Religion of Peace

Any way you slice it, the tiny minority routine your so fond of referring to, yields rather deadly results.

Yes, it does. The reason for that is their fanatic devotion transcending life. You can do a lot more damage if you’re not afraid of dying.

Pick most any spot in the world…Muslims seem to have a problem getting along with anyone - without resorting threatening or resorting to violence.

I could tell you the same thing about Jews. Except that it’s been going on for ages in their case.

Could you help me understand the lack of outrage in the Islamic world for all the carnage and misery being meted out on the poor folks in Darfur - by those few bad apples?

The Darfur conflict has very little to do with religion. That’s at least the picture painted to me by inhabitants of the region on both sides. I cannot begin to express my disgust at the decision of the Arab league to turn a blind eye to the massacre. I decided to go there to see what’s happening for myself this summer.

Or, your thoughts on the following?
Muslims converts face ostracism in France

You should see what’s happening in Algeria! It’s even worse. The rate of converts peaked after 9/11 thanks to scaremongering media.

But you’re comparing apples and oranges. What would happen if a guy in the Vatican decided to convert? Or a Pole? Or an Israeli? Chances are they’ll be just as rejected by their families as whoever was mentioned in your article.

Also, how about all the aggressions, threats and other abuses faced by Muslim communities in the US and the UK after 9/11 and 7/7 respectively? Were they the act of a few bad apples or were did they have general consent? Do these acts give me the right to say that Americans and Brits are savages?
You wrote regarding Darfur:

“I decided to go there to see what’s happening for myself this summer.” I howeled when I read that. Yes, after school gets out, why don’t you “see what’s happening” and let the rest of us know what you learned from getting a bird’s eye view. Be sure to toss in some blame for the situation on the US, or the Israel.

Please also include a paragraph or two about the indignity you suffered, in case you were “profiled” when going through airport security.

As for Jews not getting along with folks. Please provide me with a recent list of incidents of the trains, planes, and automobiles they are blowing up all over the world as a result of their conflict with others.

You might want to spend some of your summer in Australia, engaged in a “peaceful” dialogue with some of the up and comming “bad apples” in that part of the world.

hi
my eyes have been glued to the screen for most of the afternoon, carefully reading this thread and going on the links given.

i am a christian but if you want to get into the details, i am a roman catholic. i do not go to church but i do believe in god. i do believe that as far as monotheism goes, muslims, christians and jews worship the same god because of the ideal of oneness. however as religion goes, they arnt the same.

i now live in england but i was born in mauritius. its a tropical island in the indian ocean, close to madagascar and australia. it is bursting with different cultures and races. churches are only a few blocks away from mosques. even though most of the time we live peacefully with each other, we do hate each others guts there, and i have been witness to a religion and race war.

i will say this. i have no muslim friend.i hate muslims. i hated muslims before the events of 9/11. maybe its because i went to the same school as them and i know how they are. muslims are hypocrites. we all are, but muslims are worse. they will smile to you, say that they are friends, but truthfully they hate you because you are a non muslim.
muslims see non muslims as infidels and un worthy. some go as far as terrorism, and the rest just decide to suffer the pain of smiling to us.
i just totally disagree with the idea of friendly muslims.
there are two options.IRRADICATE RELIGION.destroy the idea of religion, burn down all holy places and all holy books and brainwash the entire human population into forgetting religion, or solve the muslim problem.
i am just sharing my personal views here, thats all.

Additionally. There are probably a few real Christians in the world. But their numbers would be a distinct minority. The vast majority are Christian in name only, they goto church maybe, they read the Bible, maybe, they talk about God, maybe, but mostly they take in only what is convenient for their life and discard the rest.

They claim the name Christian, but when faced with forgiving a murderer or letting him die, they will choose the latter. Or they will talk about peace and union, unconditional love, all that hippy shit that Jesus was into, until it is time to goto War, in which case they are decidedly HUMAN.

There is nothing wrong with that. We are all human. The problem is, people put their Religion in front of their actions, or behind them, and they try and write off everything they do not want to hold responsibility with onto their beliefs. Worse still, they profess the teachings of their religion only when it suits them, and disregard them when it doesn’t.

That is not faith or devotion at all, and that is why there are so few actual Christians in the world.

It is the same way with nearly every Religion.

People use religion to step aside from personal responsibility. They want to not have to be answerable for their humanity. They want a deity, a superbeing to tell them it is all cool.

So you follow some of the teachings of Christ, but not all of them, so you follow some of the words in the Bible but not all of them. That’s fine, keep doing it, do what you want, but at least be honest with yourself.

Truth be told, no one can really be expected to follow any of the holy books to the letter, especially in this day and age. Because the holy books were written for a different age. They are not applicable anymore, and the followers have had to adjust their definitions of interpretation in order to keep them alive.

I do not expect you to follow the Bible to the letter, nor do I expect you to be like jesus(heck, you probably hate hippies anyway, who doesn’t)

But, for you to call yourself a Christian when you so freely and readily hate, is just silly. Grow a pair and don’t hide behind your labels.

I’m thinking the word Christian means that you believe Jesus Christ is your savior and/or the son of God.

I’m pretty sure no one will argue that many Christians think of themselves as without sin. Only that we will hopefully be forgiven for the ones we commit.

You know, the whole “Jesus died for our sins” thing. Maybe it’s just me.

(PS, I subscribe to the “eye for an eye” punishment. I believe that was in the Bible.)

“If you own two coats while another man owns one, you are not truly Christian.”

“Most people are concerned with their own bellies, and other peoples souls. They need to be more concerned about their own souls, and other peoples bellies.”

Do you really think Jesus would have viewed Islamists (in general) as evil (this question is directed at everyone)?

Seriously, I can’t believe I’m saying this but… What would Jesus do? Would he condemn the whole Muslim religion? From what I’ve read, Jesus was quite the tolerant guy…

i totally agree with what you have said.it makes a lot of sense.

to derek: isn’t the “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” a jewish teaching??correct me if i’m wrong

yeah jesus was quite the tolerant guy, but he could also have had some issues with some people too.i didnt know him personally so i won’t comment on this.

He was tolerant of many things but he was pretty intolerant when it came to religious matters.

exodus 21:23-21:2723If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand.

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and on and on. That’s how it goes in my Bilbe. I don’t know about all the others.

(and yes, it has Hebrew roots but it’s still in my Christian Bible.)
Zap Branigan wrote:

Such as?

How does anyone know what Jesus knew or thought? He could have been the biggest hypocrite alive but no one could possible know that. The only thing we know about Jesus is what other people wrote about him–and who even knows how accurate it is or if they even knew him? We don’t even know if such a person as Jesus existed. That’s why religion requires faith.

Ummm dude, that’s three of the five books of the Torah. Christians are a bunch of plagiarizers.

Great thread!

Anyway, does anyone know WHY Muslims came to the Western countries? If their own countries and cultures aren’t good enough for them, why the hell would they come here and bitch ? We took them in and they sound as bad as the assholes back in their old homesteads.

I say: simply refuse to allow any more immigration and offer all here to leave, if they don’t like it here.

To my Muslim Brothers: There are 19 reasons to read the Koran. Or is it 19^19, or some higher power? (inside joke)
