Recommend a smartwatch or HR tracker?

Aloha friends,
Wife and I are interested in maybe, finally, getting some kind of wearable to track sleep quality, HR, and various other metrics.
Up for something GPS-enabled too, for tracking distance on outdoor runs, but OK with limited feature-sets and reduced complexity as well.
What have you guys and gals had good and bad experiences with?
Example questions:
-Do you wear when you sleep? Is it uncomfortable to sleep with?
-Do you wear when you train? Issues interfering with body movement (IE a ring) or a workout makes it think you’re having a heart attack?
-User experience, quality of device, quality of metrics… amount of effort needed to get value from… etc.

I don’t know what I don’t know to ask, either, so feel free to just brain dump your thoughts!

I use an Apple Watch to track workouts and a Oura ring to track sleep.

Apple Watch integrates with my phone. Is kind of a no brainer if you use an IPhone.

I have used Garmin watches in the past. Both of them lasted about two to 2 and a half years before needing replacing. My Apple Watch is going on 4 years old now and still strong.

Yup this is it. If you use Apple just get an Apple Watch. Integration is super easy. If non apple phone is used just get what you like. I have the Apple Ultra and really like it for both sleep and HR tracking.

Thanks. We use Androids. A quick Google tells me they aren’t compatible. Boo.
What kind of data do you get from Oura Ring @shaneinga ?

And much more. Each metric you see you can click on a dig into.

My wife and I both use Samsung watches for the same reason, as it integrates with our Samsung phones well. I track all my activities on Samsung health and it gives great metrics.
I got a great deal on the Watch 8 and have really been enjoying it!

I have a Garmin Venu 3. Before that I had an Apple Watch and before that a FitBit. I like the Venu the best because it gives me the most data about how ready I am to train, impact of specific types of workouts (this is mostly useful for cardio) and some data related to cycling that you probably won’t care about. It is comfortable to wear to bed – I looked at the larger Garmin watches and rejected them due to their size – and the battery goes several days before it needs a charge. When I was moving on from the Apple Watch, I looked at the Whoop and the Oura ring but rejected both because I didn’t want to pay an ongoing subscription.

I use a Garmin and like it well enough. My husband and sons all use Coros and really like them. They have more options for exercises than the Garmin does, but my Garmin is a bit old so they might have updates. They both work with Android.

Maybe look into the Google Pixel Watch. It looks like a good watch.
