Such a human thing to create something so capable of giving happiness, then find a way to remove all the joy from it.
That is too good of a quote!
Well, after a little experimentation, it looks like I get to add āmushroomsā to my list of ādo not eatā. F**k things are getting too restrictive.
Probably so, for sure. My concern would be having a one dimensional view of success. I believe weāve discussed balance in life before.
PM WORKOUT (1800)
Axle GRACE-ACE
Times: 2:48, 1:32
Notes: Ran Grace, rested 2 minutes, then ran half of it (15 reps). Gave it a dumb name. I like what Iāve come up with here. 2 minutes rest was actually a bit too long: 90 seconds next time. Fantastic way to make the heart explode.
Had wings again for a cheat meal. Iām craving flesh off the bone a lot more. Aggression is coming back again. Been watching MMA and missing it. Ahh: Deep Water.
Yeah. They can be pretty disruptive. There are some I get in the fall that will blow up even the most resilient digestive tract.
Tasty but volatile.
Relating to this whole segment of the convo, even though it has been about 15 years.
This is kinda a great place to be, but also has its drawbacks.
I used to be the post-meeting donut disposal. People would say very similar things. āGive them to him. He just turns it in to muscleā¦ā. Yeah, after a day of cutting trees, got home and lifted, jumped on my bicycle and rode to a meeting,
Also gonna ride my butt back home.
Yep. Donuts-> Muscle! Just like that!
This reminded me of a work trip I took years ago. I spent three weeks away in the hotel so I brought a shaker bottle and planned to just get a tub of protein when I was there.
I went to the GNC across the street and had the following conversation:
āHey man welcome, youāre only here for protein right?ā
āā¦yepā
āYeah thatās all thatās worth buying hereā.
Then he showed me the brand that had the least sugar and fillers at a decent price and which flavors to avoid that tasted like chemicals. It was a really solid shopping experience haha.
Not sure if I said before but years ago back in the UK , my misses used to work for a guy who had his own supplement business. I also knew him from the gym. I used to get all my supplements at cost which meant I tried lots of different things. I also used to be the taste tester for new products. Wife would come home with a bunch of different protein bars in zip lock plastic bags with hand written names and flavours of them. I would eat them and provide quality feedback, like the raspberry one taste like soap mixed with oil or the orange one tastes like the smell of toilet cleaner, or the peanut one is actually pretty good give me some more of that one please.
The company was garnell nutrition, I think they are still around in the Uk.
Suns out guns out mate. That looked brutal although the sun glare off your jacked rig made it hard to seeš
Did the log burn your skin?
@SkyzykS Thatās actually re-assuring coming from you as the resident expert on mushrooms. At least itās not uncommon. Sad to give them up: they seemed to have a lot of benefits, similar to the blueberries. And itās amazing how everyone assumes that everyone else has it easy like that. Frustrating.
@mr.v3lv3t I was like that when I worked at a sporting goods store. Common question was āWhich boxing equipment do you recommend?ā and Iād say āNothing we sell here: get on ringside.comā, haha.
@simo74 You know it dude! Gotta get that vitamin D, haha. And Iām just thankful the gleam isnāt coming off my dome. Keeping an eye on that hairline.
@tlgains Not the skin on my body, but my hands got a little toasty.

Notes: 2:20 between sets of benching, 2:00 between dips and push ups. First set of dips was immediately after the incline benching, and first set of push ups immediately after last set of dips. Final set of push ups was a dropset w/slingshot and metal catapult. Really solid benching day, especially with the early wake up and light breakfast. I went too heavy on the DBs, but Iām just enjoying the novelty of having more weight to play with. Next time Iāll throw in some rest pausing.
PM WORKOUT (1500)
10 rounds of
150lb keg carry
10 alternatin KB snatches
150lb keg carry
3 log viper presses w/100lb log
Notes: Wanted to get out into the sun, been missing strongman, and still like these Crossfit-ish WODS, so mixed it all up and made it awful. In reference to my most previous blog post, this was pure ādemonic conditioningā came up with it at lunch today and executed it. It was awful. Right patella is still being fussy and took a few laps to start playing nice. Sunblock ran into my eyes at one point. Very effective at breaking the lungs and body at the same time.
Lol I have been pretty lucky in the dome department, started going grey early but not losing too much. I love that vit d too but the sun in Melbourne is so intense I would burn if I did 20 mins without a shirt. I have a constant t shit tan line that ends up becoming multiple lines through summer as I wear different shirts.
I am a silver fox as well: started going Grey in my 20s. Itās why I keep my hair short, haha.
Same same if I let mine grow I just get white wire like curlies, itās not a good look
When I sold kids bikes I had similar conversations sometimes. Like, your son is going to hit a growth spurt in six months and youāll have wasted a big chunk of change. They never listened though.
Also very glad to hear Iām not alone in my early greyness.
Iāve always said I donāt care what colour my hair goes as long as it stays. Iāve got to admit itās a losing battle soon and go the buzzcut route though.
Just read your latest piece Pwn. High quality as always my man
So true about folk asking too many dumb ass conditioning questions and once again putting more energy into worrying and thinking than actually doing
I will literally grab my kids and do high rep squats. Itās a brutal workout as well. All over the body.
Guys, Pwn didnāt reach his level by thinking. He got there by working. His know how has developed through work. Not sitting around thinking āoh but but does this exercise go with this and will this weight do thatā
Taming the iron like a artisan blacksmith my man. Keep it burning
I was listening to Goggins and Jocko yesterday while working out and one of the things Goggins said that was just so simple and rad was something like
Everybodyās always worried about overtraining. Well motherfucker youāve gotta train first before you can be overtrained. Stop thinking and start doing.
People have such a low standard for hard work
For most of us the time we spend in the gym is literally the only hard or manual work we ever do. Manual labour in most industries is being phased out and very few of us have land to work or any hard labour to do at home. We have become soft and used to comfort. Thatās why a slightly difficult training or conditioning session if thought of to be so hard! My dad is over 70 and laughs often at people who complain things are hard. Heck he still goes to the gym 5 days a week and most days will do 3 conditioning sessions back to to back, spin followed by pump followed by a Hiit session. I went with him once and thought I was going to puke after just the spin. Crazy old bugger. He also goes to the classes cause thatās where all the best looking girls go!! Lol
I think itās Wendler, or someone Wendler-adjacent who said āoh poor me, I live in a country where food is so plentiful and my life is so physically undemanding I have to invent work just to stop myself becoming fat and grossā. Iām paraphrasing heavily there, but the sentiment stuck with me.
