You sir, are a hero.
What are you trying to get down to? Good on you for showing that much fortitude, I dont think I have it in me…just ordered fettuccine Alfredo lol
Matty, I’m trying to get into the 198s, I’d like to walk around at 195.
Mini Meet/Test Day:
Squats: 1st: 315 (good); 2nd : 365 (good); 3rd: 405 (crushed like a bug).
Bench: 1sr: 245 (good); 2nd: 275 (good); 3d: 285 (pass).
Deads: 1st: 365 (good); 2nd 415 (good); 3d 465 (good).
Pancake Refeed: large stack + tons of syrup + sausage + 3 eggs over easy.
Notes: 405 was heavier than I remember, I really thought this would go, but I got crushed. 275 on the bench barely came up. I had hoped to try for 285 but there was no way. Deads felt good, although 465 was a real grinder. Also, 465 is a BW%PR, just over 2.25 x body weight. My best pull ever is 502, but that was at a BW of 242 lbs., which is barely over 2x body weight. It feels to me like the weight loss has really hurt my squat leverages, but it may have actually helped deads. That’s just the way it feels to me.
I am going to take next week off from the gym and deload and maybe go camping or skiing or both and then start a new 5-3-1 cycle the next week.
HIIT: Skied a couple sets then chowed down on steaks, shrimp, copper-river salmon, and a baked potato.
Morning BW 204.8
Wow, seriously impressive weight loss. Internetfistbump.jpg.
Fist bump right back atchya, Novaeer! I feel like I can smell the 198’s.
How many days do you go between refeeds? 7-10 or do you just go more by feel? Just curious.
I was going every 7 to 10 days and basically very low to almost no carbs between refeeds, now I’m going to start hitting more carbs after every leg day, like a full pancake refeed, and a lighter carb meal after an upper or HIIT workout like skiing, with maybe a potato or rice and see if I can keep losing. No carbs on days without without either weights or HIIT.
Yesterday’s HIIT: I got a bug up my ass and bought a new ski Yesturday. I skied two sets on it and the jury’s still out. I am going to try and get a few more on it and I may swap it for another one, but its hard to tell from only two sets.
Last Night: I went to a 25 year reunion last night that was joint-hosted with our cross-town rival high school. It was a little surreal but all-in-all pretty cool. I was more than a little pleased with myself when I stuffed into my size 34 levis without any discomfort. Good times.
So it looks like USAPL used the new IPF weight classes for master’s nationals. One class is 93 Kgs., which is around 205 lbs. I hope this spills into the local meets, its going to be a lot easier for me to maintain 205 than 198.
HIIT: I skied two sets and so far its not looking good for the new stick. Off to sushi to destroy a chef’s choice sashimi platter supposedly “for 4.”
You must have gotten a lot of great compliments at the reunion. Not many guys (or girls) there in 34 inch waist pants. 25 year reunion put you at 43 years old, right? I’ll be 43 soon.
Thanks Steve, yup, 43.
Morning BW. 203.6. I will start a new cycle monday.
That sounds a lot like carb back loading.
Joe, I’ve been reading through a lot of Keifer’s stuff and listened to a few pod casts, and he makes some pretty compelling arguments. I am not sold on everything he says, but I may start implementing some of his carb-cycling principles more when I get sub 200 lbs. I am basically at only nominal carbs right now while I am deloading and the fat is coming off, and if his ideas work for maintenance and strength gains, great, if not, I can scrap them in short order.
Ive been doing alot of reading about this CBL as well, I really want to try it but the idea of fasting in the morning and no carbs before your training seems really tough, I start work at 3am and am in a complete fog for about 90 minutes and thats with coffee and carbs. Im tempted to buy his book but 90 bucks is real steep
Man you are still killing it Jack! Great job!

I went in on it for about 6 weeks. The initial weight loss (and de-bloat) wasn’t bad, but after the initial 10-day prep phase, which is nothing more than your typical VLCD, the weight loss slowed down, a lot. It has been working for some, but it has some shortcomings that really make me question its effectiveness. I’d actually look at his Carb Nite Solution as a better alternative, since it is more of a traditional keto diet with a weekly refeed.
My understanding is that CBL is for muscle gain with minimal fat gains, if any, and “carb night” is for fat loss with minimal muscle lost, but one is for cutting and one is for gaining and that you can adjust to something in the middle depending on how your body responds and your goals. I don’t think I’d use CBL if fat loss was my primary goal. Carb night is basically CBL one day a week as opposed to refeeding every time you hit the gym, at least that is the impression I get without having read the books.
