I remember back before I started lifting I used to play basketball at this gm when I was a skinny high school kid. The bodybuilders would come in for a run after lifting and I could move them around like feathers and these guys were pretty big. I remember saying to myself “damn they look stronger than really are”. At that moment I realized big doesn’t mean strong.

at that moment you should have realised they didn’t want to hurt a skinny highschool kid.
But NOooooo, it HAS to be that he was so much stronger as a little high school kid that he was just tossing around “bodybuilders” on a basketball court (because basketball and lifting weights are so interchangeable).

I let my little cousin punch me in stomach. I acted like it hurt. I guess we’ll be hearing similar in a few years about how weak I am.

All State with a college scholarship. You’re an idiot too. Kevin Garnett is skinny by bodybuilding standards but he’d push Lee priest all over the court…post a pic or stfu!!!

Man, and here I thought that you had to lift heavy shit to get bigger. How silly of me for not realizing the truth all this time.

Starting tomorrow I am doing a 3x100 routine for every bodypart using those pink little dumbbells. I’m gonna be hyooooge, will report back with progress. Wish me luck!

tastes great, less filling.

how about both?

how about following a powerlifting and/or strongman type template where you max out or something close to it on the big basic free weight lifts (squats, deads, good mornings, benches, and overhead presses,) and then follow up with higher rep assistance lifts to help both strengthen and hypertrophy the musculature that is involved and/or supports the classic lifts?

this is not news. problem solved. this whole thread can go away now.

Jimmy, your threads bring out the worst in people.

Strength in today’s society means nothing. There is NO need to be strong, because everything is done for us. The only reason to get strong is because you want to, wether it be for self validation or to impress other people.

Point is, strength isn’t necessary for surival and is irrelevant.

People get strong and big because they want to, not because they have to.

Oh, and please cut the fucking shit about muscular guys not being strong. Show me ONE normal man who can outsquat an IFBB pro. Slimthugger you must’ve been mauled by the stupid stick.

I’m pretty sure lee priest could push kevin garnett anywhere he wanted to. But still would lose a basketball game. Why the hell lee priest would push someone or play basketball is beyond me.

what is the point you are trying to make?

I have a real life example from my own experience in the past. I wanted to get bigger so was trying differnt exercise programs to see how my body responds.

I did a pumping program where I used light weights and high volume to increase the size of my muscles. When I say light, I mean light: 45 pound lat pull downs, 50 pound BARBELL curls, 135 pound bench press and so on.

The crazy thing is that my muscles got larger, I mean very large very quickly where people thoughtI was taking something. My arms grew big fast where even I was getting nervous about the fast results. My point is that yes people everywhere I went constanlty commented on my size, yet I never wanted people to know how weak I actually was.

When people needed help moving something big and heavy they would call me for help thinking it would be a piece of cake for me. In reality I had so much trouble that they would have been better off without my help. From a physique stand point yes I looked good, but for the size I had, I was completely useless for helping others move. I say that gaining muscle mass without strength is pointless. Now I have the size and strength to back it up.

I have a very strange feeling that you just might be full of shit.

I could be wrong.

But, I don’t think so.
Judging by his other threads and posts I’d say he’s just a little misguided.

OP
You say you are a competing bodybuilder, correct?

If doing 50 lb. barbell curls makes your arms grow faster than using heavier weight, why on earth would you choose the method that resuts in slower progress?

I can’t see how trying to be as big/conditioned as possible and as strong as possible at the same time will result in anything but mediocrity in both.
Isn’t max OT designed to be optimal for making one as big and strong as possible? it seems to be working very well for me. Jeff Willet and Skip LaCour are pretty badass too and they use it
