RDS: Who the Hell Are You?

yo mate, so have you had back problems as well? You’ve clearly built a good physique regardless; those striations in your chest are gnarly.

Honestly, the only reason I haven’t mentioned beans or legumes is that I eat them so rarely it didn’t make sense to include them in a “typical” day of eating. I don’t have any problem digesting them so I don’t deliberately exclude them, I just don’t use them in cooking all that much.

my only food intolerance is protein shakes. Not the most convenient thing for a physique enthusiast!

Ohh, and what do you do IRL, like career wise.

Maybe give us an example of an average day of eating as well, if ya don’t mind
No real goals as such, I see lifting as a compliment to my life; a way of enhancing it. It’ll never be the main focus.

I’ve toyed with the idea of competing in physique. I think genetically I have some good qualities like small joints and ok muscle bellies, but I have a very small frame with narrow clavicles and quite high lat insertions so it’s hard to get a good X shape. I would choose physique over bodybuilding as I have no real desire to ever be a mass monster, and at 5’ 11" I’d have to gain a lot more size than I really want to to be competitive.

I also have a pretty gnarly scar from an appendectomy that has ruined the symmetry in my abs and obliques. It’s like five times the size an appendectomy scar usually is, no idea why. Chicks dig scars, but I’m not so sure about physique contest judges.

Really though I still think I might, just to see if I have the discipline.

I’m just finishing my degree in psychology (I dropped out of uni first time around and went back to finish what I started), and I intend to get qualified as a counsellor and a personal trainer after working for a while to pay off some of my debts.

A typical day of eating on a training day looks like:

-breakfast - black coffee
-training - 20g BCAA, 20g Glutamine
-meal 1 - usually eggs, either a ton of scrambled eggs or cooked in an omelette with sausage or something (about 50g protein)
-meal 2 - meat, veg and carbs (40 - 60g of protein); carbs is rice 90% of the time but occasionally pasta. Meat and veg can be anything.
-meal 3 - meat and veg (no carbs usually, 40 - 60g of protein)

I also snack on fruits, nuts and berries after dinner, and if my protein is a little light for the day I’ll eat a protein bar or increase the amount of protein in my final meal. It gets a little rough sometimes if I’ve been really slack and end up having to get like 100g of protein in one go! I never really get less than 170g of protein in a day.

On a non-training day there’d be an extra solid meal in there, and I break my fast slightly earlier on those days but still keep carbs til my last meal or two.

I thought it would be hard to get my protein all from solid food but it’s really not that bad as long as you’re a good cook. It’s not even all that much more expensive if you’re savvy with your shopping.
Good shit broseph.

So anyway we will ever get pic of ya man? Super duper homo

Gotcha. My avi was when I started prepping for a physique show over a year ago. I got the effin flu 2 weeks out. Haven’t tried again since then. One day before I’m 40.

The beans and brown rice mixture has really helped me with taking in more carbs while leaning out some. The fiber content I guess. Protein shakes are a no go unless I use a gemma pea protein. Great amino profile.

The back issues I had were mostly SI joint and sciatica. The only disk stuff I deal with is degenerative things that are hereditary. Deads have actually helped my back a ton. If I could travel back in time and give the 27 yo me some advice it would be this, “Stretch, pre-hab, stretch some more. Ignoring the first sign of discomfort is a mistake and flat bench is overrated you tool!” haha

Now that you are following JM’s protocols are you geared more towards aesthetics or strength? I know everyone would like to say both, but most times they are fooling themselves.

heh, well I really don’t like the idea of putting photos of myself online. That doesn’t just apply to here, I don’t have a facebook or anything.

But what I plan to do is bulk up a bit more, then hire Shelby to do my cut. It’ll probably be next summer.

So when that happens, I’ll make a thread about it complete with photos of my ugly ass.

I can understand that. But there are ways to, ya know, keep your identity under wraps and still show physique pics. But whatever is comfortable for you brother!

So if you hire Shelby for a cut, will it just be for the hell of it, or too maybe consider the Physique show?

that sucks about the flu, you look like you were doing everything right otherwise. Shit happens I guess.

I’ve considered pea protein and to be honest I think I might take the plunge. I think you’ve got me sold on the idea my man! If it tastes like shit though I’m coming after you.

I know a few folk that have said deads helped their back, unfortunately I think I just did them so badly for so long that I’ll never be able to do them again. So it goes, I can still train hip extension with box squats so it’s not all bad.

I would definitely give the same advice to the teenage me, but I was such an obnoxious little pissant I’d have just told my future self to fuck off.

JM’s protocols are definitely for size, and for the attention to taking care of my joints. I chased poundages for years and did ok with my strength (didn’t even really look like I lifted weights though), but I made such a mess of my back and shoulders I don’t think I could ever go back. I love how using JM’s techniques I can trash my chest with 30k dumbells.

what’s your own training like?

it’s not even really my identity that’s the issue, I’ve been honest about where I work on here so if someone wanted to track me down they easily could (Chong Lord Uno already has, lol), it’s just the actual act of putting pictures of myself online that I’m weird about. I’ve always been weird about pictures. I’ve never even owned a camera.

The cut with Shelby is to see where I’m at. I think everyone should try an extreme cut (like you are doing with Jake - great thread btw) at some point so they can honestly appraise what they’ve done. Once I’ve done the cut, I’ll be able to get honest feedback from Shelby (plus posters on here) as to strengths and weaknesses, and I’ll be able to make a decision about whether or not to do a physique show.

I’ll need another 10lbs at least though before I even consider the cut so I’ve got some bulking to do. Will probably throw myself into that in the autumn.

Exactly. I use alot of the mountaindog stuff. I lift M-F like you, but only because I split quads and hams and like to be in and out in under an hour. I still do some heavy stuff once or twice a month but it is typically only on one exercise that day. I think that shoulders and chest on the same day is the best thing I have ever done. My hips (mainly TFL and trochanter bursitis) are my main issue over the last 3 years. Hip flexion can be tricky

Shelby would be a great investment. He has such great success with getting his clients in shape. I know you don’t count kcals but what do you think you are consuming each day in carbs? and do you refeed?

This is very similar to my daily food intake.

I made a video as I get my skull crushed, daily, by the clients at my gym asking for nutrition advice. Cannot be assed retreading the same advice so I just direct them towards this video. Please don’t hate guys

splitting quads and hams is a great way to train, I love that. With my lower body training being so limited these days I just have two leg days, but I’d absolutely train them the way you do if I could.

One of the most important lessons you learn after you’ve been training a while is what you need to do to keep your body happy. I want to be training for a good few years yet!

I think of carbs as servings, not really grams. Protein is easy to work out grams of because you just look at how much the pack weighs, but carbs are a little harder as they come in big bags. I will generally fill a glass with rice and the mrs and I share it with our dinner, although obviously I eat slightly more. When I try and bulk more aggressively I add more servings, and when I’m focusing more on recomp I remove servings.

I do refeed once a week, usually on a Sunday, and it takes the form of a cheat day. I used to have 2 cheat days a week but the mrs started to complain she was getting fat (she’s not, but you know what girls are like). I honestly don’t think I even really need to refeed, and it’s as much just to give myself some dietary freedom than it is to refill carb stores.

I am of the opinion that people way overeat carbs, and that they’d do much better getting the calories from fat. I fully buy in to the paleo idea that you should get the vast majority of your calories from fats, and that no one really needs more than a couple of servings of carbs a day. I’m a bit of a hippy when it comes to nutrition.

Pea protein, don’t do it maaaaaan!!! lol

I bought some of that a couple of years ago when WPC was going through me like a murky waterfall. I can say without any hesitation it is the worst tasting thing that I have ever put in my mouth (apart from when my ex used to cover her boobs in anti-perspirant)

aw man way to piss on my bonfire. I just found it really cheap online and it’s unflavoured, so no doubt that’ll be the worst of the worst.

On a side note: how sweaty were that chick’s tits?

Exactly the question I asked her. Why the fuck are you putting deodorant on your breasticles?

Do they sweat abnormally?

Apparently it made them ‘smell nice’

Which made me wonder how bad they smell normally.

Strange girl

Also re: Pea protein. The one I got was chocolate flavoured Phyto protein. It tasted exactly like you would imagine, blended peas and chocolate. Not pleasant.

Maybe the unflavoured stuff will be better as you won’t get that weird chocolate pea thing going on.

Pea protein might not taste good, but ever tried egg protein? Pea tastes awesome in comparison.

As someone who’s allergic to both milk and soy I personally go with rice protein, then some EAAs to help with the amino acid profile.

U tried beef protein? Carnnivor ‘ala’ kai greene. I went through a tub of this, tastes more like a soft drink kinda like shitty kids bubble gum drinks but its a nice changed from creamy whey based drinks, packed with creatine and aminos.

But it made my shit green if i had more than 2 scoops a day.

If i had more than 4 scoops a day i had the atomic green shits from hell.

BTW Guys where the fucks the Haggis?

hmmm I still think I’ll give it a try, it can’t be too much worse than the absolutely horrible BCAAs I’m using just now.
rds63799 wrote:

The place that I was buying it from had the option to double flavor it. It grew on me and I began to crave it actually. Make sure it is non GMO. Rice or egg white are good too. Then again, I also have done just bcaa before and after in lieu of the protein. That worked very well.

I would be interested to see what a weeks routine looks like. You care to post what you did last week? Exercises, sets, and reps

Ya rds I agree with Mateus,I’ve had some vanilla rice protein as well and it was pretty good stuff.I think it was jarrow brand or sun warrior, can’t remember for sure though.
