Retards Down Under?

I live in Sydney and it happens quite a lot, especially in some places, and at certain times - like Saturday night, when lots of people are drunk.

Are you sure it was an Aussie who hit him? There are a lot of tourists here who get pretty rowdy too.

What are the specifics - time, and suburb? There are some nasty areas in the inner city, and there are some suburbs you wouldn’t want to go to during the day let alone at night.

Sydney has a lot of suburbs that are like a world unto themselves. Some Sydney people would read what I have written and think “no way, Sydney is perfectly safe” but they might be completely insulated from the worst areas. I know a lot of people who not only have never been to those areas, they have never heard of them.

Having said all that, guns and knives are illegal in Sydney. So anyone with a gun is probably out to commit a crime, not a random act of violence. (not always true, but most of the shootings are gang and crime related). Most people do not carry knives, but some do.

The downside of that is, most people don’t expect to confront a weapon, so they may be more likely to start fisticuffs.

I’ve known quite a few get attacked for no reason, just walking down the street. Being a big scary bodybuilder is no security, it probably just makes you more of a target for a bigger initial hit.

Again, having said all that, mostly you would not have a problem.

I’ve been to Canada and it is much more “chill” than here. This city is very intense, fast paced with work / traffic and then people like to let off steam. People get worked up over sports events etc… and there is plenty of booze related stuff.

But again, it is mostly a very safe place as long as you avoid the trouble spots / times, and if you don’t avoid them, if you are a little bit aware.

You can walk around and completely let your guard down 100% most of the time but if you go to say Kings Cross (the redlight district) on Saturday night where tonnes of tourists are + locals + everyone is drunk as can be then you might get problems if you find yourself picked on.

There are also suburbs and hangouts that are dominated by a specific ethnic group(s) who might pick on you because you aren’t.

Sounds like a great place to visit. I’d love to go, and at least I had an excuse knowing a friend with a place there. All in all they really like Oz, guess just this incident and the fact there wedding is next week, gonna be some nice wedding pictures, yikes! Can just imagine with mouth wired shut and can’t eat your wedding dinner.
Either way I still have to make it down there, I’ll have to find out all the seedy areas so I can visit each one.

I have spent a lot of time in Sydney, but never lived there so there are probably some other aussies that can tell you a bit more.

Frankfurt, Prague, Vienna, and several other European cities I can’t remember the names of that I spent many nights in were pretty damn safe. I remember seeing families out to the wee hours in the downtowns of many major cities in Germany, Holland, and Austria.

Now some of the towns in England on the other hand. Holy shit, I’ve never seen and been involved in so many fights in such a short period of time.

I went to England and Wales as a young fella, and got in heaps of fights with the local ratbags. Every time I walked down this alley in Wales on the way home these kids would kick their soccer ball at me, so I would hit one and then we’d fight.

Good old days, when kids didn’t take weapons to school lol.

retards from down under??? are you serious your mate probably got 'rolled cause he was walking around the western suburbs after dark and playing a target. Hope he is better people are mental all over the world

lol. Aye, now, in the day of the almighty chav empire, on which the sun never sets, fights are not what they used to be. Fights with chavs, which seem to be the only fights these days follow the criteria of what I believe is known as the chav manifesto.

Chav Manifesto
If youz gonna get in a fight-like, be sure youz gonna win, init?

Methods-like:

  1. For every person you is fightin-like, make sure youz got at least 3 mateyz. However, perfection would be a humble 8 to 1 ratio-like.

  2. Beat up/kill old peoplez. They is near de end anywayz, so why not help dem along AND brush up your flying kick skillz init? (skillz killz, remember dis)

  3. Since you is well’ard and is not f^@%ing about-like, alwayz take a blade bruv, cos it is well scary and you never know when youz gonna need to take out your teacher/headmaster/parentz.

THE MANIFESTO HAS SPOKEN! NOW GO FILL YOUR DUTIES YOU BOOM TUGS, INIT!?

You have been warned.

i know its going off topic but that post made me laugh. then die a little inside.

ive been in so many fights with chavs its unbelievable.

No one country has a monopoly on drunken violence, yet there is considerable evidence Australia and England are making a pitch for it.

I was born in Manchester, although I migrated to Australia when I was young and essentially grew up here - ergo I identify myself as an Australian. That said, I’ve done my fair bit of travelling and must say there are parts of the UK and Australia that are distinctly threatening.

Currently, I live in Melbourne, and, to be honest, the city is quite cosmopolitan and safe. Now if you were to venture into the inner city suburbs that would be different. At the same time Sydney has some social and cultural issues that are perhaps not representative of the rest of Australia (see the Cronulla riots for instance).

Whilst it is not possible to comment on the specific incident that sparked this thread, there has been unquestionable increase in alcohol related violence over the last couple of years in Australia sympathetic with its Anglo origins. Not only has the type of random violence increased in quantiy but also savagery.

In all reality most Aussies are, as you might expect, hard working, easy-going and friendly. However, and I wish I knew the reason why, the pointless type of bashing initially discussed is becoming an increasing issue.

In Sympathy J.

random acts of fights happen everywhere
and that sucks, my younger brother
who doesnt have a mean bone in his body
and very laid back, was jumped by three
guys on his way back home from the
store in broad daylight. this was in
tallahasee,FL. the guys were not caught. and my brother is ok and this
happened about 2 yrs ago.

I’ve never been to Sydney, but I saw “Finding Nemo”. Stay away from the dentists there - they’re wackos.
