There is no debate…Atheists win hands down.

Oh yeah?! I got money on these guys, and the faithful they will lead, when Commander-in-Chief Pope Benedict sounds the rallying horn!

Cause they’d die of laughter…What a job, I bet their backs just kill them at the end of the day…I wonder if chicks dig that uniform.

Yes, because all those fanatics not believing in an afterlife will fight and kill to make you see it their way…
Because it all makes so much sense in the light of Atheism…
Die Believer!
There is no God and no one was his prophet!
ohh ohh…let me lead the army, I have been called upon by no god to do so…and I can prove it!
You only want to ride naked on a white stallion, covered in blood.
I see right through you.
Since that would make a powerful image and we need our atheist Jeanne D´Arc, I might get back to you.

Lol…Damn my transparency. However I’m afraid the only fodder I have for photoshop is me in a party dress with a glass of vodka and red bull…sidesaddle perhaps?

MC, you have the best screen name. Whenever I see it, I always envision a bottle like the one above, filled with gasoline, with a flaming rag stuffed in the top.
Actually, I also envision that Halloween picture of you as Sailor Moon, but we won’t go into that here. ![]()

Lol…I’m quite fond of the name myself, but I can’t take credit for inventing her, only knowing it would be a bitchin’ handle. That would be the brilliance of Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick of the animated show The Venture Brothers.
Meet Molotov:
:o)
Ah,and an edit in to recall the picture of that sailor moon costume… I forgot I ever posted it lol… That was two halloweens ago, this time around I was Alice In Wonderland…

Well, I sincerely expect you to go as Molotov next Halloween. Beats the pants off of Sailor Moon.
You know…I’m strongly considering it lol…I got the cigs, a red wig no problem…the accent, no problem. Just need me a heart eye patch. Hell I think I just want one anyway.
Lol… Yeah, I happened to come across that too. Nah, its not me. I’m much more mercenary like. :oP She looks a far cry shorter than me, but impressive nonetheless.
Don’t laugh.

Okay Chushin, since you asked nicely, here you go.
“Let there be no compulsion in religion: truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God has grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that never breaks. And God hears and knows all things.” 2:256
To attempt to spread Islam by force (i.e. compulsion) would therefore be in direct violation of the Qur’an.
The next ayat implies that God takes a dim view of fanatics who try to compel people in religious matters, and that they will end up in hell (everlasting fire).
So no, Pat. According to the Qur’an, they won’t be going to heaven, probably.
Well, mabey yes…mabey no
Islam has long upholded matyrdom for the cause of Islam as something that will take you to heaven but absolutely yes, the religious leaders have twisted this into heaven for suicide bombers and terrorists.
Iran twisted this idea of heaven for martyrs during the iran/iraq war when they enlisted young that were mabey 10-15 years old, to run at tanks with bombs strapped to them. The religious people gave em keys with a chain to put around their necks in order to remind them that they would be able to open the gates of heaven, now.
Oh well, I will give this for Islam, they have used the idea of extreme faith rather well for themselves.

As opposed to whom? Martyrdom has been “upholded” (sic) by every group since the dawn of time.
Not that I doubt the possibility the Iranians may have done that, but I sure would like to see something backing up that claim.
And just for the record, it was Iraq that attacked Iran. A better description would be the war on Iran by Iraq. Also worth noting is that Saddam was heavily armed - thanks to the West. He had ten times more military aircrafts and six times more tanks than the Iranians.

Hey, don’t say anything negative about Iran now.
BTW, the poster you responded to never said Iran attacked Iraq.
Who armed the Iranians? Why aren’t you pissed at them?

Did the Iranians wage a war of aggression on anyone?

You bring up a couple of points and I’ll try to awnser them here.
Yes, Martyrdom has been upheld by a lot of other groups, even christianity but the difference between Christianity and Islam’s concept of martyrdom is that while Christianity would have its members killed for it’s religion, Islam has historically wanted those killed to actually do something to advance it. This more aggressive conccept was shown in the Iran-Iraq war.
If you want a link here is a post made in the Iran Defense forum but you certainly don’t need that to find this out, all I had to do was google in " Iran-Iraq war" and “boys keys” and I’ve come to numerous mentionings of this.

Well, there was that invasion of Greece…

I believe there’s a fundamental difference that makes a large scale reformation less likely.
Again, Christianity had as it’s very base, a pacifist Christ, apostles, and early martyrs to reform itself to. That is to say, not in opposition to it’s very foundation.
My point is that Islam has…well, Muhammad and his message from Medina and beyond. Any possible reformation would move fowards in spite of it’s very foundation. I believe this could make things much more difficult.
What I misunderstood at first was your point about the 30 year war.
I know this is from early in the thread but I felt it was an important that this be clarified. The majority of Muslims consider Muhammad to have been a practical pacifist, that is that he only fought when it was necessary to survive and only for as long as it was necessary. I’m not going to argue about what it says in the Qur’an as I’ve never read it, but this is the general perception and how the history is taught.
