Religion Catch All

I have heard people argue that porn was one of the big tools used to push that idea, starting off with Playboy and as we see now getting more and more explicit and freaky. It was like why settle with one woman and have kids when you could be banging all of these girls? The funny thing is Hugh Hefner was into men.

Movies and TV also played a large part. Lately there is a TV channel here showing some old James Bond movies and I watched a few, in every movie he’s fucking 5+ different girls, no strings attached, no kids, nothing.

It already was accepted in places like Rome and Greece, the birthplace of democracy

Yup, and at the same time Helen Gurley Brown and various novels pushing the notion that middle-class Plain Jane should only seek a thrilling, gorgeous rich man or bad boy or perhaps go through several of them. Like the promise to men, this didn’t work for many because such men can only settle down with one woman or Juggle so many if he’s promiscuous. And promiscuous men usually only seek women to have sex and temporary companionship. And some rich and powerful men can hog up the fertility cycles of several women, resulting in low investment parenting in some cases.

What harmony.

I still aim to answer your questions this week.

When you look at it that way, it basically means that the result of success is kids either being aborted or raised by slutty single mothers.

Really? Could you provide proof? I’ve heard grotesque stories of playboy models being told they need to “entertain” Hugh Hefner.

I prefer playboy to most modern pornography. I find modern pornography is highly aggressive and typically rather degrading to women. I don’t believe pornography is meant to replicate the dynamics of realistic sexual interaction. It appears as if the use of excessive force and/or domination is common within modern pornography, I’m not sure as to why this has become mainstream within XXX material.

Talking about modern, secular, democratic societies. Let’s not have this conversation again though. We will both get annoyed at one another.

I’m looking forward to it, I won’t be able to give you an adequate response until next week at the earliest though.

Yup, both are results of the revolution. Christianity, for al the current day bashing it received, was an adaptive religion that kept much of this in check.

There are also stories from girls who lived in his house that when he would have the girls in his room so he could fuck them he would have gay porn playing on TVs in the room. He spent too much time looking at naked women and lost interest it seems.

Why not? It would be very progressive, wouldn’t it? Canada legalized non-penetrative bestiality a few years ago and “erotic zoos” are popular in Germany, anything goes nowadays.

As much as there are reasons to criticize Christianity, the alternative presented is infinitely worse.

That’s not possible, you’re either homosexual/bisexual or you aren’t. You can’t turn gay from having too much heterosexual sex.

Perhaps he was closeted?

I disagree.

@BrickHead whilst you may follow Christianity/catholicism, do you still identify as Jewish?

There were other components in the revolution too with the powerful media pushing the notion that husbands, fathers, generally were Homer Simpson’s, Al Bundys, and Archie Bunkers, either doofuses that didn’t know how to do much or bigots with “authoritarian personalities”.

Actually a common trope is that nearly all of our ancestors were backwards people, when meanwhile, despite their lack of accolades, degrees, and iPhones had more life skills, wisdom, coping skills and better intuition, than we will ever have and harder-headed than we will ever be.

Well I’m only one class for RCIA in, last night. If all goes well, I’ll be done with it by Easter. My ethnicity/race will always be Jewish; it’s unchangeable.

Agree with this.

Out of curiosity why have you chosen to follow the philosophical teachings preached within catholicism as opposed to judaism?

I apologise if this question is too intrusive/personal.

Religion isn’t just a philosophical/ faith based thing. It also involves a development of community and positive interactions with people who share the same values. My family was Buddhist/Taoist until my parents were in their teens and my father met my mother who was a Catholic and everyone eventually converted. They still believe in certain Asian religious/cultural myths which are completely opposite of the bible.

No biggie. As said, this answer requires a chunk of time and thought. So I plan on answering some time during the week when I can really think.

A small part of the answer that requires not much introspection is one of being pragmatic. Only in recent years did I conclude that religion is of high importance but I was still atheistic. But I for some time wanted a religious household, and I married a white Catholic woman and have two baptized kids. So I just went to mass with her and sometimes her family here and there and I actually enjoyed it. So in picking a religion for a practical reason I didn’t have to play eeny-meeny -miney -moe.

But it was recently I started to actually pay attention during mass and that’s when things hit me.

I’ll try to continue later on.

Exactly. This is what I want to expand upon.

I think these things are complex which is why I generally stay out of atheism vs religion debates.

My own personal morality and values were not derived from anything in the bible nor the Catholic faith despite being Catholic. They are a combination of Confucianism, Buddhism and “street laws” passed down from anti-Qing government revolutionaries that only kids who grew up in shitholes know lol.

To put it crudely I always thought one utility that religion served was ensuring most men found a mate and that doing so would result in less division in society because ain’t no one more divisive than a horny dude not getting any.

When you tear down the constraints imposed upon society by religion then ironically I think we have shift back to a default of what occurs naturally in the animal kingdom. A few exceptionally handsome well put together gentleman are banging all the chicks on tinder.

The one statistic that always blew my mind was that on average women have 1 child produce by 50 percent of men and the other 50 percent of men never sire any children.

I am having a hard time finding the reference for the above statistic. Heard it from JP in one of his lectures. But I think geneticist came to that conclusion examining the lower degree of variability among Y chromosome versus mitochondrial DNA and thus somehow they were able to infer that rates at which men were procreating versus women.

This is a very easy read talking about it:

It took me a long time to come to this conclusion. I remember being 16 years old and having just read The God Delusion. A fantastic book that unfortunately put me off from all things to do with religion for the better part of a decade.

Still do not believe in god. Probably never will. But it is a fair question to ask if our society would be more beneficial without firmly entrenched values espoused by religion. Our deviation from a society predicated upon the tenets of religion is a bit of an experiment. Its been a bit of an experiment since the latter half of the 20th century.

I am not saying it is better or worse. All I am saying is we really don’t know what is going to happen and from what I have seen it seems like we are trending poorly in many areas. But that is just my opinion. But I do know it is shared by significant amount of people.

I remember watching an academic on youtube discuss how familial collapse drives androgyny and compared it the cultural climate in Rome preceding its collapse. Could that be what we are seeing today in our society?

Just food for thought. I don’t know much about anything. I was the kid in math class who had to verify simple arithmetic like 2 times 10 with the calculator because I couldn’t trust myself with such a simple calculation.

This is exactly what happened to a large degree, though not completely, from the revolution. After all, I’m not an alpha male, and I have a wife and children and same goes for my non-alpha friends.

An unregulated sexual marketplace is fine for a troop of baboons; it isn’t fine for a human civilization, as it leaves many men unproductive and apathetic because they have no or a very small stake in the world around them. Many men will not push themselves if there’s no incentive to do so, and even a hefty paycheck isn’t going to be all that rewarding to most if they live a lonely life and no children.
