recommended dosage

For everyone taking glucosamine or MSM. What are you finding works best for you, this especially for people with knee problems. Thanks.

I’ve tried glucosamine and honestly didn’t notice it helped me any. My left knee gets irritated if I do too much cardio on the elliptical trainer or treadmill, stationary bike seems fine though. I notice it got much better when I started supplementing with fish oil capsules 6 grams a day.
Hope that helps!
Pete

Second the fish oil, if you are not supplementing it now it can be of a great help.

As far as MSM, I started it two weeks ago with good results so far @ 1000mg twice a day.

Tampa terry posted about this somewhere else. He likes the cosamin brand of glucosamine and condroiton as it has the correct molecular weight (most don’t and that could be why it isn’t working.) I take 3-6 of those/day and I take 5-15 grams of powder msm…

Hey, there, juicedup20. A therapeutic dosage for glucosamine sulfate is 500mg 3 or 4 times a day. The beneficial results of glucosamine sulfate become evident the longer that it is used, though results are evident within 4 weeks of beginning supplementation.

Glucosamine sulfate is a very effective treatment for osteoarthritis. It is believed that osteoarthritis is caused by the body’s inability to manufacture endogenous glucosamine sulfate.

Since glucosamine is made in the body through an enzymatic reaction in which a glucose molecule is joined with the amino acid glutamine, it would seem to be an excellent supp for anyone whose joints, ligaments or tendons are challenged, especially if they are on a low-carb or ketogenic diet.

I’ve done a fair amount of research on the therapeutic dosage of MSM, but there doesn’t seem to be a consesnus. I’d recommend about 5-6g per day. Start with 1g on Day 1, 2g on Day 2, 3g on Day 3, 4g on Day 4, 5g on Day 5 and finally 6g Day 6 onwards. Take it in 3 divided doses. MSM like glucosamine sulfate will help with pain and inflmmation and is an important component of cartilage.

Surprisingly (and I can speak to this personally), glucosamine and MSM, both, play a role in the formation of tendons and ligaments, also. I’ve added both supps recently to my nutritional regimen, with the goal of supporting my joints. However, it seems to have helped with a case of acute tendonitis (lateral epicondylitis) I’ve been suffering with.

Thanks, Scrappy! That was a nice addition! (grin)

Juiced, I guess I should have added that the supps being recommended will be helpful if you do indeed have the begining stages of osteoarthritis. However, if you have other structural problems, it will not help. Give it a few months, and if you don’t get some relief, get to your doctor or to a physical therapist to identify the source of pain.

glucosamine sulphate 2500mg for the first 2 weeks post injury then 1500 for about 12 weeks after.
fixed my busted shoulder better than shoddy pain killer ever could. (not that it is 100% but i doubt it will ever be)
