Reset, Reboot, and Reload

confusion: I doubt I’m that tough. Masochistic - probably.

minimal: It’s not wrapped around as in a forehead noose. My head is the end wheel on a conveyor belt and the resistance band is the belt. Yeah, I’m not sure what corrmhona is up to lately. Eerily quiet.

I did get myself a Mr. Heater forced air propane heater. 38000 BTU and fairly compact so it does not eat up a lot of space. I gave it a test drvie and it’s pretty good. The main thing is it moves the air around. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Propane/38000-BTU-Forced-Air-Propane-Heater/8432361.p

20131204 - Wk1D3 - BP

Warm-up - YWTLs

Bench Press (superset w/ 10 face pulls w/ green band)
50x5, 70x5, 85x3
90x5, 105x5, 115x11
5x10@70

DB Row
4x10@50

That was killer ( in a good way). I changed my grip to a full wrap-around vs. a false grip. My fingers are nice and sore but I got more out of the movement. Better activation. I do have to watch it as I do get wrist issues on occasion - tendinitis and such. My target on the rows was 60lbs but I picked it up and thought better of it. Couldn’t even start the fifth set I was so fried.

I love Mr. Heater!! I got it cooking for five minutes before starting and kept it going full blast. About fifteen minutes in the workout I had to turn it down. The ball of steam that came out of the garage when I opened the big door was awesome.

The hips are wickedly sore from squatting the other day. I figured part of the lower back being overworked was not a wide enough stance. Once I did that I could sink a lot deeper and get a good dynamic stretch on. My back was better braced and less leaning forward. The skin on my back was pinched by the bar near the end of the session. What an awesome bit of pain. No, I’m really not a masochist.

nice work Crushed. keep it up

And how does the Mrs. feel about your new relationship with Mr. Heater?

She’s ‘warming’ to it…
crickets

Of course you are. We wouldn’t be doing this stuff if we didn’t like a little pain.

Time for a complete reset. I let my weight get out of control due in part to winter depression and a nice list of apathetic excuses. I started a low-carb diet as my GERD was getting to an intolerable point. Went from 323 to 303, took a vacation in Texas and went up to 311 as I went off the diet completely. This morning I weighed in at 305 and slowly getting the diet under control.

I’ll be doing Strong Lifts which is essentially Starting Strength but I’ll be using the SL spreadsheet to determine training weights. I’ll use the beginner weights and start right from the bar only.

Mar29-Wk1,Day1

Squat - warm-up of 5 reps x 2 sets at bodyweight
5x5@45
Bench Press - 5x5@45
Barbell Row - 5x5@65 (felt some tendinitis tweak after this)

Very simple but I feel depleted, but it’s understandable.

Time to suck it up and train like a beginner again. I’m too lazy to actually start a new thread. That is my punishment for non-stickin-to-it-the-first-time.

No need to start a new thread, I’ve stopped and started mine twice the last 2 years. Anyway we are happy to have you back. Don’t forget the playlists

Hey, everyone. The snow melted and we finally found Crushed Idiot.

Snow melted? I still have several inches on my lawn. 30% chance of more snow today and tomorrow.

Sorry, it’s been a hard winter here. Snowed last night and still lingering.

It’s been a long one. I think the fact that the wife and I went to Texas where it was between 60F and 82F got rid of most of the snow in the yard. There were even bare patches on the lawn when we got back. Then it snowed the next day.

Welcome back.

Did you drive to Texas?

Flew to Austin and spent just over a week at my cousin’s chilling out. SXSW was going on which is great for a music lover, but not a music snob like myself. Week two went to Johnson Space Center for a day then the remainder of the time in San Antonio. My second trip to Texas in this lifetime. We want to move to San Antonio. It’s a lot like Edmonton in many respects but no snow.

Mar31 Wk1D2

Squats - 5x5@50
OHP - 5x5@45
DL - 1x5@95

Worked out the DOMS from Saturday. Everything felt stupidly light as I was hoping and expecting. I’ll do 55 on Wednesday with the squats as per the plan but next week I’ll bump things by 10lbs each subsequent workout until I need a reset. I’m not waiting for June to hit 220 on squatting, frankly. OR change the workout frequency to every second day for an alternating 4-per-week/3-per-week schedule with the 5 lb increments

Apr 2 D3

Squat - 5x5@55
BP - 5x5@50
Rows - 5x5@70

Booorrriinngg., but it’s necessary. Given my propensity to overdo my lower back I have to put in the time. I will bump the schedule to a session every other day.

Did you eat some good old southwestern food?

Awesome San Antonio always has a little place in my heart, lived there for a year.

Yes, MT, had lots of awesome Mexican food. I may have to become a salsa connoisseur. I was not so much into the barbecue thing, but I think that’s a cultural gap. We don’t really go for the sauce loaded barbecue. Our concept of barbecuing is to grill on a barbecue (verb: to barbecue) and not eating barbecue (noun: slow cooked, sauce drenched meat).

Aha, an insider I can tap for information. Would you go back if you had the chance, Derek?
