Resting Heart Rate - What's yours?

This time last year (March 2023) I was almost 16 stone (I’m just over 5ft 8"). I didn’t do any exercise, I wasn’t eating healthy foods regularly and was drinking alcohol 2 to 4 days per week.

I am now floating around 11st 8lbs. I exercise 6 days per week (3 x 1hr minimum cardio focused, 3 x 1hr minimum strength focused). My resting heart rate was close to 80 bpm a year ago, it has now dropped to 40 most of the time - although went to 38 this evening. That said, I feel perfectly fine. I had a heart CT 3 years ago due to family history - which reported 100% health heart.

The stats I have come from Apple Watch as well as a separate blood pressure monitor and SP02 monitor for comparison. Average readings

  • Resting heart rate average around 40.
  • Blood pressure average is around 134 / 85.
  • SP02 doesn’t drop below 95 really (usually 98 to 100).

I appreciate this is not a medical forum. Just to keen to understand what readings others see. I have not been into fitness before, so keen to understand what is normal.

Not a TRUE resting heart rate, since it was taken at the doctor’s office rather than upon waking, but close enough.

usually around 44 as measured by an oura ring.
I once had 38 post local ana. surgery - remember that number as that is when the alarm in the wake up room went off for HR being too low lol.

I’ve tracked mine for a few years now.

Take my example with a grain of salt because when I started lifting 3.5 years ago I was 296lbs at 5’7 and my BMI was WTF. Age 42.

At thst point resting heart rate was about 65.

The lowest I’ve gotten it is 49. Currently averaging 55.

Current weight is 270, age 47, still have a high BMI but I have noticeably higher muscle mass. I’ve been told I have more of a power lifter physique which I take to mean that I look like a strong fat dude.

The holidays are always the worst. Usually by November my rhr is down near 49, but after the holidays it’s up around 58-62.

Its all the shit carbs that are so hard to avoid during that time.
