Real Life Situations

When a person has trained for a significant amount of time and has become truly big, they are strong. If you think you were big on you “pumping iron” nonsense, but weak, the TRUE fact of the matter is that you were not really big. Alot of people have a skewed idea of what a big person is.

Anyone at 250 Lbs. or better is not going to be “weak” by anyones definition. To get bigger, you have to get stronger, it’s called progression, and if you don’t know what that is, you don’t know how to train either.

You want an example of an inverse relationship between mass and strength. To get stronger you would use a rep range of 1-3 for very low sets.

See what happens when a bodybuilder who trains in the 8-12 range for high sets changes to a system that only requires him to use 1-3 reps for low reps. I can gaurantee that he will lose muscle mass if he stays on that program for the long haul.

better not guarantee that buddy boy, I’ve been training in that rep range for years and have put on nearly 100 lbs. of LBM.

This was great

I have a real life example from my own experience in the past. I wanted to get bigger so was trying differnt exercise programs to see how my body responds.

I did a pumping program where I used light weights and high volume to increase the size of my muscles. When I say light, I mean light: 45 pound lat pull downs, 50 pound BARBELL curls, 135 pound bench press and so on. The crazy thing is that my muscles got larger, I mean very large very quickly where people thoughtI was taking something.

My arms grew big fast where even I was getting nervous about the fast results. My point is that yes people everywhere I went constanlty commented on my size, yet I never wanted people to know how weak I actually was. When people needed help moving something big and heavy they would call me for help thinking it would be a piece of cake for me.

In reality I had so much trouble that they would have been better off without my help. From a physique stand point yes I looked good, but for the size I had, I was completely useless for helping others move. I say that gaining muscle mass without strength is pointless. Now I have the size and strength to back it up.[/quote]

The problem with this is that it may have very well been a leverage issue on why you were no help with moving things while you still could be fairly strong in the gym. Take a look at some of the strong men competitions throughout history where you have the shorter armed guys trying to lift the stones compared to the taller guys with the longer arms. Leverage becomes a real big factor…

This guy is so fucking full of shit.

I would like to know if people who lift do it just to build muscle for show or do it to help them in real life situations.

Both.

I have NEVER, met any of these so called people who are big, ripped, jacked, hyooge, etc but whom are weak. OP your view of a big guy is obviously very skewed if you think they are jacked and they cant bench 225.

The scenario you are saying you encounter does not exist. Actual bodybuilders are not weak, they are big because they are lifting big weights! This topic is so fucking stupid and I don’t understand why people keep bringing it up.

“Bodybuilders don’t avoid getting stronger. It would be impossible to get bigger if you didn’t get stronger.”- QFT

I just had the distinct pleasure of reading a bevy of Jimmy Lee’s posts. Sorry I missed out on all of the fun…

Would now be a good time to nominate Jimmy for the Village Idiot Award?

Discredited right there (the OP)

Where in real life does a 500 lb deadlift, or 315 bench press come into play? Does there have to be a dual purpose for everything?

In my real life, I want to be a bodybuilder, so I lift like one. Whatever that means.

lol

Awesome Iron Dwarf, that says it all.

Can i ask, why do you start so many threads ??

I mean asking questions is good in all, but erm you have made like 20 threads last day or so ?

I am just giving the public what they want. If people do like my threads then they should not post responses to them.

Well that’s a lie.

Quite apparently, actually.

But am i not a member of that “public” ??

Maybe you have come from bb.com but posting apparently useless threads of which no one seems to be taking seriously is hardly serving the general population of the BODYBUILDING forum… go to the “Get a Life” section, have a whale of a time there.

But, i rather like this section i LIKE talking about bodybuilding and all related topics and your threads are creating a nuisance… now please kindly desist from further threads untill you feel the need to ask for proper help… not increasing your post count.

Man, if I was a bodybuilder and I could get huge lifting 10lb weights all day I would.

I remember back before I started lifting I used to play basketball at this gm when I was a skinny high school kid. The bodybuilders would come in for a run after lifting and I could move them around like feathers and these guys were pretty big. I remember saying to myself “damn they look stronger than really are”. At that moment I realized big doesn’t mean strong.

at that moment you should have realised they didn’t want to hurt a skinny highschool kid.

Op
I know what you are talking about bro.
Like one time, a long time ago I was thinking man if I could do like a thousand reps with a light weight. Than I would be like swole up huge. So I got these leg weights and strapped them on for like two weeks. And my legs were getting bigger from all the reps when I would just be walking with them leg weights.

I had to quit though cause I couldn’t get my legs in my pants anymore. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone though cause it didn’t last. After I quit wearing the leg weights my legs went right back to being sticks in like two weeks.
