I learned a very important lesson this morning - I do not make good decisions when I’m wasted. In fact, it’s almost 1pm and I think I’m still wasted and therefore still not making good decisions. Time to sleep it off, shower up and hit the gym.
K I just realized this made it sound like I woke up beside someone. I didn’t.

Today’s training session to be posted later.

Okay so to start… Friday night was a mess. What began as drinks with a date ended with us going to a club with his friends, me staying long after he left, drinking way more than I ever should have, almost getting stranded in a sketchy area of town and passing out on one of his friend’s couches. Messy. Like I shouldn’t be allowed out in public messy. So no, despite how my original post sounded, my bad decisions had to do with drinking and actually thinking like an idiot, not waking up, rolling over and realizing I make bad decisions.

So I slept it off, woke up, showered and went to hurt myself at the gym. My push routine it was. And my shoulder hurt worse than my nagging headache, so it was a difficult session.

A. Bench Press 4x5, 75s rest. 50lbs for all.
B. Push Press 4x6, 60s rest. 20lbs for all… and man does this motion ever make me want to cry.
C1. DB Flyes 3x12, no rest. 10lbs
C2. DB Laterals 3x12, 45s rest. 5lbs. This motion hurts worse than the push press. Killswitch Engage got me through these.
D. Tricep Pushdown 2x6/12/25, 60s rest. 70lb/35lb/20lbs.

I’m not really sure what to do about my shoulder. It’s an old injury from my teenage years which I thought I finally sufficiently strengthened earlier this year. I wasn’t having any issues with it until I started playing far too much volleyball again. But no, I’m not giving that up. Going to bug Todd for his professional opinion.

My moods have been so quick to turn lately that it seems like I’m in a constant state of PMS. However 1, I’m not. and 2. I’ve never been one to get that ‘pms-y’. I had a great day today catching up with a friend I only see about once a year and I actually finally feel ‘normal’ again after eating well this weekend and taking some ‘me’ time. I’m back on track this week and much looking forward to it.

I got up this morning and went for a run. A run! I haven’t gone on a steady state run since my half marathon. And I actually had an urge to do it! So I ended up doing my old 5mile route in 45min. Not too shabby considering I haven’t run in 2 months.

This is turning into a rambling post, but that’s what happens when I slack and don’t post for days. Anyways, tomorrow should be heavy leg day, however I’m meeting up with a girlfriend and going to her gym with her. So, I might just do my pull routine instead and push strength legs til Tuesday. We shall see.

Your in a grind right now. Tired. Lethargic. Not motivated.

Been there, remember that…

Find something to focus on. Remember, 225 is your goal. Stay focused on that.

Train your ass off! When your tired, cranky, PMS’y, full of energy, it doesn’t matter.

Just do it because I know you can
Just wanted to let you know that this is an amazing post. Thank you so much. I know I can do it and I love that you know I can do it too. It’s so nice having extra support everywhere from people.

I’m back people. Watch out

And if Bartl’s suggestion doesnt work, just revel in the fact that you front squat more than me. The fact that I put that out into the universe should put a smile on you face and some pep in you step!
Sayjin, everytime I read this I laugh.

What say you we get Bartl to make it up to the northeast, I trek it to Michigan from Toronto and the three of us have a killer training session or two? You down? Bartl?

Maybe it’s time you listen to your iPod and play that friendly sound clip…

That might motivate you.

Sounds like you need to post 2 sound clips now.
a) B*tch Puh-leeze!
b) Why don’t you just quit
I had my iPod on shuffle all songs yesterday. During push press what comes on but my friendly Todd voice clip “Why don’t you just quit? Girls are supposed to quit”. Well I swore at you again. Out loud. Just like I used to do while running. I got funny looks, but what do I care?

Are you in town the 28th? It’s time for a 1RM test again. This time with video.

Hey laroyal,

Thanks for the appearance on my log  Appreciate the program too. Todd will look at it when he changes up my program in two weeks. Right Todd?

I’m down, especially because it sounds like I don’t have to travel! I do indeed wonder just how killer our training sessions would be when you factor in that you’d be working out with 2 bum legs between the both of us, lol.

PS - I thought your last post said “I’m black people. Watch out =)” Wonderful way to start my day!

Oh it would be killer because we’d have to do at least one leg session. Only fair since Bartl made me do arms with him (my weak point). And you don’t have to travel because Bartl loves UM and I love football. Therefore you win.

You guys say the word and I’ll get to cleaning my apartment.

So I had an UNREAL training session today. I took the day semi-off from work and hit the gym up this afternoon. There were actually some ‘regulars’ there so it was a good scene. The guy that spotted me a few weeks ago when I test my 1RM there again today. He rocks. Totally helps me push through it, feel strong and get the weight up. He talks me/coaches me through it and it works. He did my last my last two sets of squats with me. Here it was:

A. Squats 6x4 90s rest. 165/165/165/175/175/185
B. Deadlifts 4x8 60s rest. 115 for all.
C1. DB Sumo Squat 3x8 0s rest. 55lbs for all.
C2. Leg Curl 3x8 45s rest. 90lbs for all.
D1. Step Ups 2x25 0s rest. BW
D2. Extensions 2x25 45s rest. 5@45, 10@37.5, 10@30 / 25@30

So yeah… that’s right… my 1RM a few weeks ago was 195 and I failed at 185 the first time. Now I did 185 for 4. Freaking awesome.

Those steps ups are killer. I was panting like a fat kid trying to run a marathon while smoking.

I’m in such a great mood right now. Like unreal. I can’t even put words to how great my training session was. I couldn’t even do anything but giggle at the guy wearing a belt while doing reverse curls and wrist curls. At least he wasn’t in the squat rack

What a change in attitude from just few days ago - I’m glad you stuck it out and gave the squat rack hell!

Hi Court, just wanted to drop by and see how you were doing.
Keep your eye on the 2-2-5!!!

I hurt. Bigtime. Like I pushed myself super hard in the gym last night hurt. My glutes and hips are so tight that any lower body motion hurts. Needless to say, trekking around work in heels today was splendid.

I may have even pushed myself ‘too’ hard last night. I know you’re thinking that’s not possible. Maybe I didn’t PUSH myself too hard but I definitely was a little dumb. My second last set of deadlifts, I struggled with the weight for my last 3 reps or so. Had I used my brain, I would have lowered the weight for my last set because my DL is by no means one of my ‘best’ lifts. Instead, I kept the weight constant and judging by how tight and sore my lower back is today, I did it at the expense of form. It felt alright doing it, definitely tough, but I didn’t feel I was doing it ‘poorly’, however my back would disagree with me. So between my back, hips and butt, I’m one old lady tonight. Have I mentioned that I love my foam roller?

Anyways, hit up the gym this evening for a quickie pull session before volleyball. I was useless at volleyball. I think I’m taking tomorrow night off since I’m playing in tourneys both Friday night and all day Saturday. Anyways here was the session:

A. Assisted pullups 4x4 75s rest - same assistance level used as last time (I think it’s so I’m pulling 47% of my BW).
B. BB Rows - 4x6 60s rest - 70lbs
C1. Upright Rows - 3x12 0s rest - 40/30/30
C2. Bent Over Laterals - 3x12 45s rest - 7.5lbs
D. Cable Curl - 2x6/12/25 - 50lbs/25lbs/10lbs

It was a really tough session. I was in the zone mentally, but physically my body was telling me to go screw myself. I got through it, but barely. Taking tomorrow night totally off will be good for me and my sleep. Cuz I need to catch up on that.

I witnessed a couple of interesting occurrances today. The first was on my way from work to the train station.

There’s a set of stairs on my route and there’s typically a guy sitting either at the top or bottom of them panhandling. Well today they have one half of the stairway blocked off for construction and the man is nowhere in sight.

Instead, there is a man that looks slightly disheveled (but still in clean and newish looking clothes) sitting off to the side on what is essentially a brick wall/bench. Anyways, I see him as I approach and he takes off his hat, wipes his brow and sits with his hat out (like the same way someone would hold it if they were panhandling).

So this 45ish year old man goes and puts some change in it as he walks by. He almost got his ass kicked. There were some words exchanged along the lines of “You effin think I look homeless? Just because I’m not wearing an effin Armani suit, I have to be effin poor. Well go eff yourself”. This occurrance took place right in front of the stairway too so people were trying to sidestep them so they could make their train.

The second “interesting” sighting was tonight at the gym. After my training session I was trying to stretch out and do some mobility work for my lower body. I had seen this little man (probably 40ish, skinny, glasses, hunched over, 5’3 max) on the treadmill when I walked in, didn’t really notice him though.

Well I’m in front of a set of mirrors, which happens to be near the only “long” walkway in the gym. Basically where people do walking lunges or I do my walking mobility movements. It’s between the cardio equipment and weights. Anyways, this guy comes and starts weaving in and out of the weight stands. It’s not like an obstacle course by any means as they’re probably about 10ft apart. Not only that, but he’s wearing a white tee which is see through in his chest from sweating (fine), but it’s easily a XXL. You couldn’t see shorts or anything. I go back to stretching, but I can see him in the mirror… back and forth along this walkway. He keeps almost running into people and is extremely heavy on his feet…looks like he’s almost dragging them.

Eventually someone stops and asks what he’s training for (everyone was looking at him by this point) and he says in very broken English “My dog is in a superdogs contest and I have to run with him”. The look of confusion on the guy’s face (and everyone elses in the gym) was priceless.

My last wasn’t so much interesting as much as a piss off. There’s a guy at the gym who I swear can’t walk from his bed to the toilet to take a dump without his weightlifting belt on. Today he was doing arms. Arms! Bicep curls, hammer curls, tricep extensions. You name it, he did them. Bis and Tris all day. But… oh ya… he was wearing his belt the whole time. I wanted to take it off him and beat him with it. But I refrained  I was clearly on my best behavior tonight.

185 for reps huh? Celebrate when you get 225 for reps!

And start doing those shoulder pre-hab movements you’ve been taught. They will help with your shoulders.

And lay off the bottle for a bit…

LOL@ the ‘guy with the belt.’

I see it all the time, and thought of asking one of them,‘WHY?’

Tough love from Bartl…

I played in a 4s beach volleyball tournament today. As Todd pointed out in his training log, where do Canadians play beach volleyball? On a court behind a hockey arena of course.

Our team (Todd included) ended up finishing 2nd. We lost in the finals by 1 freaking point! However I missed the last few minutes of that game after diving for a ball and having something go in my hip. I wanted to go back out there after attempting to “walk it off” but the other guy on my team basically told me to have a seat and that it wasn’t worth it.

I’ve mentioned before how tight my hips have been but after 5 hours of volleyball they were feeling pretty damn good. Anyways, I made it home, cleaned off the caked on sand (the joys of it going from bright, hot, humid and sunny to pouring rain, back to hot and humid) and after sitting down to eat dinner, I couldn’t get up.

I can’t lie down with my leg fully extended and I can’t weight bear without tons of pain. When I was still at the tournament, it was mostly the back of my hip and my glute. However now it’s sort of wrapped its way all around my right hip area, front to back.

I haven’t really thought about this in the context of my training yet because I’m exhausted after today. I had planned on taking the full week off from volleyball to let my body (shoulder) recover. I had planned on hitting the gym extra hard. I guess now I’m going to have to play it by ear. Possibly get in to see my physio. Clearly my body is screaming for a break. I’ll oblige for a bit, but request much more back from it afterwards.
