Mme Blue?

Ladies! I’m sorry I’ve been away and neglecting the compound. Truth be told, I’ve been very, very lame: I managed to strain/slightly tear my left calf during the last full-body workout I posted - what I thought was DOMS was a little more serious, as the lovely bruise my calf has been sporting until very recently demonstrated. So I kept the workouts light and more cardio-heavy (ugh).

Once that was feeling better, I got into the gym for some 5/3/1 squats, then the following morning I tore my thumb open on a can of coffee. I figured, if the can opener isn’t doing the job, my hand is the next best option. I may be book-smart, but common sense is not my strong suit. :stuck_out_tongue:

So that kept me away from the heavy lifting a little longer. My ‘workouts’ have been so pathetic, and sporadic, I didn’t feel them worth posting.

On a positive note, I had some nice vacation time in Niagara Falls at the end of last week, and tomorrow is Canada Day, so lots of fun stuff happening.

And I got back to the heavy lifting Monday night:

Squats - worked up to 145 for 5; I felt really weak in these.

Sumo Deadlift - just for the hell of it; worked up to 245 for a single, failed at 255 twice.

1-leg lying ham curls - sets of 6

About to head into the gym for some light benching tonight. I just realized it’s the week before ‘flo’s’ visit, so I really shouldn’t be maxing out on anything.

Rachelle, that sucks about the injuries! Bad-ass thumb picture, though, with all those stitches hanging out.

Great to see you back here, and have a great workout tonight.

P.S. If ever someday I get 245 for single sumo deadlift, there will be much rejoicing. That is good, solid weight especially after a lay-off.

BLUE!!! i am so sorry about your cluster of bad luck!! :frowning:

man!!! that thumb looks painful too :frowning:

you’ll get back to your badass self, a nice break will help heal and rejuvenate you…but man that finger looks sore :frowning:

Hey!! Stick around for awhile, huh?

Jeez, that thumb looks awful! Surprised you can do anything in the gym. At least you kept at it while you were “lame”. Glad to see you back! Nice “light” lifting there for being sidelined! Hope those stitches come out soon!

sorry about all your injuries – but that’s still really solid training.

Yikes! That thumb looks painful!! On the plus side, you have nice long nails (damn you!).

Sorry to hear about your setbacks Blue, but its obvious that you’re doing what you can under the circumstance and you’re actually doing a lot! Good stuff girl. Sounds like the little break is doing you good

so, did you get the coffee can open? i like my coffee with milk, sugar, and a lil blood myself.

which will be easier for u to make next week. (oh shit i know, but i had to!)

glad to hear ur sucking it up, but sad i have to put away the firehose.

and you work out with that thumb? I’d be wrapped in a blankie zonked on something. I know I’m a wuss. Take care of yourself and keep it light for a bit. Wouldn’t want more injuries.

So much for the prostate massage.

If I ever agree to be in another weddding party, someone please slap me! I’m part of a greek wedding this coming Saturday, and all the pre-wedding nonsense has been taking up way too much of my time! Got myself in trouble with the man at the bachelorette this past Friday, then had to go to a pre-wedding bbq in ridiculous 40 degree (celsius) heat on Sunday. The rehearsal is Thursday.

The rest of my summer is going to be full of more pre-wedding nonsense, as I agreed to be in two weddings in early September, too. Shoot me.

On a more positive note, I just got accepted to the University of Western Ontario’s School of Dentistry!!! So in addition to the wedding stuff, I need to get myself some money from the bank, and find myself a place to live this fall!

Oh, and the stitches are out!

I did train last Wednesday. I need to start getting back in the groove though! Here’s how it went:

(1a) DB Bench 5x5: 25/35/40/45/50 lbs
(1b) 1-arm DB row 5x5: 25/35/40/45/50 lbs

(2a) DB lateral raise 5x10: 15 lbs
(2b) 1-leg standing calf raise 5x10: unweighted, just trying to get the left calf firing again and healthy.

(3a) DB swing 3x10: 60 lbs
(3b) Push-ups 3x10

Also did a few pull-up/chin-up singles throughout.

Tonight I’m going to head back in, and I hope to get in there Friday too, despite work and all the prep I need to help with for the wedding. My fat ass needs to get back into it, I feel weak, and I’m gettting super soft!

Blue’s back! we totally ditched All pre-wedding non-sense when we got married. My mom was angry at me until I told her, “be happy at least we won’t be getting married bare-feet around a fire with a case of beer”. She was cool with any decision after that.

Yeah for school acceptance! I’d let you play in my mouth any day

and getting supper soft is probably more mental than physical. I get that all the time.

Kimba - Yeah, I thought the pic was pretty bad-ass too. :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for the kind words!

Brute - I think I’ve had my fair share of the bad luck now. I’m hoping my acceptance to school is the start of a cluster of good luck! And I’m also hoping that I haven’t become too much of a weakling after my time away from the iron.

MiM - You betcha.

Green - Thanks! It felt really great to move some decent weight that day.

Alisa - I appreciate the positivity. The training’s been WAY too sporadic, though!

Masch - Love your new avi!! I just had to cut the nails, they were starting to peel and break. Boo. I’m hoping that the break will eventually translate to some big gains once I’m back to more consistent training. I may be being a bit too optimistic, though.

Bear - Of course I got the can open, I don’t back down. The can cut me in retaliation. It was some damn good coffee, though.

N - Believe me, I was a big wuss in the beginning, and as you can see, the ‘working out’ has been pretty lame.

Print - Too bad I’m not left-handed.

N - I think ditching all the crap is a great idea, except I kind of want to ‘repay’ all my dear friends who made me go through it all for them. Ha ha.

I would love to play in your mouth. Open wide, now.

Yikes, just saw the thumb picture - ow.
I had a freak can opening, thumb slicing accident two weeks ago. I was opening a can of tuna using an opener with a plastic handle that I’ve had for years, and the handle just shattered and sliced my thumb in two places. Bled a lot and hurt like a bitch but I didn’t need stitches fortunately. It’s healed completely now - the scars are even starting to go white. Any area with a good blood supply will heal up nicely.

You have my sympathies on the wedding thing. Too much faffing around, not to mention expense. I don’t think I’ll ever tie the knot, but if I did, it’d be something very quick - maybe a drive through in Vegas.

You are at an age where weddings are prevalent. This will pass. I haven’t been to (much less been in) a wedding in recent memory.

Congratulations on dental school! That is really, really great news. I gather you will be moving to go to school? I hope the gym situation will be awesome there. You’ll need to de-stress after all that studying.

Good to see ya…I like your supersetty things…

so are you going to be a Dentist??
