yeah, it’s good man. I’m making progress and, other than the bastard child OHP, really seeing improvement in both technique and strength on the lifts.
I recognize that I’m probably more suited to a best damn type of routine in the long run but want to run 5/3/1 to get back my base of strength and size before I roll off of it.
doing T-ransformation challenge but just trying to GAIN the whole time. I was originally going to cut for the last 8 weeks but I think I’m just going to keep in mass gain phase for a while.
Follow me! We’re headed in the same direction. So far I’m enjoying my program. The plus sets turned rest/pause sets feel good on bench and OHP. We all know squat and deads are a different monster so I can’t say it’s a complete win yet.
Wendler says, and I think not only him, hesitates about rest/pause on squats and deads.
On wendlers programs it’s rest/pause typically on FSL weight, with the press and BP.
Sq is widowmaker on FSL and DL pr sets FSL. (or some SSL stuff).
I think the reason is that setting up for SQ and DL after a taxing AMRAP set with very little rest, it is hard to not break down the technique. With an injury waiting.
EDIT: trying to follow the way to mass = Fatness.
I know but I’m stubborn. And until I experience it, I can’t see how doing a widow maker set or AMRAP with FSL after a plus set is much different. All three scenarios will have you lifting in a state of fatigue.
I also kind of see the rest/pause sets as being similar to clusters (in my head). I imagine I’ll get whatever number on my PR set and then it’ll be 1 or 2 reps on each subsequent set. Fatigue won’t be the same but my approach to each set will be the same.
Pretty sure Dave recommends cutting the FSL set AS SOON AS you experience technique break down (although that’s often hard to know in the moment)
I’ll have to see how my body handles increased volume. I don’t think I can handle the volume you do right now but maybe a few weeks ramping up I could.
I think doing Beyond 1.1 and 1.2 should get me more volume and start to increase my endurance (that’s why I wanted to do them).
Sometime after the T-ransformation 2018 Challenge is over, I think we should sit down and put our heads together and look at my program to see where I should go based on my goals.I would definitely love your input/feedback on that.
Superset assistance lifts: 3 rounds (TOTALLY DED AFTER 3 ROUNDS)

NOTES:
had an idea I wanted to hit 10 @320 going in
workout energy is so weird sometimes
Felt out-of-sorts this morning and didn’t have any oatmeal so just had banana and protein shake
Got on my 285 set and realized I felt very good (loose and good energy)
When I got to 10 I thought 12 was in range
When I hit 12 I knew I could get one or two more
On 14, I just needed, “One more for the Corps”
Fun day in gym as the weather is freezing rain and slushy roads
no one was there except about 4 regulars
The guy who walks by as i’m about to start my top set is “Gary” and he’s one of those older guys that just grinds
He’s all busted up but gets to the gym to fight off tightness and old age (he’s a great dude)
As you see in the top set video, I used straps for that set. Hook grip is great but I wanted to really crush some reps today since I was feeling good so I strapped up to not worry about grip at higher reps.
With the exception of deadlifts I don’t think my form ever breaks down. For me, failure is the same as technical failure. But if a slow rep is considered technical failure then I’m a liar. I have slow reps but I don’t think my knees cave in or anything weird on squats. I’m not really sure how to botch my form on bench.
naw, slow reps are those that make you grow… I hope since I have some pretty slow reps off the floor on DL (I may work some deficits later to work on that)
You’re a beast… when you get back to 100% and fully eating your way back to 240#, you’re going to be really throwing around some weight - will be fun to follow along!
I’m going to need some serious help with these when I start doing them. I’ve only ever done them with lower weight for a METCON. I’m sure I can pick up some serious pointers from you on those!
Well, I’m back… Not sure when I’m going to start logging my workouts again as I’m not sure what they hell I’m going to do just yet. I’ve moved (again) to South Florida now and I’m back ready to get back to grinding with y’all.
