading a study that regardless of what category (athletic, intellectual, or otherwise) rarely will you get more than 5% of the people surveyed to admit that they are below the 80th percentile. In other words 95% of people think they are better than 80% of the people.

This is simply the nature of our society.

My personal experience is from baseball. When I was 15, I threw 82 miles per hour from the windup, 80 from the stretch, and 84 from the outfield. These were my TOP numbers, meaning that I averages around 3-5 miles less in each scenario. These were all under the radar gun. However, people think that they can just “eyeball” the velocity of a pitch. Anything past 75 is pretty much a blur to non professional players. But I constantly heard of 15-16 year olds that averaged 85 miles per hour…

Generally, on the outrageous claims, I chuckle and walk away. Seems to work well. Shuts them up and conveys the message without having to enter an asinine discussion. You can then call them by the nick name “world record holder” every time you see them.

I dont think anyone should be offended on this site if they claim they can move an impressive amount of weight and get called out for video evidence…I just heard a report that there almost as many cell phones as there are people and I would venture to guess 95 percent of them have video capability. So if you claim you can bench 400 raw and your 150 lbs, vids or it didnt happen FTMFW.

Your better than me, I get goaded into these claims I should follow your rule of thumb.

Only because I took the bate 400 different times and got tired of it.

It’s way better for me now that I train at home and haven’t been to the gym in 4 months.

'sup Matty!?!? People are fucking idiots. Never mind the dude who claimed the 4.3 40, y’all should see the dude claiming the 650 squat. That’s just such an absurd number, and this kid obviously doesn’t realize the standard plate arrangement and how you’d even get there. I told him there’s no way he’s even squatting 3 plates and he looked at me like I was speaking Russian. Generally I just let shit slide, but this thread is about the shit that’s so out there you’re forced to say something.

Someone who couldn’t squat 315 claimed a 650 squat and believed it?

^ I’m not sure he’s ever even squatted, but he tossed the number out like it was no big deal then back peddled down to 5-hundo when I called him out on it. He wouldn’t budge from there. You could tell he had no clue what “3 plates” meant. He then said “you’re making me want to go back to the gym to see where I’m at”. I’ma bet him a paycheck he can’t even get 2 plates to depth. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Fuck that dolt dude, I betcha he couldn’t do one proper body weight squat. My cousin squatted 650 in 8th grade ASS to GRASS brah!

He couldn’t. He literally came up on his toes and squatted not quite quarter depth while staying on his toes and had his hands up by his ears mimicking where the bar would be. It was pretty clear he’s never done a correct squat in his life, but there’s no easy he’s even quarter squatting half his claim. This dude is a small guy.

Come to think of it, I have some bullshit stories.

I use a fat bar for benching as I prefer it, similar to an axle. Random guy see’s me doing it, wants a go and does a few reps. He has never used the bar before.

“You sure that is xxx amount?”

Me: “Yes”

“I’ve benched more than xxx with the bar recently but just getting back into it”

I was confused…

From my commercial gym experience I have seen guys claim big squats for reps but only quarter squat and believe the lifts are genuine.

I worked with some little wanker who said he could deadlift 200KG easy. When I asked about his lack of trap development he said, “traps?” and proceeds to show me a back squat, a partial one at that.

Upon saying he didn’t have a clue what a deadlift or back squat was he then tried calling me out with some of his own knowledge that he and his friends use in the gym.

He lost and then demanded an arm wrestle…seriously.

He lost that too and I laughed at how pathetic his lies were.

^wat

I wonder how many of the stories in this very thread are bullshit…lol.

Just tell him i will commit suicide at 80. Will he say he will do it at 160 or if you are lucky at 40?

When I was in high school there was this girl on the softball team who told me she could squat 315 and was surprised that I couldn’t squat a lot more. After a few minutes of insisting that she was mistaken, because I didn’t think there was any way she was actually squatting 315, we came to the realization that she doesn’t know what a squat is. She could legpress 315…[/quote]

A girl I work with told me she could curl 150, and she probably weighs all of 120 lbs.

I told her there was no way she could but she was positive she could if she tried. Her reasoning was because she could do 150 lbs on the ab crunch machine, and she thought her arms were way stronger than her abs.

The next day she came in and said she was wrong, and she struggled with 25 lbs.

Please film him getting pinned under 135.

I saw a guy at the gym last week who claimed to his buddy that he hit 265lbs on bench press the week prior.

Which isn’t shit, except that this was between sets of 1/4 depth squats with 135 lbs on his back, and he was struggling big-time with that weight. It looked like he each time he squatted, if he went down another couple of inches he would just sink like a fucking stone right to the ground and get stapled. And he was only about 5’11" and about 155-165 lbs.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s a dude at my gym, a doctor who’s 53. I’ve know him for a year, shot the shit once every other week in between sets. Turns out he is the only guy in the states to have DL’ed over 500 in over 5 decades. Holds 40 or so records (in all of the various PL groups) and 4 international titles. I just found this out a month ago from somebody else. When I asked him he totally played it down.
