Reracking Debate of 2010

Working at a gym makes me despise the people that don’t rerack everything, and subsequently makes me very conscious of it when I lift. There’s really zero point to leaving a 45 on each side of any barbell. Leg press maybe, but I don’t.

Lanky’s answer is correct.

I re rack. And sometimes do a little organization as I put them back <----anal too.

I’m amazed everyone here said they rerack. It seems like most people who go to the gym have no respect for the gym. This makes me proud of T-Nation ha

In my gym you can find any assortment of weights on every bar/machine in the place and even on the floor. I’ve seen people take the barbell off the bench, move it to the corner to do rows, and leave it there with weights and everything still on it. It’s also not uncommon to have to go look for lighter dumbells because women/skinny guys take them into the other room for use with bosu balls and leave them there.

The dirty powerlifting gym I used to workout at had a very strict rule of reracking and it was beautiful. Why people would get off the couch to go ‘workout’ and then be too lazy to rerack is beyond me.

List of people I hate:
-Those who don’t tip their waitress
-People who litter
-People tell pointless lies
-People who don’t clean up after themselves

/rant

I rerack everything I use because it annoys me when others don’t, or if they leave the rack in the wrong order! The only time it’s a pain is deadlifting and using the the leg press for calf raises. One because it’s a pain to bend over after DLing, and two because calf raises need a lot of weight to do any good.

WAIT A MINUTE I THOUGHT EVERYBODY WARMED UP WITH 135?!?!?!?!

Just men who can eat a 5lb cheesesteak in one sitting.

I agree with this.

I don’t use the leg press often, but every male that uses it shouldn’t go lighter than a 45 per side, and most women should ask their personal trainers to let them do enough squats first so that a 45 on either side is something they can use too…even if for their top sets.

But here’s the thing many people have missed ( I haven’t read the whole thread)…here in Taiwan there’s a plethora of 25s,10s, 5s and even 2.5s all over the Hammer equipment and on every bar.
I’ll take a pic sometime, it’s messy with little plates at my gym.

Strip it

I strip that shit and put it where it belongs.
I hate picking up after lazy assholes.
I have been known to ask people to put the weights away if I notice they are done with them, esp. on the squat rack. D-bags must want people to be impressed with their 10 rep 185lb 1/2 squats.

It seems that this debate has made me into the asshole, will start reracking the weights fully from now on.

I re-rack everything, and I also am kind of anal about the dumbells.

Guys who leave hundreds of pounds on the bar are being douches.

I just walk away and leave everything as it is, plates all over the floor and a general mess.

(I work out at home, ha)

You have anal at your gym??

You’re lucky. Mine just has a water fountain:(

What about the poor bastard who has to use it after you!

always unload it. And even if I didnt get the bench sweaty wipe it off. I usually organize and clean up in between sets like some of the others have said. I guess I am anal about this stuff.

I strip everything, organize the DB’s AND put the “right” weights in the “right” place on the squat rack.

<======= Anal retentive OCD gym rat!

The good thing is that the trainers know it and appreciate it so they don’t bitch at me for dropping weights or using chalk or staying a little late to finish up if it’s a long day.

Edit: AND if I’m in a gym with the old style 45’s (as opposed to the one’s with handles), I make sure the lip of the 45 is facing the “right” way! LOL

Yes, Hungry, my gym rocks that way. There seems to be a trend here. Heavy lifters – anal about organization. Interesting.

She usually gets pissed when she stubs her toe on a 25 laying on the floor =D
