Ready to Bulk? Physique Advice

Hello, been lifting and eating seriously for roughly a year and a half. I’m 20, and 6’ 172ish lbs. Looking to see if others think I’m primed to begin bulking, the best way they feel to go about that for my frame, and any areas they feel may need extra attention. Not necessarily looking to compete, but build a really strong physique and body!! Hope to hear from y’all, thanks!

Whatever you’re doing is working well for you. I would suggest staying the course.

I’m really not sure what you’re asking here, so I’ll respond in a very general way and hope I give you what you want, lol.

Your physique looks balanced and aesthetically pleasing. One photo with pretty favorable lighting doesn’t really tell us the whole story, but it looks like you’ve done well, considering you’ve barely spent any time lifting.

Whatever you’re doing in the gym seems to be working. So keep doing whatever it is that got you to this point, until you really stall. When that happens, come back here with details of the programs you’ve run to that point, and how/what you stalled on.

As to how you should bulk: I recommend not adding excessive amounts of fat. You can really stay close to as lean as you are now while continuing to add muscle. Just never work at a huge calorie surplus. This is really a personal choice, so you can do whatever you want, but if I were you, I’d try to maintain that lean physique, as it’s certainly something enviable to most people. The ‘bulk and cut’ mentality is poor, in my opinion. Steady, gradual muscular gains, while staying lean year-round, is where it’s at. A much better lifestyle overall.

I appreciate it! Yes I was general just to see what initial thoughts were. In terms of bulking I just wanted to know if my ideas were on the right track.

These are some flexed shots from around the same time as the picture above.

What program were you thinking of running in your bulking period?

So now I want to go on holiday and go on a cut.

You look great. Just work at progressing in the gym and eating just enough to slowly make the scale move upwards, not much need in getting soft and ruining the current look you have. If you was that lean but lacked muscle and looked terrible it would be a different story.

I’m using a MAPS program by the guys called MindPump… not sure if they are talked about on here. Basically a three day a week whole body at 8-12 reps with inbetween days for focusing on specific body parts. It’s periodized to include more volume every three to four weeks

Thanks!

dude you’re really, really lean. That’s impressive for someone not trying to get on stage right now. Are you pretty strict with diet?
