Today was the first time doing reverse band deadlifts. I just want to make sure this was setup right. With this setup, the empty bar floated at around lockout and id say there was probably 100lbs of tension at the bottom.
That’s really high. You usually want the bands at 5’6-5’9 off the ground and don’t choke them around the pin.
Put the safety pins in the top hole. Run the bands around it. Dont choke them. Easy.
Jason
If you want the bands around 5’6" 5’9" for DL how high off the bench do you want them for Rev Band Bench?
ok thanks guys
I like to use bands hung at about around chin level- so it’s really relative to your height. For this, I prefer blue bands. At that height, the bar is basically unassisted right at the conventional sticking point - knee height. For most lifters, what they can pull raw in this style is usually comparable to what they can get in a good suit.

It’s bench. Who cares? haha. Seriously though, you usually want them setup so they full deload at lockout for benching.
Personally, I have the best results with the band attatched to the top of a 7 foot rack. I also use a green and a mini band. Trial and error helped me figure that one out and it works best for me. Rev. Band Deadlifts are basically the only max effort exercise I use for deadlifting. I’ve been doing it for about a year now and my progress hasnt stopped yet. If your lockout sucks and/or your hands are weak, there is no better exercise for the deadlift.

i totally agree with this statement. I’ll take it farther to include squats and deads. I’m a firm believer in supramaximal work to get the body used to handling heavier than max full ROM poundages. I used to do a lot of board presses, pulling off of high blocks and squatting to high boxes to achieve the same result. the advantage of reverse bands is that it allows for a full ROM which in turn keeps your form solid. I find that many, me included, tend to cheat doing box squats, block pulls and high board presses that don’t transfer well.
I’m now doing reverse band for all three lifts attempting to add 5lbs each time i hit them and then doing back off sets with straight weight. it’s amazing how light the straight weight feels after doing the heavy reverse band work.
also, i used to do my reverse band work with heavy bands. i find that they take too much off and didn’t carry over nearly as well as the medium bands do. i strive to set up the bands so that at the top of the movement the bands don’t take off anything (or nearly anything). i do find that the medium bands have a definite drop off where they seem to totally give out quickly. this has taken a few weeks to get used to. the heavy bands seemed to have a more gradual drop off.

I totally agree with that! My squat has gone nowhere fast and I think its from doing too musch work on a box, albeit I probably havent been doing it correctly, but I have been getting much more out of reverse band work.

I always feel very odd when I work with reverse band squats to no box… Any issues for you?
I am going to bring the Rev. band DL’ing back into my next training cycle for sure…
any point at all in using these as DE work ?
